I asked a very good friend of mine about my plan of taking second degree in engineering field. After a long talked, there's one quote that always goes in and out into my mind and that's... "Nothing beats experience". Well... I don't know yet, but I'm certain that instead of adding or putting the first four letters in my name, it's "Capt." and not this "Engr." :D
Hi guys! Let's have this board as a tool of sharing experiences, ideas, latest news, events, recommended books, et cetera in this kind of field. Whether you are an architect, draftsman, civil engineer, mechanical engineer, structural engineer, electrical engineer, sanitary engineer, et cetera, just shoot it. Whether you are the chairman, director, ceo, coo, president, construction manager, secretary, admin officer, et cetera of the company, don't hesitate to fire in. Whether you are an entrepreneur, developer, realtor, general contractor, supplier, students, et cetera, please join us. ;)

I'm into designing industrial plants (well... training to be one to be exact hehe). Not exactly into construction, but maybe I can chip-in a thing or two about building plants :)
But why don't you start off with something to talk about omeng?

Max, I'm not quite sure if the general contructor of St. Luke is JURONG. I met their gen manager a year ago when we had a meeting for a possible mechanical project. The guy was young pero tindi ng qualification. Apat ang titulo. :D

Having posted the photo of PPT, I'm wondering if MAX is from either R+C or ARQ :)
I love the construction/building industry, and will not trade it for a high-paying call center job. I don't care if I've to deal with manyak workers, "makulit" suppliers, noisy backhoes and irate clients. I'd rather work in this field and get paid 10k than work in a call center (which I did) and get paid 12k++

currently, I'm with a construction company, technical team, I should say :)
I'm not angry with call center peeps, I just had a bad experience. It's not for me. It's not my cup of tea...I'm too technical even for a TSR :P
It just didn't feel right for me to study something I LOVE for 5 years and answer silly questions and hear psuedo american accents (wrong grammar naman) for 8 hours. No offense to my former colleages as there were a FEW good men.

Wow! She's sniffing sand, gravel, and cement (regardless if it be pozzolan or portland) altogether? That's amazing! I can already imagine the pipe.
Come to think of it, is this before or after mixing?

If the contractors are decent and they followed the specs, and of course, the building was designed by a competent team of professionals, then I can say that buildings are relatively safe.

Eh? Isn't concrete supposed to be a mixture of cement, sand, and gravel (not counting water)? And if concrete is poured into a form with metal such as rebars (regardless if they're vertical or horizontal such as floors, columns, and beams), isn't that supposed to be called reinforced concrete? I mean, that's my understanding (after 5 years of architecture and 10 years of practice on and off construction sites, that is).

Just to make you feel better, my filipino words in the construction sucks big time. I only know the basic stuff. I wonder why it wasn't offered during college. Wanna know something hilarious? Look at every construction blueprints (from architects, engineers, contractors, etc. in Pinas) that you come across and you'd notice that the plans and other detailed drawings are drawn in metric scale but items specified are in english scale - it's like people can't make up their minds.

when this was being built all the other contractors there had on their pajeros and stayed in fancy hotels. one contractor who did the finishing for this project stayed with the constructions workers ate with them and bunked with them in the baracks. he led by example.

And finally, all government permits for my construction firm are now ok. Very funny indeed. Imagine, I started by reserving the name online (SEC) at June 16, 2006 and was just finished yesterday. Take note that "Diskarteng marino pa yan!"
Ika nga ni Manny V. (kinda like this), "kung sa permit pa lang eh sumusuko ka na, wag ka na ngang magnegosyo."
Buhay nga naman sa gobyerno, oo. :D
