LISTEN!

Ask him what's wrong and then listen. Don't judge, don't interrupt. Just plain listen. And try to understand even if it may seem so hard to do so.

they cant afford the cost of a proffessional so they are trying to involved him in a charismatic group.

so long as that group won't judge him or belittle his concerns, it could be a big help
