Try Dr. Stiefel's Acne Aid bar. It's effective. You can get it at any Mercury drugstore.

I'd like to piggyback here, if you guys don't mind.

Doc Ira, can you also recommend something for removing dark spots on one's face? My friend plays tennis a lot and I think she may have "burnt" a small part of her face. It's quite conspicuous though. Thanks.

Ira

There's really not much your friend can do with those kinds of scars in the way of ointments or creams, unless he or she is willing to undergo derma- or chemobrasion c/o a dermatologist. She has to let time work to make it fade. She can try Tretinoin, but she won't be able to go out under the sun while she's using that, and it also takes a while for the scar to fade, too.

Thanks, Doc Ira.

No scars actually. The dark spot just looks like a lot of freckles lumped together.

My wife uses Artistry (by Amway). She uses the Artistry stuff every night, and I noticed her skin became so smooth and clean. No bumps. No whatever. No kidding. Even pasersby take a second look at her!

bagyoboy question lang, before ba, hindi flawless ang skin ng wife mo? how long did your wife have to use the product before you noticed some improvements?

Oct 8, 2000, 07:23 PM
Her skin used to be so dry. And when you run you fingers on her face, there were rough areas. After using her stuff consistently for about three months, the results were stunning! Ganda talaga.

You can buy it from any Amway distributor. It comes with a 90-day 100% money back guarantee if you're not satisfied- basta may laman pa.

Keith07: No problemo. I'm speaking purely from my experience with my wife. But since this is a "What's up Doc" forum, maybe Doc Ira can tell us something about what's really inside the more popular facial stuff. What do the manufacturers use to make the stuff?

I bought one set of Artistry and started using it March of of this year. Di pa siya ubos, 8 months na. And my skin "brightened up" :*). I used to apply all of extraderm's facial ek-ek pero naging pale ang complexion ko. Not pale as in lack of hemoglobin but pale like a very unnaturally fair skin - parang bleached and dating   . Bakit ba ganon Doc Ira? Anyways, shifted to Artistry and I got my natural skin tone back. I recommend it. Doc, what's the difference of hydroquinon sa hydroxybenzoate? What do these chemicals do to the skin?

Ira
Oct 14, 2000, 12:20 AM
Guys, I really have no idea about these things which they sell on TV or via direct selling, since DFA does not have any control over these products. Information about their efficacy and safety isn't available.

Xandra88: Hydroxybenzoate is a common makeup preservative. It is also a frequent cause of allergies and has already been banned in some countries. Hydroquinone inhibits melanin production, preventing darkening. It may also be a source of allergies. However, sun exposure will stimulate your pigment cells to work harder to undo the hydroquinone effect, causing irregular patches of pigment.

i use a facial scrub from forever living.. it's kindda expensive but it it can last up to 8 months or more. actually, share kme ng sister ko don.. so if you're the only one who'll use it, mas matagal mo pa sya magagamit.
kse you only have to use it thrice a week, for the other days, you'll just have use the soap you usually use for your face.
then before i sleep, i apply nivea night repair cream to lighten my dark spots, especially my eye bags.. and it really works!!!

keith07:
Clarifying Cleansing Gel - P845
Clarifying Astringent Toner - P750
Clarifying Mosturizer - P900
Or the whole Clarifying System Gift Pack - P2450
There's also the Moisturizing Gift Pack - same price
Plus a lot more stuff.
go to http://www.amway.com.ph then click on Artistry for an online question and answer about your specific needs.

Its a bit expensive. But hey, get only the best for your skin. Don't worry, if you're not satisfied, you can get your money back from Amway. And by the way, the distributor has a 30% profit on it, so ask for a discount.

Because your sister needs to see a dermatologist first to control her acne outbreak (as you've mentioned in your other post) before she starts on preventive measures. Her acne worsened inspite of the soap, not because of it. She will need to take antibiotics, apply steroids, have cysts drained, etc., not just use over-the-counter soaps. No over-the-counter preparation, no matter how strong, is going to help her at this stage.

doc, is it ok na magpa skin peeling? anong risk meron on this type of treatment? what about facial massage? ok din ba ito?

Ira

It's fine as long as you have it done by a dermatologist. Possible risks include allergy and burns. Facial massage is harmless.

Try to use CETAPHIL lotion. It's non-comodogenic so it won't clog your pores. Available at supermarkets and drugstores.

I've always used Ponds Antibac facial wash and it works fine. Pimples are hard to come by and kung meron, isa-isa lang. It made my face really soft--same texture as the skin on my neck. Kasi I know other washes makes your face really dry to touch and flaky. The only drawback about Ponds though is that if you're not hiyang, you'll definitely get a LOT of break outs... same as with other products.

i've been using neutrogena's oil free acne wash. its mild yet has salicylic acid which is good for combatting zits. even my derma recommends it. it recently won a consumer product award (can't remember which one though). its something like P300 per bottle but it lasts a month or two. try it.

Yeah I agree with you na its just about you being hiyang with the product because i myself have been using Ponds antibac since it was first released sa market though from time to time nagkakapimles ako pero isa isa and it helps cleanse your skin. I also use it as my make-up remover and its quite effective din....
