"IT WOULD seem that the Opus Dei, the Roman Catholic group known for its deep orthodoxy, has become a powerful presence at the country’s premier science high school. Almost one-fourth of the 80 faculty members at the main campus of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) are believed to be members of the religious organization, causing alarm among some alumni and teachers."

They have been known to lurk and "recruit" there since at least the late 70s. Maybe they are more visible now.

^^ Are you from Pisay?
========================================================
I can't see anything wrong with it... as long as it will not affect the work
of the teachers and the education of the students.
However teaching religion should not be implemented.... I agree with that.
I still believe that it is the role of the church and of the parents.

Dr. Miranda, is he the same guy hosting the Chemistry in Action in
NBN4? He is quite good... I want to be his student... hehehe...
I must say that my Gen. Chem teacher in college is also good.
If someone of you joined the CheMaPhy competition held at PLM,
she used to be a judge there.

I am a Pisay alumnus and this is quite alarming. Opus Dei members are traditionalists and I'm scared that the "science" that they'll be teaching the students may be "adulterated." I would be really alarmed if they start teaching Intelligent Design in Pisay.

So as long as they won't force their beliefs on the students, I'm okay with it.

If the things reported in the article are true it is a little bit scary.

It's more scary if they are terrorist bombers. You just need a backbone to say no to them. Their (Opus Dei) influence is overrated anyway (worlwide), less than the Mormons or the Jews.
In another sense, they take advantage of the economic situation in our schools. Who in their right mind will suffer poverty (with their salary) to teach high school kids? Sure there are few of those heroes but it's not as if there is a waiting list of qualified people dying to teach. :(

that could be true in sectarian US and West Europe but not in RCC- influenced RP. The danger of having Opus Dei high school instructors is serious, as it is comparable to having ultra-orthodox religious zealots teaching "holy war" as the final solution to the ills of modern society.
