I work in the marketing department of a certain local company where almost everyone else is in the same position/level that I am. The secretaries call everyone "sir" and "ma'am" except ME even though I am a senior project head while a few are just assistant or junior project heads. It really bugs me. Of course, I am young but the age range of our company is generally 20ish to early 30s. What gives? Imagine this scenario one time where the secretary introduced a visitor to all of us:

"Mr. X, this is is Sir A, Sir B, Ma'am C, and greensloth."

It's not even Mr. greensloth. Arghhh....

the secretaries don't seem to respect you. what have you done to earn their respect?

i'm only 1 1/2 months old sa opisina.... the secretaries are 20-22 years old lang. im 23. hehehe... it doesn't help that the company has an unconventional working atmosphere....

Karinyo nila sa iyo yon. They consider you one of them and it feels good to be accepted.

I am called Sir Danny by many people and I wish they didn't. It sounds like I am a Knight of the Round Table. Maybe one day I should come to work with a sword.

Hehe pareho pala tayo ng feeling Sir Kuya Danny. Kapag tinatawag akong sir, sinasabi ko na hindi naman ako knight eh. What I really discourage is people calling me "sir" kahit matagal ko na silang hindi associate.

i call some of my coworkers miss. but i dont call my manager with the prefix. i dont know why.

para kasing pag galang ko yun dun sa mga coworkers ko na mas matanda saken. :D eh si manager, bagets kasi ang dating, so i dont call her that, but i totally respect her.

If people don't call you Sir, or Ma'am, it doesn't mean they don't respect you. Only Pinoys equate respect with those titles.

My employees call me by first name. I insisted on that, and I prefer it that way. I know see a lot of multinationals and modern companies (especially call centers) where calling the boss Ma'am/Sir is considered passe.

instead of asking pexers here who don't even know you, who don't you ask the secretaries directly?

when somebody calls you mam or sir, doesn't mean they respect you but just some sort of formality. my american and even brits bosses here prefered to be called by their first names. they're not comfortable calling them sir.

Much ado about nothing. Unless you put your worth based on how other people address u.

mga pinoy lang naman mahilig mag-sir and ma'am. gusto pa ganun tawag para feeling nila superior sila. very odd. well, this doesn't apply to all naman. karamihan lang.

Hehehe KD parehas tayo ng inisip. Dati sa luma kong company sinasabi sa akin ng secretary "Sir" tapos sinabi ko wag mo akong seren dahil di naman ako Knight. Hehehehe. And mas ok sa akin ang first name.

Dito sa company ko ngayon walang ser ser.. Director ko tinatawag ko by his first name, presidente ganun din.. walang ser mam dito. which is para sa akin mas ok!

maybe they like you than the others. parang mas 'buddy' ***** tingin nila sa yo that's they dont call you sir. calling people by names sometimes give the whole atmosphere a lighter sense.
