I just want to ask what other courses/professions other than nursing that are in-demand abroad particularly in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Computer professionals are still in demand abroad. This is quite contradictory to other statements that the profession is dying. You might also want to check each of the government's priority in terms of occupation

automotive mechanic, cook, cosmetology, electrician and most of the trade works like carpentry and plumbing.

computer profession? accountants pwede pa.

yan ang malaking problema sa ating bansa. karamihan gustong maging engineers, doctors, lawyers, congressman, senators. there's nothing wrong with it. what is wrong is wala namang gaanong paglagyan ang mga newly graduates natin ngayon. swerte na kung mapupunta ka sa mga call centers.

an advance degree helps a lot.

it's kind of hard to get an H1 visa in the US, they prefer international students with advance degrees. most companies prefer that anyway but it never fails to try as we have nothing to loose.

Not in the USA. These are becoming popular with Americans as the training and lifestyle is reasonable for them.

I agree that plumbing and auto mechanics will do well in most places (even USA).

For professionals, I also agree that advance degrees are important as they get sponsored easier for visas.

Well, my sister is an OT and she's leaving this September for California. The processing of her papers took less than 1 year. Starting salary niya 28$/hour. Andami daw kasing kelangan na OT kaya mindamadali. Six recruitment agencies kept on calling her since they are in need of a lot of OTs. Merong sa Georgia (2), New Jersey(2), New York and California. Maybe OT is not as in demand as nurses but in demand na din siguro. The problem lang with taking up OT, only 2 schools are recognized by NBCOT (parang sa NCLEX) to take the exam: UP and Perpetual Help Laguna. If an OT from another school would like to take the exam, dapat my masteral na. Yan ang sinabi sakin ng sis ko I think that was imposed this year. Before kasi, pwede daw lahat. Aside from that, 5 years na ang OT ngayon. Ang nursing din according sa PNA, ibabalik ang 5 year curriculum. Another in demand course would be BS Education Major in SPED. Yan naman ang course ng youngest sister ko.:D

There's still opening for PT's and OT's (in underserved areas) but the window might close faster. There will be Nursing shortage for along time and a lot of American nurses refuse to practice except during recession. They would rather go to other fields due to the work conditions.
