Aside from Management trainee program of BPI... What do you think about other banks like RCBC,China Bank etc. offering Management Trainee program? Would some one know the salary range and career advancement from these banks?

i'm confused with their management trainee programs. do banks offer management trainee programs only for branch banking? or is it also applicable to the other departments of commercial and trust banking?

Most likely for branch banking, well as far as i know bpi does for their management trainees... Im not exactly sure with other banks... Given a choice i would rather be assigned in head office doing investment banking work...

I would rather be assigned in the head office specifically TRUST & INVESTMENTS DIVISION. I think it's most rewarding for me since at an early age I was already exposed in MUTUAL FUNDS, UITF, STOCK MARKET and other various Investment Vehicles. :)

Yes most of us were or will get to be assigned in one branches nationwide...

I was one of the lucky ones to be picked by the Trust Department. Hard work pa rin but good thing it is very much in line with my passion.

Aside from officer training programs (which are sometimes abused by the commercial banks to feed talented but unwitting college grads into their branches), a good, if not better, place to start a banking career would be the corporate / commercial credit department as a credit analyst like what bluethehero posted. There, one can learn and become immersed in the factors that drive business performance and what managers do to make companies sustainable. After cultivating these skills, credit analysts can pursue many other career options both within and outside of commercial banks. For example, financial analysis and cash flow skills are portable to trust and corporate baking / lending departments. But hard core quantitative analysis skills in general can also be applied to non-banking careers like stock research in investment houses, investment evaluation in merchant banks, consulting / advisory, corporate treasury departments in private companies and corporate planning in conglomerates like Ayala.

Agree with what you are saying Boss Rabs! Many of my fellow OTP graduates would die to get a job in the Treasury / Asset Management group but sadly most of us are thrown into the branches after graduation... What is even more sad is the fact that there is a 3 year bond for us externals (worth 200K)

buti na lang pala di ko inavail yung OTP ng BPI, and di ko na rin tinuloy yung sa Asiatrust at RCBC. Had I not been admitted for work by an i-house, I would have fallen for it.

we can't blame the bank though for sending people to branches. yun kasi ang very much needed.

rabbaddal di mo nabanggit sakin yun. buti na lang talaga natanggap ako ng isang i-house. baka may bond din yung sa iba at sa branch ipatapon.

In fairness, not all commercial banks assign all their management trainees to branches (and working in a branch isn’t always a bad thing, depending on the person’s skills and career interests; some people are really cut out to be successful by starting out in a branch). As you may already know, you can set yourself up for a different position / department by stating your preferred position / department during your management trainee interview and clearly explaining why this is what you want. That way, the HR will know that they can’t fool around with you if they want you to accept their offer. What’s important for fresh grads is to know what kinds of jobs banks offer and which of these jobs they would like to have before they apply and interview.

But like I said, you don’t always have to apply for management / officer training program positions. You can try applying straight into the department you want. And you don’t always have to apply to the big-name banks. Smaller banks like Robinsons Savings or Philippine Business Bank could potentially offer very interesting first jobs for fresh grads, where they can develop skills that will make them more marketable in the corporate world.

That's understandable. This dept. has a large concentration of pretty girls within BPI. :D

you bet. in addition, masyadong mataas ang overhead sa mga bigger banks, mas maraming USELESS HR STAFF (want a proof anyone? I'll share my Metrobank HR story via PM if any of you guys want) na tila di naman talaga lahat ay may complete picture ng commercial banking to be in the position to hire someone for a position, at higit sa lahat, usually, the bigger the banks, the smaller the starting the salary and longer bond coverage if meron.

the smaller banks, on the other hand, have less applicants and more sure opportunities. the applicants are just focused on the company name, and not on the opportunity and their career goals. sa Robinsons bank, nung nagapply ako at yung classmate ko, dadalawa lang kami. during my interview, halos walang tao. pero ok ang mga job offerings, i mean something to really look forward to. and yes, they also have management training program, but they admitted na most probably sa branch talaga ang bagsak nila.

hahaha. *** ha, lagot ka kay Mrs. nyan. hehe. i think enough na ang pagiging fan mo ng isang tennis player (tama ba? saw your post one time sa thread ni daniela)

i dare you to name some. hehe.

by the way, the HR interviewee of mine sa investment bank na pinasukan ko ay pretty, very pretty at mukhang di pa katandaan.

By name, I can remember only 2 since the AMTG group is quite large by itself, within the much larger unibank. Let's call one of them using the codename "Karel" and the other one "Miss T".

Since I live in a largely Russian / Eastern European immigrant neighborhood, I get to see a lot of Sharapova and Hantuchova look-alikes everyday in the sidewalks, subways, bookstores and convenience stores. Di na kailangan sundan ang mga player na yan.

That being said, after making it past the HR bureaucracy, one will find that banks offer some of the best career-enriching opportunities in the corporate job market, especially for fresh grads. It helps if job seekers make their own effort to understand the different job descriptions, which jobs they would be interested in, and which departments are most likely to consider them given their skill level.

If you are interested in a MT position, might I suggest you try HSBC.. If you pass the entrance exam for that, you will be undergoing one year (i'm not sure anymore) and 2-3months out of that year, you'll be trained in UK along with the other MT from other HSBC countries... salary for MT trainee will probably range around Php30k, 15month pay, with performance bonuses also during my stint there. I was told that it was cut down to 13months nalang though.

Once you pass that year, you'll have a car allowance and definitely an increase once you get your new assignment depending on the difficulty of the task. For HSBC managers, salary could range anywhere from Php50k to about Php80k.

The exam though is quite tough... if you've taken the exam for P&G.. it's almost the same.

just my 2cents worth...

good luck!
