Regarding multiple IP addresses and bandwidth limits: I thought you're connected to the ISP using only one IP address. If you share that connection in a lan, I don't think they can detect it. There will be unusual high bandwidth usage to your port but I don't think they can detect if the request is coming from several machines in a lan. Or can they?

They sometimes have intermittent connections (around the afternoon) pero not that long, mga 1minute thing *** naman.

And they have this rebate promo of a P500 off on your bill for every 24hr period that you dont have a dsl connection.

you have to go to the office, present a number that will be given to you by the DSL team. and before you can avail of the printer, you must buy ink from them. am still thinking if i should get one. not sure if its transferrable and not sure either about what models they have.

about the printer, i searched the web and found out that you can buy the same Lexmark model for as low as $30, including the ink.

i didn't bother to claim the printer either.

This is my connection speed at this very moment, though this is by no means my usual speed (often times it's just around 275-305 kbps). This is in fact the fastest I've been on since subscribing about 5 weeks ago. Im on the P1995 a month plan and the advertised speed is 384 kbps maximum. The slowness might be attributed to my set-up at home. In one PLDT line, I have 4 extension phones hooked up, plus the DSL. :D I'm not really sure if this affects the speed tho.

If you avail of the promo (I'm not sure if it's still on), there are no connection charges and all the hardware is supplied except the LAN card which you have to have in your PC beforehand. The monthly charges appear in your phone bill so there is no cash out at installation. There is a free 8 day trial period in selected areas. There is a "free" printer which you can only have if you buy an ink cartridge at P900+ at least. Yep, it's a freaking racket.

my computer hung and when i rebooted, the screen resembled that of a screen in Emergency Mode.

i ran the anti-virus and found none, but it is obvious that the quality of screen resolution is quite low now compared to before. pictures are very murky and the tendency to hang from time to time remains. several re-boots later, my wallpaper still looks like that of a screen in Emergency Mode.

i've called MyDSL, but they won't help me, saying that they're only concerned with troubleshooting connections and checking email. they suggested downloading a different anti-virus program.

my current one is AVG.

Anybody else having this problem?

PLDT has a new number to call for myDSL complaints -- 172375. But I've been on hold for most part of the morning and there's no one answering the freaking line.

here's what i find useful. If you have that black speedtouch modem with the three lights (power, network, @), and the @ light starts blinking, just disconnect the phone line from the modem, (turn modem off if you want to), then just leave it alone for about 5 mins.

Plug the phone line back into the modem, and the @ should stabilize :D

I think the processor or RAM of your computer will not affect the speed of your download. I'm using this plan now, I used to have a cable modem(MyDestiny). This plan is way better than what I used to have! The speed of your download depends on where you are downloading the file. The usual speed I'm getting is like 50KBps!

i got fed up with their service a month ago since i had trouble browsing. it had something to do with their DNS since I couldn't access Yahoo or Google but only those sites that I knew the IP addresses.

After repeated calls to their hotline and 3 promises to send a technician over--all in the period of 7 days - I sent them a holy hell email. I addressed it to the following email addresses: south@pldt.com.ph, customercare@pldtdsl.net, mydsl@pldt.com.ph

For good measure, I bcc'd it to the consumer welfare columnist of the Inquirer.

Ayun, that same day, I got a call from the head of the dept in my area. For the next two days, PLDT linemen were knocking on my door one after the other! :evil_lol:

And in our bill for this month, they gave me a P500 rebate for downtime. I found the P500 a bit too low <Dapat 1500 cause I couldn't surf for 2 weeks!>, pero ok na rin. I got my point and I let them know that I'm not letting them get away with their procrastination and lousy service!

I'm from the south (Las Piņas area); I've been having the same problems since December (dropped connections, inability to connect for long periods of time, even our phone line loses its dial tone). DSL techs have been coming to my house every other week, doing all sorts of things. I called them early this month, with the hopes of finally resolving the issue. Not one, not two, but three PLDT techs came in yesterday and re-wired the whole thing (even the phone line). Hopefully, this will be the end of my troubles.

Here's a tip: everytime you call their 172-375 hotline, ask for a supervisor immediately to get the problem resolved. If you talk to Tier 1 agents, all they will say is "follow up ko na lang sir" or "schedule ko na lang for repair sir".

Thanks for the tips pepperprone and neth_row.

I managed to contact 172375 after 3 days of holding the line anywhere from 20-49 minutes (using the speakerphones at the office)then just finally giving up. I learned from the people at '173' that all DSL calls nationwide are handled by 172375 centralized. They're a new operation, holding offices at PLDT in Strata Building here in Ortigas. Anyway, they operate 24/7 so the best time to call is late at night or early morning. Or if you work near Strata, just walk on over and give them a piece of your mind in person.

I spoke to their "Live Agents" who were accommodating and easy enough to deal with. As for their being helpful, that's another matter. They require you to be in front of your computer and instruct you to reinstall everything from the CD. If that doesn't work, they'll ask you to hang up while they ping your modem. In my case, they called back and said the ping was successful so everything was ok from their end. Apparently, their competence ends there because they said they now they had to hand over my case to PLDT engineers in our area who will come over personally.

The next day, we did get a call from the local PLDT advising us that they will check my PC and the lines. That was three days ago, they never came.

I retrieved the local PLDT number from my phone's caller ID and called them this morning. They now say the problem is with the external circuits or cards or whatever in our area so there is actually no need for them to come to my house. They'll just advise me if the problem is fixed. When? "Baka ho today o kaya bukas."

Yeah, right. I won't be holding my breath. But now that I have a contact number direct to their homebase, I'll be sure to give them at least a couple of calls a day to pester them and make sure they give me a refund for all this down time -- assuming they manage to hook my PC up again.

Abangan...

Bits and bytes are a measurement of electronic information. A byte is always 8 bits. Communications speeds are usually measured in bits per second while many computer operations are measured in bytes per second. A "56k" modem is 56 kilobits and a "2m" DSL connection is 2 megabits per second. "128MB" of RAM is 128 megabytes. Ideally when abbreviations are used, b means bits and B means bytes. Baud rate is another measure of transmission speed and is the number of actual signals sent per second. At one time it was equal to the bits per second, but modern technology allows us to send more than one bit per electric signal.

To those who are confuse...

To clarify:

Kbps = Kilobits per second = Kb/s connection speed

KBps = Kilobytes per second = KB/s download speed

Just when I thought my PLDT DSL was finally working and starting to reach it's advertised speed of 384, I learn that it's only because the new benchmark is in fact 512. Sure, it's faster -- which should make me happy, but in fact I just feel more frustrated knowing that my speed is now farther off the the target than it was before. The paradox of the upgraded bandwidth.

The DSL costs 1995 so you just add this to your usual phone bill. Yep, you still have to pay for your phone service and all charges on long distance and celfone calls made from your phone.

You can check if you have an ethernet card installed by going to left-clicking the My Computer icon on your desktop > Properties > Device Manager and under "Network Adapters" see if you find an ethernet adapter. Tama ba?

Mikoid
Apr 30, 2005, 05:15 AM
With respect to PLDT pricing compared to US or UK-based DSL providers, I think the costs of bandwidth abroad are much lower even on the telco level. Which is why they can pass the savings to the consumers.

In our case, PLDT still has to link up with some kind of global Internet backbone, and this is an operational cost which then gets passed onto its subscribers. Which is why we pay considerably more per byte than our first-world counterparts.

Can an ISP even do that? I mean is it technically possible to block just BT and allow all other data in and out?

Anyway, I'm downloading something right now by BT. I'm on plan 1995 also. Maybe you have an old torrent with few or no seeders.

Try this torrent. (http://www.mininova.org/tor/3322)

I'm pretty sure I'm being restricted. I can assure the torrent files had more seeds than peers and I tested plenty of them from different trackers that I regularly use. I was able to connect to the tracker but the seeds/peers keep getting disconnected every few seconds after being connected and my download speed fluctuates widely and average at only 1 kb/s because of that. I'm using Azureus.

MY area is only recently activated. I do not know if it has something to do with their new promo which upgraded the bandwidth from 384 kbps to 512 kbps for Plan 1995 but in return have to use it behind their firewall?

I was disappointed though. However I will call them again and have my DSL restored for the last time to see if they have corrected and removed the firewall. Last time their supervisor came to check out the problem but could not explain why except hinting that I should get the business package and so I cancelled the service.

Nightmare_Beta
May 25, 2005, 03:09 PM
Jeck, are you using Azureus 2.3? If you are then...... I think there's a problem.

I've read somewhere that they're not letting people who use azureus to connect to others because azureus has this feature that interferes with the tracker's ability to collect accurate statistics, as well as affects non-azureus running peers by not allowing the tracker to properly distribute pieces, not sure if that's the case with you though

Jeck
May 25, 2005, 07:10 PM
Yes, it's Azureus 2.3.0.0 on both PC but different DSL providers. Cannot connect on MyDSL but not on SkyDSL.

Karasu
May 25, 2005, 08:07 PM
Try disabling 'Decentralized Tracking'. Just uncheck it, and then see if it works.

Go to Tools, Options, then Connection....

^^ this is what Nightmare_Beta probably means...but it depends on where you're leeching the file though. Some sources are pretty strict about this, some don't really care...yet.

Router, you say? Maybe you need to forward the ports needed for bittorrent. Bittorrent typically uses ports 6881-6889.

Here is a tutorial for tweaking NAT settings for routers:

Omigosh! Its 1.4.2_05 while my other PC connected to SkyDSL is 1.5.0 Hope that was the culprit. I'm going to transfer SkyDSL to my other PC to verify out. Jeck
May 26, 2005, 01:23 PM

May 26, 2005, 01:47 PM
Jeck, can you tell us what kind of "router" they gave you? Which brand/model is it? How does it connect to your PC? Via USB or Ethernet cable? Is there a way to manage the device, such as a web-based interface or a proprietary application?

It would be interesting to know what's really happening. I wonder what kind of other traffic is being limited -- VoIP, SIP, online gaming, etc.

Usually, for Bittorrent to work flawlessly behind routers, you'd just enable static NAT + port forwarding (or DMZ if its supported). Most people try to avoid using the default 6881-6889 ports these days.

Jeck
May 26, 2005, 02:23 PM
I am not 100% sure but I think its SpeedTouch 510. Haven't try to change settings yet but you are supplied with user_id and password which I don't know for what use.

Yes, I'm using ICS with my other PC as router and I'm worried about that router/modem.

Silent_Typer
May 26, 2005, 11:52 PM
Maybe the username and password is used for changing the settings? I think it usually is the case.

Try running ipconfig in the command prompt. Take note of the first two numbers of the ip address that comes up (ex. 192.168.x.x) and go to your browser. In the address bar, type the first two numbers with 1 and 1 as the last two numbers (ex. 192.168.1.1).

A window *should* come up asking for the username and password. Try it and see if you can change the settings.

I can't be wrong with what the CSR mentioned because I verified it with her. She mentioned that the prices were good for 6 months only. I think they're opening a new line -- 384kbps. Also, for 512kbps, it's available for 1499 for 6 months and revert back to 1995. I'll go to the PLDT Business Center here in Makati later for REAL verification.

kinabitan na ko ng ganitong plan. i applied last fri and the csr said that my application will take 5 working days. next day, saturday, andiyan na yung pldt to connect my dsl. connecting it was fast since it uses the phone line lang. the problem was in my username and password. in my previous post, i mentioned that some of the csr's were not aware of this plan, it was the same with the pldt dsl technician. he did not notice my plan until i mentioned it to him and he said it was his first time to connect someone with that plan. he was also wondering why they were not informed of this new plan. anyway, when he asked for my username and password (which was supposed to be sent to me through sms) i have yet to receive it. he tried out the connection with their password and it worked fine with speeds up to 475kbps. he called a number to ask for my username and password and after the longest time waiting he was able to connect and get it. turned out my username and password was not yet registered on their servers. anyway, it worked but i was not able to browse the internet. he called again but decided to give up (malapit na kasing mag-5pm) after waiting for a while. come sunday, he told me the username and password did not work because the Plan 999 profile was not yet registered with their system, they did not even know about it yet. they were yet to make the profile. on monday, pldt came again but i was out of the house. they checked my cpu and told my dad that ok na lahat. when i came home set up na yung connection with my username and password and yung speed is only 180kbps. ok pa rin sa akin kasi i came from dial-up. hope this helps you all...

PLDT had an ad for dsl, plan999, meaning Php999/month up to 128kbps.

anyway, went to PLDT and they asked, "san mo nakuha 'to?" they had to fax the ad to their main office pa to confirm na meron nga. haven't signed up yet, but they were offering the P1499 nalang daw, e i want the Php999 lang (kuripot ba, hahah). my friend na nag OJT for PLDT did say na meron naman.

It's 256kbps.

The PLDT people came today and set it up. Since I'm in work, I haven't really tested it yet. But, I'll comment on it later when I get home.

Yea 2 year lock in period, pero I'm not sure how much you pay for the 2nd year. maybe rychu can answer that?

Three things come up:

1. Spyware. have you done a spyware scan lately?
2. Contention. One of the downsides of broadband is contention. Your exchange might be congested. Does it happen often? Everybody in your area might be using a bandwidth-hungry app like P2P, torrent, etc...
3. Modem. Ask PLDT tech support regarding your connection...

Verbl Kint
Jun 29, 2005, 03:14 AM
What version of XP? Do you have sp2 installed? If you do, you might want to try "netsh winsock reset" in a DOS prompt then reboot.

If that doesn't work you may wanna try calling PLDT tech support and ask for your port to be reset or test your connection's noise margin (must not be less than 7dB) or maybe they can run a loop test to see if there are possible problems within their network.

You may also want to ask a neighbor who has PLDT DSL if their connection is just as slow as yours.

rychu
Jun 29, 2005, 07:55 AM
yup. nakabit na.

accdg sa business office, it's for the whole contract since they plan to offer a 256kbps at 999, and 384kbps at 1499 eventually. maybe just a test phase at the moment.

i'm just having technical difficulties (can't connect!) and i was trying to call their tech support with no avail. their tech support sucks big time.

@GilmoreGal, I filled up my application with the additional requirements in the PLDT Makati Business Office on Tuesday afternoon -- 4:50ish. The PLDT people arrived on Thursday but may problem pala sa system nila so they didn't install. They went back yesterday, Tuesday, and installed. Down yata talaga yesterday so I'll see later kung okay yung speed.

i think this was a promo in the sense that the pldt was suppose to be the one to offer it to subscribers by contacting them. when i tried to confirm this before with my friends from pldt, bad trip yung kausap ko dahil nag-leak nga daw and it was supposed to be hush-hush...

ako naman when i saw the small ad in T3 (june issue), i asked my friend who was doing his OJT at pldt. he called me after one day and said na meron nga pero june pa (it was the last week of may when i saw the ad), and that hindi pa na la-launch ng pldt.

when my mom went to pldt (las pinas) to inquire etc, nagulat pa sila when she showed them the ad. they had to fax it to the main office, akala yata fake yung ad. tinanong pa kung san nakuha.

rychu - wow 256kbps na? sa ad it was up to 128kbps lang

just got my pldt 999 plan installed yesterday.. and the rumor according to the pldt teller is that this plan is not supposed to be launched until the near future.. the pldt guyz were contemplating regarding the release of this plan because they think that if this plan was released, the 1995plan and above subscribers might downgrade their plans.. unfortunatley, (fortunately for me) they accidentally launched the plan on their website.. thats why they are allowing people who "saw" the plan to apply.. neway, i suggest u guyz get one.. before the application period ends.. i think its up til the first week of july.. btw below is a speed test of my dsl from TESTMY.NET

I applied for MyDSL Plan 1995 this June and PLDT came to my house and installed it the next day. That was fast! Kayo ba nakuha nyo yung libreng printer nyo sa PLDT office? Ink lang ang babayaran. Ok na yun, tutal kailangan mo rin naman ng ink talaga. :D

My DSL speed currently is 560 kbps. Dalawa yung PC ko sa bahay kaya bumili ako ng Edimax Broadband Router, mura lang P1,700 lang ang bili ko sa Alabang.

Oo nga, nung Friday ng gabi down yung PLDT DSL from 7 PM till 1 AM. Meron daw nasirang data exchange server sabi nila.

Agapito
Jul 3, 2005, 12:07 PM
my normal DL speed is normally around 60 kbps... now it only downloads at around 15-20 kbps... is there any problem with my internet??? checked for virus or spyware already and so far no probs there... or is it PLDT DSL which has the problem... thnx... (PLDT DSL P2500/month Plan)

You are paying P2,500 a month for 60 kbps ???? That's highway robbery if you are expecting that as your normal download speed. Have it checked by a PLDT technician right away, they might replace your DSL modem. As a first-aid, try switching off your modem, let it cool for about 5 minutes then restart it again. Try to reboot your computer as well.

I'm on PLDT MyDSL Plan 1995. Sometimes when my speed goes down to 110 kbps, I simply reboot the modem, and the speed goes back to 560 kbps.

i just talked to a pldt customer service rep about downgrading my plan from 2500 (personal) to the 1995. my one year dsl contract expired last july 02 lang and i wanted to downgrade na since 2500 is a bit painful talaga.

the csr told me that kahit lagpas one year na yung contract, i would still have to pay a downgrade penalty fee of freaking 5,000 pesos!!! grabe! highway robbery talaga! kahit daw 5 years na akong subscriber, i would still have to pay that amount kung gusto ko magpadowngrade.

sabi ko sobrang unfair yun. another option she offered was that i have my current dsl plan disconnected, wait for 2 to 3 weeks while the disconnection notice goes through the proper channels (ho-humm...) and then re-apply for a lower plan, wait for another two weeks for approval. so all in all, if i want to avail of a lower plan, i have to wait ONE month or six weeks para lang makabitan!!!

such greed...i can't comprehend this.

Agapito
Jul 3, 2005, 04:25 PM
Your case is confusing. If you said your contract already ended this July 2, how come you still have PLDT DSL connection? Unless you entered into another contract with PLDT or PLDT automatically renewed your contract at the end of the deadline. The fact that you are using PLDT DSL at this moment, it means you are tied to a usage contract, so downgrading it will definitely incur a penalty on your part.

Pinakita ba sayo nung technician yung laptop niya nung kinabit niya dun yung modem mo? Dapat ipakita sayo para ma-prove na totoo nga yung sinasabi niya. If the modem works fine on his laptop, and not good on your computer, then your modem is fine. Your computer is the one causing the problem.
