Madami ako nakikita sa Sunday issue ng Manila Bulletin na nag-o-offer ng English proficiency short courses for call center tulad ng donaldson at ecalltraining.
Hirap kasi pumili, at tsaka baka hindi pala effective yung program nung iba.
Can anyone here recommend which among these schools have effective English proficiency training?
Or maybe, there are some na di naman pala ayos ang training at nagsayang lang ng pera. Anyone who can share bad experience?

Go to these places and try sitting in their classes for you to see what methods or approaches they use in classrooms or what kind of teachers they have. In most cases, schools like the one you mentioned will allow you to do that. By doing this, you will have an opportunity to weigh which school addresses your needs in the best possible way.
Good luck!

If you hear the teacher who pronounces the word Google as googel, stay away from that school. :D

basically i would suggest a cheaper alternative, try to read a lot and watch a lot of american films. At the same time trying writing short articles. Once it becomes a daily habit you will talk, write and speak better english

yes that is a cheaper alternative. but sometimes...even with that you still don't get the right pronuonciations.
but constantly speaking in english helps big time.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your help.
Maybe I should try to inquire if they will allow me to sit-in their class.
As for the cheaper alternative, I doubt its feasibility. I live in a house with several family members who watch telenovelas on prime-time. I have to fight my way against my grandma and my sisters. Aside from that, I am not really a fan of television (regardless if its Filipino program, American program, Korean, Japanese, etc).
As for writing articles, well... I have no problem with written English. It is part of my everyday job. I can always proofread my own work to check if there is any grammatical error, but it's not the same as oral. Once you said something, you already said it. You cannot change it.

There was a time not so long ago when all of my friends (and most of my classmates) would ONLY communicate in English (and this was like only 20 years ago). I even remembered me and my friends all joked to one another saying if we ever knew any tagalog at all! LOL!
Granted I went to a private school in Manila throughout my elementary and highschool years but I never had a missed opportunity in speaking/conversing in English in those days. And now after reading this, I have to say... my, how times have changed indeed! I shudder to think how the English landscape in the Philippines would be in the NEXT 20 years.

Start shuddering. I remember a teacher back in high school in Pinas who pronounces A-J-A-X as "A-Jack" without the "S". Her excuse: if there are two bars of soap, then it's pronounced as "A-Jacks", and if it's just one, then it's pronounced "A-Jack". I told myself I'll be happy if I pass and be rid of this teacher (since there's no need for me to learn more from such idiot).

Dude, first I would like to congratulate you for succeeding in your aim to learn how to speak English properly.
Second, I would like to inform you that THIS THREAD IS NOT THE PROPER PLACE FOR SUCH KIND OF RANT.
I started this thread only for my own personal use. I want to speak English properly so I am asking which short-course school is the best place to enroll. It is no different in case I decided that I need to learn Croatian or Kazakh languages and ask around where I can enroll.
So please, leave this thread alone if you cannot prevent yourself from swaying away from the topic. Thankyou.

That's right. Since we are good in copying other nationalities, it would be easy for you to have an American accent by simply watching American shows, news, movies, and reading books as well as learning to write in English. Habit does go a long way.

Cheapest alternative: http://www.m-w.com/ You can listen how the words are pronounced, and imitate it. Helps big time.

Go find a drunken Irishman. If you understand him better than he undertands himself, you're proficient.
