Welcome to our new forum, a mini-marketplace where you can buy, sell, or trade.
Ads were previously a part of Business and Careers, and many of you are already familiar with our advertising rules. I'd like to make some reminders for everyone, so that our little trading post here doesn't get too confusing and gives maximum benefit to everyone.
1 We allow ads which relate only to legal commerce (buying, selling, asking, giving, or exchanging). We do not allow ads for illegal activities, such as buying and selling prohibited drugs, kidnap and ransom, hitmen for hire, prostitution, trafficking of minors, and similar activities. We reserve the right to delete ads for illegal activities.
"Illegal" means against the laws of the Republic of the Philippines.
2 Buyers and Sellers Beware - this is a free marketplace. PEx does not charge a fee or commission from any commercial activities which may arise from advertising in this forum. We do not screen sellers for legitimacy or good business practices, and we do not screen buyers for their ability to pay. If you wish to use the services of this forum, you do so at your own risk.
3 All threads will be locked after remaining inactive (no new posts) for at least 90 days. This is to make sure all information on the front page is current.
4 Since this forum is devoted solely to ads, we are no longer providing the "one free bump" service to advertisers. Each advertiser is responsible for his ad. If you want to remind people of your opportunity after your ad has left Page 1, bump it up. We will no longer do this for you.
And the [Ad] prefix on the title, which we suggested before and added to any title which needed it, is now redundant and no longer required or suggested.

Write a descriptive title
These are examples of ordinary titles:
Car for Sale
Looking for a Job
Nokia 6150
And these are examples of descriptive titles for the same ads:
For Sale Red 1998 BMW 316i P350T negotiable
Fresh UST ECE Graduate & Board Placer looking for Telecom Job
Wanted to Buy Used Nokia 6150 less than 1 yr old
Put details in your titles that will make busy people want to check out your posting.
Leave Contact Information
Make sure that any interested people who wish to respond have a way to reach you easily. Leave an email address (if you wish, use vB code to hyperlink to your email), telephone number, fax, or pager.
A bit of advice, though. This forum is public and visible around the world. Displaying your email address is potentially an invitation to spammers. You may want to use an alternate email address to keep your main mailbox clean.
Activate the Email Notification Feature
If you turn this on, you'll be alerted when someone responds to your ad.
Put a Picture of What You're Selling
If you're selling a house, a car, a pet, or some other piece of merchandise with unique features, pictures sometimes speak volumes. Use the vB code image embedding commands for this purpose.
Do not bury your ad in someone else's ad
This is a sure-fire way of getting forgotten. Do you really want to let people know you're selling your computer by replying to someone who wanted to sell his car? Get maximum visibility and attention by starting your own topic. It's not that hard.

KD, I'm the LAST person in the world to argue with you, but I have a question regarding my Looking for a 5.3cm Yellow Gold Eternity Engagement Ring (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=43932) thread which was moved to Travel and Lifestyle.
So I read the guidelines you posted for the Classifieds forum. Rule # 1 states that:
1 We allow ads which relate only to legal commerce (buying, selling, asking, giving, or exchanging). We do not allow ads for illegal activities, such as buying and selling prohibited drugs, kidnap and ransom, hitmen for hire, prostitution, trafficking of minors, and similar activities. We reserve the right to delete ads for illegal activities.
"Illegal" means against the laws of the Republic of the Philippines.
My argument that my thread should be returned to the Classifieds for maximized visibility then would be that:
1. I am trying to buy a ring; ergo I am asking if any PExer is an alajera or knows of an alajera, I would like to hear from them from this Forum at PEx.
2. Last time I looked, wanting to buy an engagement ring wasn't considered an "illegal activity" :D , and is not against the laws of the Republic of the Philippines.
Secondly, for your second set of guidelines, "Write a descriptive title", you say that:
Car for Sale
Looking for a Job
Nokia 6150
Meaning "Looking for a Job" is permissible (but should be improved), but "Looking for a 5.3cm Yellow Gold Eternity Engagement Ring " is not? I'm confused.
If I put "Looking for a ring", then maybe you would have cause to have me edit my thread, but as it is, my thread is very specific :)
It's looking for an Engagement Ring with three distinct qualifications:
1. It's yellow gold.
2. It's 5.3 cm, and
3. It's an Eternity Band.
You can't get anymore specific than that :)
So I don't understand why you say my thread is not an ad. :( It's practically lost in "Travel and Lifestyle" :(
It is an ad, isn't it?
Also, take note of the thread, "I'll buy Nikos Kazantzakis' The Last Temptation of Christ" which is in the Classifieds. Is this an ad?
If so, should I just restructure my thread to say "I'll buy a 5.3cm Yellow Gold Eternity Engagement Ring" ?
Another thread reads "Looking 4 Prepaid Cell card suppliers" which is permissible.. whereas my thread, "Looking for a 5.3cm Yellow Gold Eternity Engagement Ring" is not. :(
For my last argument, I would like to suggest that whether you are a buyer or seller, all business and commerce threads where a product, good, or service is exchanged from one PExer to another, should be placed here in the Classifieds forum to save time and trouble. This is where people go to find stuff any way, so it's more convenient to have all the "Wanted" ads here, all in one place, rather than having to think first which forum to go to, to find a particular item.
If you really think about it, what does "Looking for a 5.3cm Yellow Gold Eternity Engagement Ring" have to do with Travel? Yes, you have to travel to the mall, hotel, or the alajera's house, but you know.. I think when we say "Travel" we mean "Vacation". Engagement Rings and Vacations are two completely different things, I would say, right? IMHO, it doesn't go with "Lifestyle" much either. Buying an engagement ring is more of a one time purchase than a lifestyle... Of course this is just my opinion. :)
Anyway, I hope my arguments made some sense to you. I honestly don't understand why my thread was transferred, but I know that there was a good reason for it. I just don't understand what the good reason was :) , and I will need your enlightened guidance on this matter :)
Yours Truly,
Noisy Cricket

In other forums in this website, you will see topics started by people looking for places to buy cheap computer parts, wanting to sign up with a good ISP, or choosing a good restaurant with a cozy atmosphere where one can have lunch at reasonable prices. The replies typically consist of suggestions and recommendations. I call these types of topics "referral threads", for want of a better term.
The originators are all prospective buyers, just like you, yet those topics remain outside Classifieds. If I had my way, they would all be moved to Classifieds.
But I don't always have my way. There are good reasons referral threads remain where they are. Many of those forums predate Classifieds, and the members have gotten comfortable seeing these topics there for the longest time. Further, many of those referral threads benefit from the inputs of moderators and members who are familiar with the subject matter.
So I have had to create my own working definition of what constitutes an ad in Classifieds, and what distinguishes an ad from a referral thread. So far, what I use is this: if the discussion is leading towards a transaction between PExers, it is an ad. If the discussion is leading towards a transaction with an entity outside of PEX, it is a referral thread. Is my definition etched in stone? Of course not. I am glad this incident, and your arguments, have come forward, so we can consider if anything we do can be improved.
Notice that I waited for a few replies before moving your topic. Only when it became clear to me that no PExer was coming forward to actually sell you a ring did I decide that your topic was a referral thread. I used my definition and moved it.
As to the choice of Travel and Lifestyle, I consulted with another moderator, who shall remain nameless. This moderator is a she, and in my opinion, could use a few more pounds on her very slight frame. I'm giving no more clues. ;) We decided at that time that Travel and Lifestyle was the most appropriate place for your thread.
Obviously your objective in creating the post was to accumulate suggestions leading to the successful purchase of a ring for the lucky lady. Fair enough. If you feel that Classifieds is the best place for such a posting, I'm willing to listen. As I said in another thread, we'll bring your topic back.
In the future, I shall use this experience to remind myself to check if moving a referral thread to another forum does more harm than good - good being defined as page views, useful replies, and ultimately a commercial transaction, either with a PExer, or a third party. I apologize if this incident has upset your schedule or adversely affected your plans in any way. We will do better next time.

 This moderator is a she, and in my opinion, could use a few more pounds on her very slight frame. Sounds really familiar, KD!
Actually, the reason why I wrote that long post was just to "speak my mind" on a topic that could been seen from different perspectives.
Another, was because actually, it would have been a precedent for the next topic I wanted to post in Classifieds that was more or less what you would describe as a "Referral Ad" . It was going to be a thread entitled, "Calling all bankers, does your bank have foreclosed properties you want to sell? Commission is yours!" or some cheezy title like that.
Benefits from posting it in the Classifieds:
1. It's (by my definition, anyway) a "Wanted: " ad. If there is a PExer who is in the banking biz, and his or her bank just happens to have an attractive foreclosed property, from which, he stands to get a substantial commission without adding on to the cost, it becomes a WIN-WIN situation :)
He/she gets to sell a foreclosed property, the bank gets its money back from the loan against it, he or she personally gets the commission from the sale, and I get my house :)
I used to work in a bank before and I know there were many ways to earn money selling foreclosed properties if one just knew who to sell them to. Another strong reason I feel I want to post that ad is that the position I worked as in the bank paid me really really really low. (Try P7,000 gross - take home? -> P4,000 after tax, deductions, and all). (And that was Pay Grade 5. PG1 was like P4,000 gross..)
So I honestly believe that
2. it would help someone out there if they knew of a foreclosed property that was still good :)
From the first couple of posts in the engagement ring topic, perhaps it started off as a "referral thread", but who's to say in the future that someone wouldn't come along and turn it into a direct PExer to PExer ad?
Even if I myself already have an engagement ring, it could generate new business for the PExer-alajera/o.
And also important, PExers who are just approaching this stage (as I am now), will be able to learn from the thread.
Besides, :) will it take up much space on the forum? The threads don't move that fast, and God knows we could use more traffic at the Classifieds.
So how about, KD? Keep it there to attract more sellers / learners? :)
(And can I post my thread about Foreclosed properties?)
Truly Yours,
Noisy Cricket

Occasionally I may post a humorous comment about selected ads in this forum. You may have seen this in the c-o-c-k-e-r spaniel and Playboy limited edition threads.
For those who have not met me, I must say this is a symptom of my being human and has nothing to do with the quality or content of your ads. I request you to take these bits of humor for what they are - an attempt to lighten up our day - and nothing more than that.
I apologize beforehand for any consequences. I mean no offense.

Trading in smuggled goods deprives our government of revenue which it can use to conduct its business. Please keep this in mind the next time you feel like complaining about how ineffective our government is. You could be part of the reason.

Information buyers often ask about , but sellers often forget to mention
1) Why are you selling the item? (Usually applicable to second hand items)
2) Is there a warranty? (Usually applicable to brand new and slightly used items)
3) What is the price of that item in stores?
4) What condition is the item in?
5) Where are the goods now? Can we inspect them?
6) Do you deliver? Is there an extra charge for delivery?
7) How do I pay you? Do you accept checks or credit cards?
8) How can I contact you? (Very Important)
9) For motor vehicles - a) last digit of plate number; b) color; c) model year; d) mileage
If your ad answers these questions even before they are asked, you can help save time for everybody.

KuyaDanny
Jan 8, 2002, 05:32 AM
Depends.
If you expect that the PExers will sell you the product you are looking for, YES.
If you are looking for suggestions or recommendations on a product that is available in stores, other forums specific to the product might be more appropriate.

Like halimbawa, nagkaroon kayo ng bilihan with an ad the

What about those obscenely inane get rich quick scams eheste schemes that have inundated the forums? Other forums have explicitly banned these types of posts if not of the mathematical absurdity or its moral ineptitude but more of the forum noise it generates.
I'm one to believe that the classifieds are more for the exchange of goods and services and not sheer generation of wealth out of referrals.
The sad thing is that there are a lot of people lazy, desperate, and idiotic enough to buy into this.

I am reposting another announcement made earlier:
Suggestions - how to post good classified ads
Write a descriptive title
These are examples of ordinary titles:
Car for Sale
Looking for a Job
Nokia 6150
And these are examples of descriptive titles for the same ads:
For Sale Red 1998 BMW 316i P350T negotiable
Fresh UST ECE Graduate & Board Placer looking for Telecom Job
Wanted to Buy Used Nokia 6150 less than 1 yr old
Put details in your titles that will make busy people want to check out your posting.

Activate the Email Notification Feature
If you turn this on, you'll be alerted when someone responds to your ad.
Note: Email notification is no longer available. Another feature which serves a similar purpose is Track this Thread. Use this instead.
Put a Picture of What You're Selling
If you're selling a house, a car, a pet, or some other piece of merchandise with unique features, pictures sometimes speak volumes. Use the vB code image embedding commands for this purpose.
Note: I understand that it is a little more difficult now since we no longer allow attachments. However, if a picture is available and is properly hosted, incorporating it in your ad is still highly encouraged.
Do not bury your ad in someone else's ad
This is a sure-fire way of getting forgotten. Do you really want to let people know you're selling your computer by replying to someone who wanted to sell his car? Get maximum visibility and attention by starting your own topic. It's not that hard.
Note: This practice is also rude. You are not rude people, are you? Don't do it.

Buy, Sell, and Swap is no more. We have broken it up into four parts, as you can see. Please post in the appropriate forum.
We will not move misposted threads to their correct subforums. Instead, we will move them to the Archive where no one can reply to them. So think before you post, and help create an orderly and useful community.
We are soliciting ideas for catchy names for the Classifieds subforums (except Looking Good, Feeling Good). If you have any to share, let me know and I shall consider.
Thank you.

Reservations
A suggestion to sellers:
Some buyers may ask you to "reserve" goods for them. It is your choice, as a seller, to agree or refuse the request.
We remind you that PEx does not vouch for the integrity of any of the buyers (or sellers) who do business in these forums. Some members have asked sellers to reserve goods for them, only to forget about the transaction or deny ever making the request. The seller ends up losing opportunities to make a sale.
If you decide to reserve merchandise in favor of a buyer, we suggest you place a time limit on the reservation. If the buyer does not close the purchase within the time limit, you are free to offer the goods to other people.
So instead of saying:
"Nokia 6610 reserved for KuyaDanny", say this:
"Nokia 6610 reserved for KuyaDanny until 12:00 noon, Friday."
KuyaDanny

We have created four new subforums because of increased ad volume:
Mobile Phones (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=239) - formerly housed in Consumer Electronics
Computers (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=240) - formerly housed in Consumer Electronics
Cars and Car Accessories (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=241) - formerly housed in Miscellaneous
Real Estate (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=242) - formerly housed in Miscellaneous
Existing threads in the old subforums will be moved shortly. Please post new threads in their correct places. Posting the same ad in more than one subforum is spamming and not allowed without our permission.
Thank you.

You might want to BOOKMARK the ad threads you create here. This makes it easier for you to check for replies, even if the thread is moved to another subforum or buried by newer threads.
