Disclaimer: I posted the same topic in another Pex forum because I don't know if the topic should be classified under the general category of business venture or under the specific category of call centers.

Hi. My brother-in-law wants to put up an internet cafe that will moonlight as a small time call center at night. Being the techie in the extended family, I was approached for help. I understand the technical side of internet cafe / call center (network setup, VoIP, Open Source PBX, etc.) but don't have a clue on the business side of it.

Final decision will come after a long process of research and analysis but opinions from the players and spectators of the call center industy that regularly visit this forum will still be of great help.

Hope you can answer a few of the following questions:
Are there training centers that give seminars on the issues and trends in the call center industry?
How do you get clients?
Are contracts with the clients, long-term or short-term?
How much is the total investment for 10-15 seats doing in-bound calls only? out-bound calls only? both in-bound and out-bound?
How long do you think is the ROI?
Can a limited-seat center compete with the big boys?
What do you think should be the salary of agents so that it will still be competitive but it won't bleed the business dry?

i know of small centers, they are mostly outbound 15-20 seats. and though i am not privy to their operations and other details i do know of certain individuals who were able to compete with big companies who handles the same clients/accounts and were absorbed by these bigger companies to prevent further competition. in selling out malaki kita nila. yun lang alam ko.
