Mahirap talaga. Semicon is a very complicated industry. Hindi yan katulad ng sabon o shampoo o biskwit na natatapos sa pag manufacture ang lahat. You have to do some testing and all that after you manufacture the product. And yung ibang natutunan mo eh after 2 years baka magong obsolete na so you have to catch up.
Though di kalakihan ang starting salary sa semicon, may mga kakarampot na perks like long business travel that sometimes takes more than a year though sometimes you really have to wait for your turn.
Sana lang dumami ang R&D work sa mga semicon companies dito sa Pinas.
Hi Kent, taga Amkor ka ba? Kumusta naman?

My previous company was Amkor (P3). I started there as a Cadet Process Engr. But I resigned after one year and was fortunate na matanggap dito sa Singapore (same industry).
Amkor and Intel were among the Semicon companies na competitive ang starting salary. At sobrang dami ng benefits. Free ang shuttle, free ang food sa canteen, may mga quarterly bonus pa. ..so OK na rin.

Oki naman work sa TI.. In terms of benefits naman, I heard na oki naman raw. Allowance lang kasi kami dati since apprentice lang kami. May rice allowance sila, free shuttle rin, and may profit sharing. D nga lang gaano tumatagal un ibang process and product engineer dun.. Either na-pirate sila ng other companies or nde nila kaya un work pressure dun.

^^ Seems like the term "PRESSURE" is already associated to Semicon Industry. Here's what I posted on Semicon Fareast Forum.
Title of the Thread: OK PA BA SA AMKOR PILIPINAS?
Ive been working for this company for more than a year now...and had
experienced this kind of working under pressure, heared shouting voices from my immediate superior...and I was cultured shock in my first few months here which push me harder to find a place with lesser noise, challenges..etc.
Working in Amkor is tough, you really have to work hard.
No one will teach you, do your own job, if it fails take the fallback.
Don't expect other people (even your closest one) will save you from drowning cause its a COVER YOUR *** play.
Fast phasing job, my one day RD is like I am one week behind of my activities.
Even 8 hours of working is insufficient, attending line issues, finishing reports being rushed by your boss not to mention some irritated documentations, responds internal audit etc...
Then eventually realized, the word PRESSURE is already incorporated to AMKOR.
But despite of all, dont let other people notice you that way, always pretend to be cool. I noticed some newcomers also gets pressured, no matter how they are well-experienced from their previous jobs.
"Kung bago ka sa Amkor, hindi pwede ang pagiging humble at soft spoken dahil kakainin ka dito ng buhay", this is what Ive heared from a senior engineer reffering to a newly hired Dept. Man of one department.
But it depends on how you handle work, I envy those people who works
smart, its absolutely better than working hard.
But in fairness to the company, maybe a one year experience is insufficient to judge Amkor this way. To think that there are lot of Tm's who stayed Amkor for like 2 decades.
OK PA BA SA AMKOR? Defenitely, OK na OK pa.Then why are these people leaving?
Because most them were being pirated by other companies, offered much higher salary,
giving much better benefits, and the best of all, ang magiging boss mo ay dati mo
ring kabatak sa Amkor noon hehehe...
Even some companies abroad are now being "Amkorized", thats how they call it. In this game, the burden is on Amkor side. Amkor is being used as a experience ground, a stepping stone...
So as a Yuppie like me, I am fortunate to be part of this company, for I know
future will soon be bright for me...defenitely not by staying my entire life
in this place.
Im just being frank!
*okay*

Working in any company (semicon/IT/whatever) have always two side of the coins. If your boss is on your side, you have good friends and your happy. Thats it. Yun ang basihan.
I have also worked in P3, believe it or not naka "10 yrs" ako dun. Everyday I have to curse my immediate superior. But in the end of the day I know that is all work. Nothing personal.
Now I am working in Singapore. Same everthing minus the pressure. But now the problem is personal. Can you help? As in this one is personal.

How personal can you get?
Im working in a subcon company here in SG. Though everything is the same (actually mas madali). And the pay is much higher. The environment is ok.

Umm.. For me, if it is very personal and I can't take it anymore, I would rather quit and find a new job probably. I think with the years of your experience in the semicon industry, I don't think that you would have a hard time finding a new job...
Hirap kasi mag-work especially pag pine-personal ka na talaga ng boss mo..
