hi. i'm a fresh grad and i'm new to this whole job hunting business...

i was wondering kung anong etiquette kunyari nagsend out ka ng maraming resume... tapos napick up ka ng isang company na second choice mo... then napick up ka ng first choice mo after... bastos ba kung piliin mo yung first choice and decline the job you got first? of course, this situation rarely happens, but i was just wondering what your thoughts were if this were to occur.

if anyone could also post some job application etiquette (or other advice) so that i could have a clue as to what i'm doing... your help would be much appreciated. :)

If you were offered a job by your 2nd choice and knowing that you have a chance to be hired by your 1st choice, it's OK to ask for some time to think about it since you're weighing in your options.

Companies will usually oblige and give you some time to think about it. And this is normal practice.

However, signing up for a job then later resigns to go for your 1st choice is a no-no.

That situation actually happens a lot. That's why during interviews, you have to control your impulses in answering the question "When can you start?". You have to give yourself time to think and let all that have discussed in the interview sink in. Declining a job offer is okay as long as no contract papers have been signed yet. I have few experiences in this kind of situation where I have to decline the job offer for many reasons such as work mobility, compensation, career growth ,etc. Some companies though are willing to pay the contract you have signed just to get you hired (if you're that good!).

thanks for the advice. :)

i have another question. i'm interested in any of two positions in one of the companies i'm applying for. the application is through email. the positions are quite different from each other. should i send just one email with one cover letter or two separate emails?

State in your cover letter your intent to apply in those 2 different positions. HR will surely pick it up and forward your CV to the departments you wish to apply.
