I don't think they accept Walk-In applicants because you have to undergo the PRE-QUALIFYING PHONE EXAM (a software which Accenture bought from the U.S.).
For interested applicants: BEAR IN MIND that there's no Human Intervention on the said exam; meaning, it's computer generated. In 2-3 minutes, you would know your score.
There are three (3) parts of the exam. You have to pass all three parts in order for you to be called by the Accenture recruitment team within a day or two. (sure yun. :)) You will be scheduled for a PET (Pre-Employment Test) which is an SOP if you're applying for a position in Accenture. However, the only difference is that unlike before, which you have to take 7 test modules, for ACCS applicants, you have to take ONLY the first two (2) modules.
After passing the exam, the manager will conduct the interview (actually in my case, he's a Senior Manager). After 30 minutes, the interviewer will tell you if you will be extended for a job offer.
:)
I still have til 4pm to decide if I should accept the offer or not because my application in IBM is still pending as of now. If I'll accept the offer, I'll be part of the 2nd Batch (Wave 2) of ACCS.

Accenture may not pay the highest but the overall package is very competitive. Here's the breakdown:
*Basic Salary Range (12k to 17k) depending on experience
*Night Diff 10%
*Meal and Transpo (pegged at 150/day x 20 = 3k a month)
*You have 1k/month medicine/dental/optical allowance. Just show HR the proof of purchase and they will reimburse. That's 12k a year cummulative.
*HMO coverage upon employment.
*HMO subsidy for your dependents.
*Guaranteed 14 months pay.
And most of all, Accenture has a very stable culture that promotes career growth within the company. Each employee from the rank and file to the senior executives has a "career counselor" who you get to meet once a month to discuss your work/life balance. So you're well being is constantly monitored.
They also have transparent and strict policies on promotion, so the "politics" that everyone is complaining about is minimized.
So apply na kayo!

You mean, aside from HMO coverage, pati gamot and services na di covered ng HMO ay reimbursable ng Accenture? OK ah! Ano ang HMO nyo? Medicard?
Thanks, Dickie for your complete and concise info above regarding pay and benefits at Accenture. If only everyone here on the call center threads was like you in giving the skinny on essential facts in a call center job. :) You missed one thing though--anong account/s? Inbound/outbound?

Iba iba ata ang package ng Accenture depending on the nature of the business. Example BPO employees are not covered by HMO until they are regularized while MDC and Call Center employees are covered on DAY ONE. I suppose you're an experienced hire? Not a JSE? Hehehe, alam ko kasi 15k ang starting ng JSE eh.
Well really its the career counselor and I Talk thing that got me thinking about joining Accenture. There seems to be a future here. =)

Accenture in principle does not hire undergrads. This is for the good of those who plan to establish a career in the company, with a degree its up to you how far you'll take your career within the company and an undergrad will have serious handicaps in doing just that.
Hope this helps. =)

IF YOU GUYS PASSED CONVERGYS ACCENTURE ACCOUNT.. Then You'll pass Accenture...

Actually when you come to think about it, it could also be good na 10% lang Night Diff? you know why? that exposes you to less risk on income fluctuations due to schedule changes, coz your net income is not tied down with the night diff.
some CC kasi pay low base then high night diff, eh pano pag biglang nagbago sked mo? di talo ka na. Once again basahin mo yung buong thread and you'll realize accenture actually has one of the most competitive package in the industry. =)

The Accenture accounts[outsourcer that further outsourced the accounts] outsourced to Convergys will not be affected by the establishment of the customer relationship management unit of Accenture in the Philippines according to my high level source within the company. Even Convergys agents can transfer to Accenture....the pioneer account[tech] is not the one subcontracted to Convergys.

Big IT Wants Call Center Capacity
By Richard Mills
Article Word Count: 1072 [View Summary] Comments (0)
Chairman
Chalré Recruitment Outsourcing
A couple of months ago, IBM announced that it was purchasing a 9,000-person call center named Daksh with operations in India and the Philippines. The acquisition is interesting for two reasons. First, IBM previously had no significant call center capacity and with this one purchase has become a major player in the booming offshore industry. Second, the price IBM paid was considered by most people to be irrationally exuberant. According to investment banking firm Avendus, the price was roughly 15 times last year's earnings (or three times annual revenues). Clearly, IBM felt that owning (rather than just leasing) call center capacity was an absolute necessity for its long-term business strategy.
Earlier in the year, Accenture hired a senior call center executive away from the contact center company ICT Group. When I spoke to this executive about his new job, he said he was hired to be "responsible for the world's single largest call center offshore initiative," which involves 6,000 call center seats. Apparently, Accenture is moving into the call center business in a big way as well.
Traveling in the opposite direction, the large call centers are moving into the IT services business, although in a somewhat less grandiose manner. Sykes is a worldwide contact center organization with many service lines including managing tech support for clients like Microsoft and Intel. It has done such good IT support work that it has moved into full-blown IT outsourcing. In the Philippines, Sykes is hiring software developers by the hundreds to do software programming work for its blue-chip clients.
Convergys, another large contact center organization, has hired ICT heavyweights to oversee the company's Information Management Group. Its objective is to focus on developing the company's "higher-value service offerings" in the IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) spheres.
Meeting in the Middle
Another area of budding togetherness for IT and contact center services, BPO is considered the mother lode of outsourcing because it encompasses everything that can be imagined as being outsourced. It is a very big field.
A quick look at the Accenture Web site makes that company's direction clear. It now provides 18 categories of services. Some of the new BPO subsidiaries that have been incorporated over just the past few years are Accenture Finance Solutions, Accenture HR Services, Accenture Learning, Accenture Procurement Solutions, Accenture Business Services for Utilities, Accenture eDemocracy Services and Navitaire -- a bewildering number of extensions to the core Accenture brand.
IBM's approach is to keep all BPO work under a single company umbrella, but its BPO focus in the booming Asia-Pacific region is obvious by its hiring practices. As one example, recent full-page employment advertisements in the Philippines are being used to hire boatloads of people required for IBM's outsourcing operations. The advertisements emphasize the need for "previous experience in the areas of customer care, human resources, employee and payroll services." Requirements for IT skills are stated farther down on the page, giving the appearance of being an afterthought.
On the call center side, Convergys is promoting services like billing and employee care (payroll, benefits and other human resource services). Sykes says it delivers "total solutions" to "complement" its CRM services. The large call center StarTek is probably the most bold. It comes right out and calls itself a "Business Process Outsourcing" company.
So what is going on? Why does everyone want to be in each other's business?
There seem to be two main reasons these companies are broadening their product lines into areas that are clearly outside their core expertise. The first has to do with customer requirements. Large blue-chip clients no longer want to buy bits and pieces of service offerings from a jumble of separate suppliers. It's just too complicated and expensive to manage it all. They want to buy a broad range of outsourcing services from a few suppliers (or even just one).
This trend has been happening in the IT sector for some time now. According to Gartner Inc. and most of the major IT analysts, large outsourcing deals have been the "main engine of growth" over the past couple of years, and this trend is expected to continue.
Escaping commodisation is another reason companies are expanding to new frontiers. The most successful IT companies have become so large and their project management procedures so reliable that, to a large and sophisticated client, their service offerings can be difficult to distinguish from those of competitors. In other words, they have become commodity providers -- not that much different from farmers selling pork bellies. This situation has been apparent in the call center industry for some time. The IT companies, on the other hand, aren't used to thinking of themselves in such a manner and probably don't like it very much. But what unique selling feature could there possibly be among high-quality companies like Accenture, EDS, HP, CSC or IBM, other than price?
In order to escape this dead end, everyone wants to move aggressively into new businesses. BPO seems exciting because it's new to everybody and industry standards for service levels and pricing are not yet well developed. As a result, the sales process is more consultative in nature (rather than just a discussion of price) and there is much more value to add. In such an environment, the opportunities for higher margins are greatly enhanced -- as any salesman would appreciate.
Where Will It All Lead?
It is very evident that both the large contact center companies and the IT services organizations will continue to expand their product lines into BPO and each other's businesses. However, it's the IT companies and not the call centers that sign the big outsourcing deals -- anyone who reads the business journals knows this. Announcements for billion-dollar outsourcing contracts are becoming almost a biweekly occurrence for the IT professional services companies.
As well, my information indicates that throughout the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region, it is almost always the IT companies that are looking to acquire call center capacity (i.e., buy call center companies) and seldom the other way around. If the past is an indicator of the future, then a lot of people from the call center industry might soon be calling themselves geeks.

The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers is an annual ranking of those organisations, in the private and public sectors, that new graduates would most like to work for. Based on interviews with more than 16,000 final-year university students it is a definitive record of Britain's most prestigious and sought-after graduate employers. The students are asked the open ended question "Which employer do you think offers the best opportunities for graduates?" this year more than 500 employers were named and the 100 firms with the most votes form the new Top 100 chart below.
Very few get top billing
Despite the fact that more than 140 organisations have been ranked in ten years of the Top 100 list, just four of these have reached the very top, Martin Birchall writes
Click here to search for the most sought-after employers in our interactive table and click here for our key to this year's list
THIS is the tenth edition of The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers and much has changed in the employment market since the first league table appeared in 1997.
Marks & Spencer was voted the No 1 graduate employer that year, with Procter & Gamble, the now defunct accountancy firm Arthur Andersen, Andersen Consulting and ICI as the runners-up. Engineering was the top career destination and new graduates expected average starting salaries of just £14,400 for their first jobs after university.
In the decade since, more than 140 employers have been featured in the Top 100 lists. Just three other organisations have taken the top spot: Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) was No 1 from 1998 to 2002; the Civil Service was the winner in 2003; and Price- waterhouseCoopers has been the leading recruiter since 2004.
Nearly two fifths of the employers featured in this year’s Top 100 are either banking or financial institutions or accountancy, law or consulting firms. This means that only one fifth of the UK’s most sought-after graduate employers are now manufacturing or industrial companies — the lowest proportion yet recorded in the Top 100 — and just seven are IT or telecoms firms. Although more graduates from the class of 2006 applied for jobs in the media than any other career destination, just six of the employers featured in the Top 100 are in advertising, broadcasting or publishing. The remaining employers are made up of government agencies and departments, retailers, charities and airlines.
Of the eight new entries in the 2006 list, the Financial Services Authority is in 93rd place while the Bank of America, the Government Legal Service, the accountancy firm Grant Thornton, Nationwide Building Society and the law firm Addleshaw Goddard take the last five places.
The biggest falls of the year were for the international pharmaceuticals company Pfizer and law firm Baker & McKenzie, both of which dropped nearly 30 places. Among the organisations that left the Top 100 altogether were Ford, MI5 — The Security Service, the British Nuclear Group and the European investment bank ABN Amro. Three of last year’s new entries also failed to stay up — PA Consulting, ICI and the law firm Simmons & Simmons.

N.D. will likely be hiked to 20 percent. There has always been a free full course meal and a free snack for us everyday so far...aside from having a food and transportation allowance.
One more thing, the lone account we have here is well-known in the industry for providing generous incentives to outsourced agents.

And yes, our first client is very well known for giving generous incentives on top of the normal pay and incentives given by the outsourcer.

Accenture Ads Feature Tiger Woods_again
By DAN CATERINICCHIA AP Business Writer
© 2006 The Associated Press
WASHINGTON — In golf and in business, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just tweak it a little.
That's what management and technology consulting firm Accenture Ltd. has done in an advertising and marketing campaign set to launch Monday, touting its research on "high-performance" businesses that will feature the world's top golfer Tiger Woods -- again.
The old slogan: "Go on. Be a Tiger." The new: "We know what it takes to be a Tiger."
The previous three-year campaign was featured in a variety of print, television, online and airport poster ads that cost Accenture more than $65 million a year. This campaign cost the same although $3.5 million will be spent online this year compared with $2.9 million last year, said James E. Murphy, the Bermuda-based company's chief marketing and communications officer.
"The old campaign has really well put together ads that clearly demonstrate the high performance aspect and tying Tiger into that," said Michael Giardina, assistant professor of advertising at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. "If they continue with that same basic presentation with Tiger in the ads, they're pretty solid visually."
WPP Group PLC's Young & Rubicam created the new campaign, which will run in 23 countries. The TV spots were well-received in six months of tests in 10 countries. That's to be expected since the previous campaign was the company's most successful in its history, Murphy said.
Woods' multicultural background should play well in other countries, Giardina said, adding that the only potential drawback is that Accenture's name could get overshadowed by the golfer's Nike gear, although the swoosh logo on his apparel is not as prominent as it was in last year's images.
Woods called his role as Accenture's global ambassador a "win/win partnership" and said renewing the deal "was a no-brainer."
"This is my only real business-to-business partnership and I hope it resonates with their customers," Woods wrote in an e-mail response to questions.
The ads compare Woods' ability on the golf course to the traits of leading businesses. The concept for the campaign came from a three-year research program which analyzed thousands of companies worldwide to find the traits of high-performing companies. Of 6,000 companies Accenture surveyed, 500 met the high performance criteria, although Murphy would not name names for competitive reasons.
The company spent a "couple million" on the research, Murphy said, but paid Woods far more to be a company pitchman. Accenture pays Woods, who earlier this year rattled off five straight tournament victories "what other people are paying him," he added. Woods won three of his five matches in the weekend's Ryder Cup, but the U.S. team lost 18 1/2-9 1/2 to the European squad.
Woods reportedly made more than $85 million last year from appearance fees and sponsors, including Nike Inc., American Express Co., and General Motors Corp.'s Buick.
Besides using Woods' image in the campaign, Accenture also gets photo shoots with him a couple days a year and a round of golf with some big clients, Murphy said. Woods also plays in the Accenture Match Play Championship. The next one is scheduled for February in Tucson, Ariz.
Accenture first contacted Woods in 2000 about featuring him in a Super Bowl commercial to touts its name change from Andersen Consulting. But a Screen Actors Guild strike that year crunched schedules and Woods had to shoot commercials for his other sponsors first, Murphy said.
As part of the new campaign, Accenture will add interactive tools to its Web site and expand traditional efforts in direct marketing, conferences and research papers, Murphy said.
The company manages up to 5,000 projects annually and less than 1 percent of those have problems, earning Accenture a reputation for "never walking away from a job," Murphy said.
Woods said he's also a customer, having used Accenture's business consulting services for his Tiger Woods Foundation Web site and Learning Center in Anaheim, Calif., where children who apply can come after school for interactive programs in science, math, technology and language arts.
Shares of Accenture added 50 cents to $29.84 in morning trading, while American Express gained 24 cents to $54.35, General Motors shed 2 cents to $30.60, and Nike dipped 76 cents to $85.60, all on the New York Stock Exchange.
Shares of WPP Group added 52 cents to $60.09 in morning trading on the Nasdaq.

I would just like to clarify that aside from having a bachelor's degree, you must have work experience if you want to apply for the CSR vacancy...not necessarily from the contact center industry.
We had one trainee who was an HR officer and a security and arms salesman...he is now one of us. We have one who has a masters degree and he is also a trainee. I was a former licensed stock broker, stock market analyst giving media interviews, back office support. Got to doing tech[L1 and L2] and CS support through email and voice and now somehow got on this company by a strange twist of fate. I even took all the test in the office of Accenture and not outside as the usual case.
WE APPLY THE UNITED STATES EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYMENT LAW IN OUR PHILIPPINE OPERATIONS. We do not discriminate against anyone. I have seen someone over 40 training here.
pinoynetwit
Oct 10, 2006, 09:35 AM
Just some trivia about our unit:
Our acceptance rate is just hovering around 1.85 percent of those who applied. So do your best on the exams and interview!
We have an ex-AFP[Armed Forces of the Philippines] enlisted personnel[EP] as one of our trainees. The person happens to have call center experience before getting here.
Our ID is one of the oddest looking in the industry - the > "greater than" symbol in silver; no "Accenture" word in our ID just the symbol, our picture and nick name.
We are just about 85 people in training as of now.

pinoynetwit,
After signing a contract with Accenture, can I still back out from it? Likewise, can Accenture unilaterally rescind the employment contract even before the training/first day of employment? It's been a week and I never heard a word from the HR rep to confirm when would be my actual start date.

Bad impression yun agad or baka mablack-listed ako.
May alam ba kayong ibang no. ng Accenture?

I just want to inquire if the basic indicated in the JO is final. I was offered 15.5 K for the base salary and i requested for consideration because i am currently receiving a higher basic pay than what's offered. I am aware that they can offer as high as 17k. I asked Pinky if there would be any consideration and what the factors are for the basic offer, and she said it's the experience. My friend and co-office worker who took the logic exam and was interviewed the same day was offered 17 and we started exactly the same date in this industry. Yes, there are other benefits, but the basic of course plays a big role in determining what we receive every 15th and 30th; and it is the 1k dental, optical and health allowance convertible to cash if we do not consume it by the end of the month? thank you in advance
pinoynetwit

The medical, optical, and dental allowance is not 1k per month; it is reverted every end of the fiscal year and not monthly.
There is also a food and transportation allowance that is rather sizable.

jbla,
OPO PWEDE KA NILANG ILIPAT TO OTHER DEPARTMENTS OUTSIDE OF THE CONTACT CENTER UNIT. SI JOHN CREWS[BIGBOSS NAMIN ANG NAGMALAKI NYAN] THAT IS WHAT WE WERE PROMISED BY THE MANAGEMENT. THAT IS ALSO WHAT THEY BRAG ABOUT THAT WE ARE NOT MERE CALL CENTER AGENTS AND THAT WE WON'T BE ON THE PHONE FOREVER SINCE ACCENTURE HAS SO MANY OTHER BUSINESS UNITS.
KUNG DI NILA SINABI YUN SA AKIN I WOULD HAVE THROWN MY JOB OFFER TO THE DUST BIN AFTER GOING HOME TO EVALUATE BECAUSE I WAS SPOOKED BY THE EMPLOYMENT BOND; AND THE FACT THAT I WAS REALLY NOT KEEN ON WORKING FOR THIS COMPANY IF NOT FOR THE PAY AND THE CHANCE TO WORK IN OTHER UNITS.
well that's very nice promise, any idea kung meron ng instance na meron nalipat sa JSE or other technical department?
curious lang din po ako: so ang basic ng agents is 15.5k on top of that what else pa? twing cut off aproximately magkano nakukuha nyo less tax na?

Iba iba basic namin baka low-end yan. I got the high end of the basic[up to 14th. month pay]....though maraming industries akong pinanggalingan at mataas ang test scores ko[experience plus test scores tingin ko ang basis ng base pay]. Bago pa lang ang Customer Contact Services kaya imposibleng me malipat sa ibang department. Our employee number one here was deployed last August 1. I am employee number 60 something.
The pay is processed this way: Your work from October 1 to 15 will be paid one month after...November 15; medyo matagal. However we were given a free full meal and snack during our training.

Hey guyz esp Accenture peeps. I finished the 40-minute online/phone test (I scored 76/80...minimum acceptable score is 65 points) and went through the intelligence and English tests...which I found easy. I was also interviewed lengthily by a recruitment officer. My question is, do they normally give offers on-the-spot as what some people here claim, or is it possible that they also call you after 2-3 days. In my case, she told me to wait until Monday morning for their call. I'm thinking that I might not have been considered..coz the website and flyers tell that you could walk away with the job offer on the same day..I dunno..I'm just bothered but I won't take if against the company if they find me unsuitable. 'Coz my present job is a good one..and they're wondering why I suddenly decided to shift into a call center job.

It is normal to be made to wait though for a few days.
Accenture has a preference for those that have a deep background in industries that are outsourced.

What is bought is the outsourcing unit not the whole Price-waterhouse-coopers! It's an accounting/consultancy firm you idi*t, which has to have an independent practice owned by partners and cannot and will not be sold any corporate giant. Besides, if you notice the list is not about whose the biggest or what it's who is the most preferred. =)
Anyway, I don't really give a damn. I'm not going to get employed with any of these call centers anyway. Am rejecting Accenture's offer as well. I've been offered a day job that pays twice as much the net of a Team Lead.

BPO LANDSCAPE
CALL CENTERS ARE STILL A HOT SOURCE FOR LOCAL JOBS
BUT OTHER BPO SERVICES ARE ON THE RISE
By David Llorito, Debbie Pepito & Louise Francisco
Research Staff, BusinessMirror, September 27, 2006
The country’s cyberservices industry appears to be undergoing a transformation. According to BusinessMirror’s Job Ad Index in August, not only is the much-ballyhooed sector getting bigger, it is also expanding into other business activities that may soon blur the difference among the different types of outsourcing services.
For August, BusinessMirror’s Jobs Ads Index rose 18 percentage points from its base in June, driven largely by the continuing demand for workers in cyberservices, construction and engineering, manufacturing, and hotels, restaurants and resorts. For the month, total job ads reached 31,177, about 30 percent of which came from the cyberservices sector. In June, the base on which the index is computed, total job ads reached only 26,216, yet even then cyberservices already accounted for a third of the want ads.
Since May, the research staff of the BusinessMirror has been monitoring job advertisements in the Philippines as a way to determine labor demand, business confidence and the performance of the country’s economy in general. Every day, the research staff has been tallying job-ad placements in the Manila Bulletin, the Philippine Daily Inquirer and the Philippine Star, as well as those posted on Internet job sites jobstreet.com.ph, jobsdb.net and bestjobs.ph, classifying the ads by industry and occupation.
This research effort is inspired by the Help Wanted Index developed by the Conference Board, a New York-based nonprofit organization that “disseminates knowledge about management and the marketplace to help businesses strengthen their performance and better serve society.”
Outsourcing transformation
Since 2003, prospects of the cyberservices industry have been constantly reported as being hampered by a skills crunch. Yet results of the Job Ads Index in the last three months continue to buck this observation. In August, for instance, jobs advertisements posted by the sector grew 54 percent from its base in June, an indication of its continuing robustness.
For one, the volume of business at the country’s call centers is constantly expanding. Dell Inc., the American computer manufacturer that operates a call center in Pasay City, for instance, continues to hire call-center agents as it targets to have a 1,400-man labor pool. Currently, it employs 900 call-center agents. Next year, it is set to open another call-center operation to provide additional technical support for US consumers. The new site is expected to take its first customer calls in February 2007. Staffing plans for the new location are already being finalized.
“Our Pasay City team has done an excellent job in answering customer questions and solving their issues, delivering Dell’s outstanding customer experience that comes with the direct relationship between us and our customers. That is a major factor in our decision to expand our investment in the country,” said Richard Hunter, Dell’s vice president for Americas customer experience and support.
Added country manager Michael Garrison: “We continue to exceed growth plans and are focused on improving the customer experience. We need experienced problem solvers who can simplify and resolve increasingly complex technical and customer-care challenges for home consumers.”
Besides Dell, other heavy job advertisers in the cyberservices sector are Ab Systems, Teletech and Advanced Contact Solutions.
But the sector isn’t just about call centers these days, as there is a growing trend toward other outsourcing activities. Although more than half (52 percent) of the 9,192 job ads posted by the cyberservices sector in August were for call centers, hiring activity was also robust in software development and other IT-enabled services (40 percent) and back-office processing (5 percent). The remaining 5 percent of cyberservices job ads were for animation, medical transcription, and engineering design.
And as the scope of services expands, pretty soon it may not be that easy to classify companies as purely call centers. Accenture, for example, which primarily does software development and back-office work, recently opened its own call center, while call centers like People Support have ventured into medical transcription. Client Logic is also venturing into medical transcription.
“I think there will be a convergence of activities,” observes Frank Holz, chief executive of consultancy firm Outsource2Philippines. “A lot of these guys are doing call-center work but they’re also doing BPO [back-office] work for the same client. So on one hand, you’re doing the back-office accounting or you’re doing an HR function. Pretend that somebody has a question about that, they can call in and you got the call-center activity related to that also.”
Holz predicts that although call centers will continue to expand, these companies will eventually venture into other types of BPO work. “The future isn’t as bright [for call centers] as it is for the other types of activities. You might find some arguments on that but that’s how I see it. If you have a certified public accountant doing the books for a company, that’s worth a lot more than a call-center person answering requests for information,” he said.
Perhaps that’s why call centers are now exploring markets other than the English-speaking world. For instance, Link2Support in Eastwood City, Libis, has been posting job advertisements for Korean technical support representatives. The company already has 10 Korean call-center staff.
“The account itself services mostly English-speaking countries but we do have customers in Thailand, Indonesia and Korea, so we thought putting agents who speak other languages was a good idea,” said Raymond Deato, Link2Support’s human-resource specialist for foreign-language accounts. “Koreans, for example, do not speak English that well, so they would really be more comfortable speaking to a technical support representative who can speak Korean.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->
“It’s just harder for us to recruit because we’re a technical support account, so we have to consider an applicant’s technical background,” Deato added. “The others are mostly customer-care accounts, so kahit ano’ng course pwede dun. But we do have Spanish-speaking Filipino agents. Marami naman kasi ang mga mestizo dito. It’s just for the Thai, Indonesian and Korean accounts that we have foreigners.”
Convergys, one of the biggest call centers in the country and a Fortune 500 company, has also been seeking multilingual customer-care representatives, particularly those who can speak Mandarin, Fookien and Cantonese. Emerson, an engineering design-outsourcing firm, was also looking for customer-services associates who are fluent in German, French, Italian and Mandarin for Sykes, Emerson’s call-center partner.
There are also those like Prime@ Technology Specialists Inc. that are seeking helpdesk analysts who can converse in Nihonggo and English, while Nihon Software Outsourcing Vision Inc. is in the market for Nihonggo-speaking finance and administrative assistants.
BPO work has become so popular that several entrepreneurs have ventured into setting up their own call centers out of their homes such as Aicom Solutions (telemarketing), Get-A-Filipino (inbound and outbound calls, data processing and medical transcription), Freedom Telework (back office), Agi (Internet content provider) and Jump2Top (Web development, online marketing).
“We have an office coming up in Ortigas area…but the process is taking time and we need to expand quickly, so we thought that home-based operations would be great for our company,” said Roque Lim, sales and marketing assistant of Aicom Solutions. “We did corrective actions first and tried home-based operations and it worked!”
Lim stressed that this is just temporary but he obviously enjoys the convenience of the present setup.
“It’s so convenient, comfortable and flexible…. I can work in pajamas,” said Lim. “At the same time, you don’t have to have the hassle of traveling, no transportation cost. When you work in call centers, there’s a graveyard shift, and when you go out, it’s kind of dangerous. Working at home, you may feel uncomfortable working graveyard shift but you are safe.”
Factories and hotels
Apart from cyberservices, hiring in the construction and engineering sector also continues to be strong with job placements totaling 5,125 in August, a 22-percent jump from its base in June. As in the last three months, however, the bulk of these jobs—85 percent—are overseas, mostly in the petroleum industry in the Middle East and Nigeria—no doubt an effect of oil money being funneled back into oil and gas exploration, as well as modernization activities by the Gulf states.
The manufacturing sector also continues its hiring binge, with 3,037 job-placement ads in August, an increase of 22 percent from its base in June. Major advertisers include companies in food, furniture and fixtures, printing and publishing, chemical and chemical products, and metals. About 20 percent of the total manufacturing jobs are for overseas positions. In fact, most of the job placements in several industries such as rubber products, petroleum and coal, and nonmetallic mineral products are for abroad.
Business at hotels, restaurants and resorts seem to be doing well, too, given that the job ads in the hospitality industry rose 38 percent in August from its base in June. The continuing rise in visitor arrivals and the ripple effect generated by the outsourcing industry are among the main factors cited by the hospitality industry. The Hyatt group, for instance, is on the hunt for a banquet manager, a restaurant manager, a chef de partie, as well as engineers and accountants.
“This is more in response to the general growth in business demands,” explained Eugene Tamesis, director for marketing at the fairly new Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila. “The manning levels when we started hotel operations in 2004 have grown in line with the demands of the business operations. Now with a fully operating hotel, the manning levels also have to be in accordance with the level of operations in our rooms, food and beverage and other operations.”
Tamesis said Hyatt’s occupancy has been rising since it opened two years ago. He said the hotel’s occupancy was at 51 percent at the end of 2005 and is expecting to increase to 65 percent by the end of this year.
“Our hotel has the highest growth percentage in the industry,” he boasted. “Our figures in 2005 were quite modest compared to the others but this year, we are already performing at the same level as our more established competitors.”
Hotels in the business districts of Makati and Ortigas are enjoying close to 90 percent occupancy, owing to the burgeoning outsourcing industry, sources said. Numerous executives from global outsourcing companies are coming to the Philippines to check on their operations, as well as oversee their training programs, thus boosting hotel business.
“Unfortunately, most of the BPO offices are located in Makati and the Ortigas areas,” conceded Hyatt’s Tamesis. “Therefore, growth from this segment is not expected to be as significant in the Manila Bay area, where none of these types of offices are located. However, we do have bookings from the BPO industry from our ‘Gold Passport’ members, Hyatt’s frequent-guest program, where they accumulate points from the number of stays they make in different Hyatt hotels all over the world. But the numbers are not as significant as compared to our traditional supportive industries belonging to shipping and manpower, embassy, government, pharmaceutical and gaming.”
As in the last three months, the global job market continues to weigh on the results of the Job Ads Index. Overall, a third of the job ads were for overseas. This pattern has been consistent in the last three months.
Besides construction and engineering, more than half of the jobs advertised for sectors like health and social work, nonmetallic mineral products, water transport, air transport were for overseas placements.
Nevertheless, ads for local placements are also on the rise. This largely observed in sectors such as agriculture (154 percent), mining and quarrying (51 percent), games and leisure (23 percent), media and entertainment (87 percent), and advertising and promotions (131 percent).
Even the real-estate sector is also enjoying growing confidence as it posted a 40-percent rise.
“There’s really a continuing recovery in construction and real estate in the last three years,” said Mark Taylor, operations officer of Sterling Construction and Development Corp., which produces prefabricated building materials. “In terms of revenue, we expect to grow 100 percent this year.”
AS AN EXAMPLE, SITEL HAS A NEW ACCOUNT FOR A MEDIA/PUBLISHING COMPANY[AEROSPACE, MILITARY, CONSTRUCTION AND ENERGY] THAT HAS A CS[EMAIL AND VOICE], TECH[EMAIL AND VOICE] AND AN ORDER PROCESSING QUEUE.

Share ko lang:
HI, i would jut like to know if this is for the "Customer Care" position and if your company also accepts undergrads? thanks

mahigpit dito dun sa bachelors degree requirement. Normal to see people here with a second degree or a professional license. The deeper and more diverse the educational and work background here, the higher the chance of getting the high end of the pay.
Yung pre-employment requirements dito ang higpiiiitttttt, pati yung physical exams and character investigation. HAYYYYYYYY

How long does it take for accenture to respond to non-agent applicants? I submitted my application for Call Quality Specialist middle of October thru jobstreet and I still haven't received a call. I have 5 years call center experience, three years as QA.

Isa lang ang location ng ACCS[contact center] between Ortigas and Makati, sa Pioneer, Boni. OPO, lahat may bond sa ACCS, one year. So far DSL support ang only account. We do both inbound and outbound calls[call back].

nope it was not a normal screening process. it was for verification. he asked for the one who referred you? :)
sorry man, i called you because i would just like to make sure that the one who referred you will get the employee referral bonus. were you the one referred by my colleague agnes? i apologize for that, i wasn't able to hear the last few sentences you've said. sorry as well for calling very late that night, i didn't notice the time (i'm on a 1pm - 10pm shift). i usually do call-outs at night esp for non-csr applicants and those who i can't reach in the early part of my shift.
