purplepearl, if you are referring to BS BAA in UP Diliman, then yes, it is one of the most difficult courses. mortality rate is very high. first year is just like any other student in UP. but it will be in 2nd year where you will find out if you're really into accounting when you face BA 99.1 and BA 99.2, and math 100. like any other course, study, study, study. it's good to have some fear. resting on high school laurels is one of the worst things a college freshman can do. good luck!

Isipin mo din kung gusto mo talaga maging accountant, if not, BA is a very very good course din naman.
Good luck!

Mayaman ang BAA! Haha.. I was one of those who tried to get in, but pathetic me.. Hindi ako pasado. Haha.. It's a great achievement, but an even greater challenge. Live up to it..
Naks, iniinspire lang ang sarili para makapagshift perhaps after a year. I hope so. I think I need some divine intervention. :D

depends on what school you are enrolling. do not expect smooth sailing if you end up at up or dlsu

hello? nacocomprehend mo ba?
purplepearl. good luck sayo.

what i was trying to relay is 'you have to be more serious inside up or dlsu''

Mahirap ang accountancy part ng BAA. Believe me, every sem, more than half the class simulate their required grade for the yet-to-be-given exams to get a 3. in our batch, only about one-third survived BA 114 - the last subject with a grade retention scheme, and still a few of those opted to shift out of the program and be in BA instead. no, surviving the program is not about being intelligent per se (this year's summa cum laude from BA opted to shift out of the BAA program) but rather its about whether you can sustain the passion for the program or not.
enjoy your first and second years, those are the best you can get if you are of the happy-go-lucky type. once you get through BA 99.1 & BA 99.2, breath for a while and thank God if youre still in the program. No, dont let your frustrations/laurels on the said subjects get into your head. i tell you, the next accounting subjects are very much different. i know people who are some of the best in 99.1&.2 but did not manage to survive 114. and still, there are people who suck in 99.1&.2 but curbed 114 fairly easily.
and btw, be sure that you are not hyperacidic because 6-hr exams are a natural occurrence in accounting (i had a 7-hr exam), and you have to finish your quizzes in 3hrs. you bet, the exams are designed so that 6hrs (and 3hrs for quizzes) would just be enough for you to finish, lucky if you get to review the first few parts (that's if you still have the energy to go over evrything).
But dont you worry, you still have a long way ahead of you. if i were a freshie reading my post, intimidation will suck the courage out of me. i WAS not the studying type. but mind you, when you get the knack of it, you'll never know everything is over. i sure did! i just graduated.
my advice: live life one step at a time. enjoy your life and when the BAA program really kicks in (3rd year), just enjoy it. and one more thing, love your batchmates!!! sila lang ang makakaintindi sayo pag tinalikuran ka na ng mundo, haha!

rainmaker5821
Apr 30, 2007, 11:16 AM
I think shifting to BAA is just like shifting to any other course naman.
BTW, about 50% of the last BAA batch came from shiftees, so there.
Well di ako BAA, BA. And I dont say BA "lang." Haha But opkors. Anyway yes, mahirap siya. Pero kung magigive-in ka lang sa takot mo, wag ka na talagang mag-UP. Kahit in the real world, walang mangyayari talaga sa iyo. But if you try and if you give it your best shot, you'll know if the rewards of finishing the BAA program is really for you. And you'll learn na with larger risks e larger returns. Kadiri. Or mag-BA ka na lang. Malay mo para sa Marketing ka talaga or People Management or Information Systems or Operations or... sa maraming masasayang ibang kurso sa buong UP. Basta pumasok ka muna and you'll know what we're talking about. Pero yes again, BAA... be very, very afraid.
