some of their managers have room-temperature IQs. either that or they're instructed to begin each sentence with, "proctor and gamble is a big, multinational company..."

I tried one of their Global Problem solving exams...kinda unfair for an exam which primarily consists of math problem solving questions to have only around 60 minutes to answer them.

And the good thing is you dont have to waste your time hoping they would give you a call if you make it or not because after the exam, right there and then, they will give you a letter which either says, go ahead for another exam..or thank you but your not qualified.

I mean, if thats how they're picking their candidates....its not my loss.

The test's not that difficult. I got a call from the HR immediately after the test. I did like 2 panel and 1 one-on-one interviews. The interviews and the interviewers were a huge horrible joke, but I just played with them. Three days after, I got another call, and then there was an offer. I didn't like the offer, so I turned it down.

Six years later, even though uninterested to work with them, I took it again, but in a different country, just to know if I could still pass 'corporate' tests. The test was in Spanish, but hey I passed it. I only went to the 1st panel interview, got a call, but didn't pursue it.

Lesson: It's a waste of time, for me at least.

Hay. the P&G experience is depressing for me. I was part of their "special" recruitment process, so they say, wherein the top 10% of the batch are invited to take the test.

I passed the test. The test was not that hard, the only problem is that you're time pressured. Heck! I didn't finish the whole damn thing. Nerds are those who finished them :)

Anyway, they asked me to answer their essay questions and the P&G assessment something (could be found in their website).

After a couple of weeks, they released the names of those invited to the leadership seminar. Sad to say, my name was not there. I recieved an email from them stating that I was not "fit" blah blah blah.

I was just really wondering what their bases were since the top 3 students (AND VERY active with their extra-curriculars activities) of our batch didn't make it in the leadership seminar while those others (with honors) but not active with their EAs were invited in the leadership seminar.

Hay...

I won't attempt to sourgrape or anything. Hey, after all, they have the right to pick their potential employees.

I took the exam, quite a breeze for me TBH. I passed and I was even invited to attend a one-day activity that is usually reserved for the top 10% of the graduating class (UP Eng'g). The activity was the usual marketing blah blah blah to entice those invited to pursue their application.

After that, I filled-out their application form and submitted my TCG. Boy, I'm not surprised at all when I received their rejection letter. Nine years ka ba naman eh :)

I have an acquaintance that works there and she basically told me that the pay and perks are really really good, but P&G will make sure that every peso they pay to their employees will be worth it.

I still remember that I got a call after the test (I took it in the AM, and got the results around 3 PM). I was told to come back for the first interview, that was set 2 days after the test. I did 2 interviews on the same day and was asked again to come back the following day for the final interview. Three days after, they called again, telling me to turn up in their office. I even thought that it was for another interview, but it was already an offer. I was not that happy with the offer (that time I already got a handsome offer from a foreign bank, which was way better).

You want me to continue the story about my passing the PST in another country?

ok lang naman test nila.

i took the test for the Student's Excellence Award.

I was one of the top ten in our university.

They interviewed us para makuha yung top ten sa buong Pinas(well there are only 4 universities na kasali, UP, UST, Ateneo and DLSU)

Then nagkaroon ng awards night.

I got in the top 11! 2 lang kaming nakuha sa UST, tag 3 sa UP ateneo and DLSU

ang prize namin is 20 k.

kaya lang wala na silang IT dept.

Nag a outsource na lang sila sa HP!

You apply online. They send you a personality test, and if they like your resume and results of the personality test, they will invite you in for an exam. If you pass the exam, you have two more rounds of interviews.

I heard the test is not that hard. Timing and pacing are the most important keys to passing the exam because friends have told me that the subject matter is basically high school math and simple reading comprehension at the SAT level. Many have told me that they failed the exam simply because they did not pace themsleves and ran out of time...not because the subject matter was hard. I know one really smart guy who did not bring a watch, took his time, answered all his attempted questions correctly but failed because he took his sweet time and did not answer alot of questions int he end. Lesson is: you need to be a good standardized test taker.

Once you get in, I hear that they work you hard. However, if marketing is your niche, there is no better place to start out your training...just like how Citibank is the ideal training ground for young and ambitious finance dorks. You will learn alot and will be able to apply it to your own company or another multinational.

Is the test only for entry-level applicants or fresh graduates? Or pati na applicants for managerial positions?

XFactor
Jul 6, 2006, 05:26 AM
I'm not sure if they accept applicants for managerial positions. One of the things they stressed out in their leadership forum is that they are a "promote-from-within" company, that is, the managers, directors, etc. all started out as entry-level applicants.

So, if you're coming in to PnG and despite your being a manager in your previous job, your position is probably the same as what fresh grads would have.

There's no entrance exam for pro-hires. I applied here 3 yrs ago and what I did is fill out the essay questionnares they emailed me. From there, I had two interviews before the job offer. Unlucky me though coz I already accepted another offer and was working for that other company before they called for the job offer. I don't know if they hire for managerial positions though.

I have a friend who used to be one of the top Filipino expats for P&G. He knows the company, recruitment process, and culture very well.

According to him, P&G usually likes to promote from within the firm. He started in P&G straight out of college and never took his MBA. He said that P&G has such an excellent training programe that he simply climbed the corporate ladder all the way to the top...after 2 years, he was doing the same work MBA grad hires were doing in the brand management group. IN fact, what they teach you in marketing in b-school might have probably been developed by P&G..P&G is considered the pioneer of brand management in the marketing field.

During his time, each employee is assessed by his senior manager through an intricate evaluation process (kind of like report cards in school). The top 20% get promoted..and the bottom 20% are fired (regardless of who you are in the company). This allows for good performers to really climb the corporate ladder fairly quickly. Kind of cold..so regardless of how cordial and informal P&G likes to porject themselves in recruitment events, in actuality the environment is very cut throat and competitive. He disagrees with that system, but through it, he was able to do well, climb the ladder and work abroad as a senior executive.

Dear Applicant,

We have reviewed your qualifications and test results. We are pleased to inform you that we continue to be interested in you and we are considering your application for further processing.

We have referred your application to your department of choice, whose needs appear to match your qualifications. This apparent match will be explored in greater detail by the department concerned. If the match is positive, the department may then call you for a set of personal interviews.

Is that the thank you for your time email or will they really call me for an interview? with P&G, they like beating around the bush eh! Anyone care to enlighten me on what this actually means? :)

hi guys! share your tips, stories, exams, interview etc. sa Proctor and Gamble. thanks

espedidora
Apr 29, 2007, 03:38 AM
Hi,

It's not Proctor it's Procter :) Here's what I can share. There are two ways to apply.

OFF-LINE

1. You can visit P&G HR at 6750 Ayala. From there, you will need to accomplish the MAF (Management Assessment Form). It's a list of several essay type questions (about 10 I think) that determines how you have handled certain challenging situations in the past (e.g. what was the most difficult decision you ever made and what led you to that decision, cite a situation where you have convinced others into agreeing into an opinion that you have, others) or how have you have contibuted back to the community. This is not time bound, take your time to answer this.

2. Then every Wednesday, there is a regular weekly exam that they conduct and this is an hour exam that is under time pressure. I believe this is the same exam given to all P&G applicants all around the world and this is very regularly updated. There is almost no room for miscalculations since each problem requires complex analysis before you can come up with the answers. This is the exam where very few people make it. TIP: Practice a lot on complex problem solving. Be focused. Sleep and be well rested. Read the questions very carefully and if you can make sure you will understand it in one pass, please do. Each second counts. Don't panic.

Basically, it's just these two items, the MAF and the one hour exam (unless they have added more) but understand that they will also evaluate how you have performed in school. P&G wants to hire those who have performed not only academically well but those who have also actively participated in school organizations. Sometimes, the extra curricular activities pushes an application if the academics are not top notch for the batch. They want well rounded people who are not only very good in academics but very good in extra curriculars. So if you're still in school, actively participate in school organizations. Below is the actual requirements for the fresh grad they are looking for

Minimum education of BA/BS
Proven success from school or work experience that demonstrates skills in leadership by envisioning, direction setting and enrolling others; thinking/problem solving; creativity & innovation; initiative & follow-through; communication; and priority setting.
Success in school may be defined as being among the top graduates of his/her respective batch (top 10-15%ile of graduating batch)
Leadership is defined experience in leading school / student / non-school organizations (ie has had leadership positions in the past — President / Vice-Pres / Asst. Vice-Pres positions)

ON-LINE

You first need to create a profile by visiting this site -> http://www.pg.com/jobs/sectionmain.jhtml

From this site, you can filter the list of jobs for the country you are applying for.

Then you answer a series of management attitude and behavior questions. There are about 80 questions and while there are no right or wrong answers as these are merely behavior determining questions, they are time bound.

This test once accomplished already determines if you will make it to the next level because you will get an email to the address you provided during registration. From here, I believe you now take the one hour time pressured exam I explained earlier.

If you pass the MAF and the exam, you will be notified via phone that you made it and that you're being scheduled for a panel interview. I remember questions asked on school projects, thesis, school organization activities and explanations on grades where you did not excel. There were also situational questions to determine how you will react given certain real world work situations.

Hope what I have shared with you helps.

After the interview is of course the well awaited call for the job offer.

The compensation package is one of the best if not considered the best locally and globally. Consistently always nominated to be one of the best companies to work for. Some of the famous people in the world are ex P&Ger. Steve Balmer, the Microsoft CEO started his career in P&G and so are certain US Senators. Locally, **** Gordon is a former P&Ger. P&G really takes very good care of their employees. Travel opportunities abound. At a given time, almost 60 to 80% of the employees are on business trips everywhere that's why P&G has a hotelling system when it comes to workareas. They even send your children to school and pay for their school as well as your accomodations if you become an expat and there are lots of opportunites for that too. A lot of Filipinos have been sent to Singapore as expats. But the best thing is working with very competitive people because in the end, it's all about feeling good about your work and P&G can definitely give you that.

By the way, I used to be from P&G that's why I know this.

Good Luck! *okay*
