Hi everyone. I like to run this poll regarding day care service.
Most of us need yayas for our kids esp. when both parents are working. If not for the kids (age below 7*), most would probably do away with yayas.
If a daycare was available to you.
1- Would you entrust leaving your kids (infant to 5 years old) to a daycare?
2- How much are you willing to pay for such a service?
3-What type of service would you expect from one?

Hello everyone!
I will be having a baby four months from now and I am currently looking for a day care center/ nursery center here in Metro Manila. Can you please help me find one, preferably in Mandaluyong or Makati area? My husband and I are working and we don't want to burden our parents of taking care of the baby since they travel a lot. I don't like the idea of leaving my baby alone to a yaya so I prefer a day care center where they could provide stimulation and nurturing environment for my baby. I am thinking of a day care center which is managed by college grads who loves children. Thanks.

There is a daycare center here in the Ortigas Area at the Discovery Hotel 4th floor. The place is called ActionKidz. They provide daycare services even up to 8pm and they also have a pre-school. They have a good program but a bit pricey. You can email them at actionkidzpsg@yahoo.com or you can drop by and see for yourself if you like the place.

you can also try kidsville (or something). goodwill building 3rd floor, jupiter street, in front of starbucks. yung papunt ang gerry's grill. ok din, cheaper than homebase. let me know how it goes!

triad, arugaan is in the PIA (Phil. Information Agency) Bldg. Channel 4 compound sa may visayas ave. qc. hours of operation is from 7 am-5pm. when i enrolled my child there, i paid 2800 a month. not bad , considering it's 10 hours of quality care plus nutritious ang food - mejo vegetarian sila and they dont let the kids drink cows milk . the good thing thought is that the kids hardly get sick since there's so many allergies and sicknesses associated with animal food and cow's milk.
they also accept kids that are not toliet-trained - sila lang ang alam kong daycare na nagtuturo ng toliet training. pinaliliguan din nila ang mga kids.
another thing is that while there's some sort of instruction (they teach in filipino) , it is not forced. there's a good sleeping area and playing area.
the only letdown is that they close at 5 pm - mejo mahihirapan ka if you're far from QC and dont have logistical support. and if govert offices close, closed din sila. pero very good sa anak ko ang arugaan experience nya.

1 - No. I don't want to entrust my baby to a day care.
2 - Daycares here charge $350 per week
3 - I expect Daycares to provide the type of caring a parent gives to her child. And that would mean a one-to-one ratio in terms of looking after the kids...But it's very rare for daycares to have that kind of service anyway...so why put your child into one???

1- Absolutely. In fact, had it been my way, KiT would have been in one as early as his sixth month.
2- Unsure.
3- One that also is a preschool.
We're already stressing on where and how soon our 3yr old can start preschool given the demand. Wait list is as long as about 50 kids. Had we started the process during his infancy, this would not be an issue.

1- Would you entrust leaving your kids (infant to 5 years old) to a daycare? we tried the cambridge child dev centre for 2 months, that was only because my 3-year old's actual pre-school did not start yet, i just wanted my child to "get his feet wet" so to speak...it was okay, but he now enjoys montessori pre-school better.
2- How much are you willing to pay for such a service? for 3 days per week, 8:30 am to 12:30 nn, we paid almost S$300 per month, excluding registration, insurance and uniforms.
3-What type of service would you expect from one? what i observed with daycare is that most of the time the children play, and they call this a play-learning environment, so since i am a stay at home mom, i believe that i can do better for my son by being with him myself, in our home. so we opted for a montessori school because the learning is much more structured.

Your opinion pls.
Di ba too early yun to send a 1 yr. and 8 month old- baby to daycare? Actually parang daycare/watch-over program ng UP for their employees’ kids. Mga shapes and very basic stuff lang sabi o merely socialization lang siguro. Kaya lang baka too stressful yun sa bata given his tender age. Currently he’s being left o his nanny when we got to work

siguro okey lang yon kasi matuto silang makisama in an early age, pero baka nga din ma stress si baby sa new environment.

i don't think so. dito nga sa states as early as 6 months nasa daycare na. but i didn't do that and i have my own reasons. i never put any of my kids sa daycare. my husband and i take turns in taking care of them. i plan to put my daughter sa headstart (preschool) pag 3 na sya.
it really depends on you and your husband. ako kasi i have a lot of fears kaya hindi ko sila nilagay sa daycare...

Don't have personal experience in this yet, but I'm planning to put my daughter in a daycare center when she turns one. I'm sure your kid will be fine as long as he doesn't spend 10 hours a day there and is introduced to the center gently and gradually. Make sure there's a good ratio of care providers to kids, and that they keep younger and older kids in different groups to avoid bullying.

siguro pwedeng ipa-sit in mo muna yung baby mo, parang trial session, just to see how he would be sa bagong environment na yon. yung ibang babies 7 months old pa lang ok na sila sa ganong environment pero yung iba kelangan ng more time to adjust.

yeah...i agree.
pero syempre, iba pa rin ang alaga ng magulang diba. daycare is good kung both of you and ur husband are working...sorry dont know ur gender :) pero di rin kase maiiwasan ang aksidente sa kahit sang lugar di ba.
i have a friend who sent her 7 months old baby to a day care. syempre malilikot yung mga kasamang bata, yung iba, baby pa lang nagger na, ayun, may mga pasa yung baby nang sinundo nya. natutulog daw tas ginapangan ng kung sino sinong bata.
to make sure, look for a neat day care na sure ka na mababantayang mabuti ang anak mo

Hi, May I ask why is it that most moms wanted to expose baby in schools/daycare/learning center at a very early age, even as early as 1yo? Way back then, I remembered attending school at the age of 5 and was still considered saling pusa in the class. But now, parang it's a trend that babies should be in school by 3 yo. Will it make them smarter in the future?

In our case it's because we have to work and can't hire a yaya. It's not to make the baby smarter, but just to keep her supervised and safe :)
The ideal arrangement is having a great caregiver (yaya or family member) at home who's patient enough to play with them, but most kids probably end up on their yaya's laps watching noontime shows when the parents are away working. Daycare doesn't have to be all studying and structured activities, for younger kids I think they just let them play and let them interact with each other.

we opted for daycare (action kidz) instead of hiring a yaya. to us daycare is just like having siblings and cousins at home except that the kid's are supervised while playing. activity sessions are just bonus.
with yaya salaries at 4k/month and having an aircon on 24/7. i'd go for daycare anytime.

Both of my kids went to daycare and my wife and I are glad that we decided on it. The following are the benefits and improvements we saw in our kids:
1) Speech development - this came quickly due to the fact the teachers spoke to them the proper way and not "baby talk"
2) Concept of sharing - they learned to play with other kids, taking turns when playing
3) Proper use of utensils
4) Basic concepts in colors, alphabets, numbers, and shapes
5) Different kids' games and activities - they get exposed to numerous educational games and activities that they otherwise would not have experienced had they stayed home with a yaya
6) Storybook readings
Our parents, initially were so against the idea of sending our kids to daycare. However, they quickly changed their attitude once they saw how much the kids learned in a span of few months.
I will say it was definitely worth it. I'd rather have my kids in daycare than have them stay at home with a yaya that will probably won't teach them anything. Sayang lang ang oras.

This is due to the fact that some medical researches have shown that a child's brain can start absorbing information at a very young age. Kids brains are like sponges, they absorb everything and having them start at a younger age (my daughter was 2 and my son was 2 months old) will help them learn a lot more.
The thinking and attitude when we were kids were a lot different. These days, the thinking is more focused on the child's brain development.

A Daycare center should be both fun and educational for the kids. I don't think it wouldn't be such a good idea for us to send our kids to just any daycare that wouldn't be able to develop both their intellect and personalities.
I know of a good day care program for the summer offered at the Little Archers Learning Center in Multinational, Parañaque - 823 2390. Very cheap rates too.

Oo nga pala. Pag playroom, dapat may guardian. Daycare talaga dapat. My son is just turning three. I thought i could bring him with me once a week as a treat, and peek in on him during my breaks but i guess that's really not feasible. Darn.

^I share the same sentiment.
Could you please help us scout with home-based day care centers? I live in Manila but I work in Makati. We have a yaya but she is leaving soon after I discovered her stealing our stuff at home. We are wont to hire a new nanny but this time, I want my child also to be exposed to learning while I am at work.
Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Hi!
to everyone looking for a daycare center, i just wanna share my great experience with Sacred Heart School. It's actually a pre-school and daycare center at the same time. The school is located at the basement level of Goodwill Bookstore Glorietta. I actually started bringing my baby to their Bel-air branch which was used to be at Goodwill Bldg Buendia, after paseo de roxas near MRT Station when my baby was still 6 months old. I brought her there everyday except weekends coz im a working mom and have no yaya. She' s the youngest at that time and i bring all her stuff like strollers, walkers, and baby needs, milk, etc. She practically grew up there for 3 yrs. After my baby's 2nd year, the branch closed and we were transferred to the glorietta branch. She continued her stay at glorietta from 2 yrs old to 3 1/2. She's now age 4 and already in her nursery level at CSA.
I've had a wonderful and great experience with that daycare center because my kid learned speaking in english at an early stage of 1 1/2 yrs old. Even before she started schooling, she's so very well conversant in english because the teachers at SHS let her sit in their class.
I am very grateful with the management and staff of that daycare center and their nannies specially because even if they don't claim it, i can tell and see the development (mental and physical) of my child. I can compare her progress from my 1st born who's already 15 yrs old now. Yes they have 12 years gap by age, obviously for working moms like me.
In my case, yaya is not in my dictionary because i survived raising 2 kids (15 and 4) without them.
freya_elizabeth
Sep 11, 2009, 02:15 PM
^sis, do you still have their contact details? how do we get in touch with them? are they still operating in goodwill glorietta?
i think most of us do not really opt for a yaya. but due to hard financial times, moms are compelled to work to sustain daily living. add that to the sad fact that daycare centers are not very much a trend in Filipino society, unlike abroad (Australia, US, for example) where they have daycare centers for kids of working parents.
thanks for sharing your experience with sacred heart school. please fill us in if you have other details to share. :)

Hi there freya! sorry for the late reply. yup, they're very much operational up to present. their landline num is 867-1125. Currently, teacher Weng is the directress. you may ask her anything that concerns your needs and your baby's needs. they're very mabait. The teachers are very friendly and the nannies are very competent and maalaga. madalas nga nakakalimutan kong baunan ng lunch and merienda toddler ko, pero busog pag uwi. Hope that adds up to your peace of mind.
