i was on my way to work that night. while on the ride, there were 2 "common" people who were conversing about hunting jobs. (i call them common people cuz i know from the way they speak and the way they look they just came from ordinary schools... in short, sa tabi-tabi lang.)

goin in, forgive me for eavesdropping, i heard one of them saying to apply in a call center instead. the other replied "sus, jan naman sa call center, wlang alam yang mga yan kungdi mag-ingles"

i was like "excuse me?!!!!"

i wanted to butt in and ask, "do you know what you're saying?!!"

i was effin' mad to my boiling point.:grrr:

but instead i kept my cold. i dont want to go down to their level. the fact that they do not know what its really like to work in a call center and what type of environment we go thru everyday, i dont think they should have a nerve to accuse us of being imbecile.

inggit lang siguro sila kase *** silang pera!!!:bop:

I can't blame you for getting mad, but I guess you got to blame it to your several CC employees who are very visible.

Going to work in rugged clothes, smoking almost non-stop and speaking in a foreign language as if they are the best at it and in the end tries to find respect? Yup! an exact formulae for anyone to think that all they know is english.

I think you're just like them.
Just by looking at them you came to the conclusion that they're just ordinary people.
They don't know how it is to work in a call center and you don't know who they are.

You also equate money with success.

Darnstuff, just let them be. Don't expend or waste energy on a useless cause. A lot of times totoo naman eh.

I have been in the call center industry for 1.5 years and have met call center agents who are superficial and dumb (who can't appreciate intelligent conversation about history, geography, culture, politics, the news, sports, martial arts, etc.). They would rather talk about their latest gimik at Prince of Jaipur or Embassy and the Bench underwear models they met at their friends' condo. I noticed those types of call center agents come mainly from 2 or 3 call centers based in Makati.

So let them be. Ngumiti ka na lang and rant by yourself. :)

you guys have good POV's...

all i know is our work shouldnt be tagged as for "no brainers".

you should know exactly what i mean, especially for those who has been in this industry for quite some time. it aint easy to detach your self in every call and endure every customer's ranting...

i just think its totally unfair... thats all.

ok lang yan. i feel the same since i worked in a cc for 2 and 1/2 years. i know what it's like being the "punching bag" of customers and stuff. though im no longer working in a cc, i admire cc agents who withstand the pressure of the industry. deadmahin mo nalang mga walang magawa.

I think its normal for call center people to talk about about mundane and "light" topics as a way of destresssing from work.

At first, I felt that going with these people is intellectually degrading since my usual friends prefer shop talk/technical talk about our hobbies, trading in the stock market/macro and micro-economics[ I needed it to make trading decisions with my own money], politics[I worked with political operatives], carpentry - but I have to get along with these low-life intellectual scums[as some snotty people would put it] since I find their shallow talk rather helpful too in destressing. I also needed their sense of humor.

Perhaps the main culprit is the perception of CC agents are just biological answering machines. I recall, there was a story on this section, that an agent got permission from his boss to allow a friend who has been critical of being a cc agent to try to being one. After some preliminary briefings and having a buddy accompany him during calls, tumupi yung kaibigan ng agent bago matapos yung shift and he gained an insight na mahirap pala maging agent.

i agree with xwirex... our neighbor call center has an employee who comes work in white-washed jeans with matching holes, a shirt na parang hahabulin ng plancha, and slippers na as in tsinelas talaga itoh... he's prominent to me because his outfit doesn't change... it's like he's not going to work...

onting effort naman jan...

diba nga, "If you want respect, you've got to earn it"

totoo naman *** sinabi nya na english nalang ng english! bka nag over react ka lang.. no ablar ingles?? hehehe

alangan naman mag intsik2x-an ka, or arabo kung gusto mo..

pero u also have a point! hehehe

kasi, di lang din naman dun natatapos ang trabaho natin..
selling skills sa mga outbound sales agent..
IT skills naman sa mga tech agents..

pero bottom-line, we are still call center employees, working in a graveyard shift, sacrificing our health for the sake of MONEY.. (or our future, bka magalit *** iba eh.)

(rock)

some points and questions...
Casual dress code originated from those geeks who started the .com industry.
Mastering the english language (with the right usage, of course) qualifies as one of the 7 recognized forms of intelligence.
Have you tried taking tech calls for Dell?
Preference to converse in lightweight topics does not indicate your degree of intelligence.

Wag tayo masyadong defensive. I'm sure a lot of us would leave our jobs if we had the choice or option to do so.;)

Hindi naman problema ang light conversation eh. Ang problema is when people are superficial and shallow as to their assessment of other people. When they can't go beyond surface appearances and obviously can't appreciate what "is invisible to the eye".

huwag mo nalang silang patulan

my friends look at it the same way. sinasabi ko lang, pag nakapasok kayo sa call center. after a month, tell me the same thing.. hahaha..

and after a month.. mga umiiyak sila sa calls. hahahahhaa!
