dear pexers,

badly need advice from you guys ...

Currently, I am a DBA and databases handled are Sybase, MS SQL Server and Oracle. I have plans on working abroad (probably asian countries singapore, malaysia, etc) , to pursue my interest in working as a full-pledge DBA (specially Oracle). Just last week, someone from a multinational company called and asked me if I'd be interested to join their team. Their building a SAP team and they'll be providing training on ABAP and BASIS. Asked me on what particular field I'd be joining but honestly, I still have to do my research on both (ABAP and BASIS). My dilemma is, if i want to pursue my dba career (specifically outside of the country) and turn down the SAP thinge, would I be missing a BIG opportunity?

P.S. the person also told me that they need people to handle the migration of databases that SAP uses (from informix to Oracle etc)

what are the other big opportunities on the table for you?

I think you are lucky and in the right path.

Hi DMX,
Are you referring that I join the SAP team and set a low priority for Oracle? :)

^yes, unless you are certain that 'going abroad (Asia)' is a big opportunity and i mean that Job (Oracle) w/ good pay is waiting for you. sa akin lang yun.

The bottom line is ikaw parin ang magbabalansi para makabuo ka ng desisyon. marami kang itatanong sa sarili mo.

what's your up to, you are going abroad for new challenges or for economic opportunity or career growth?

do u have family here or binata ka pa?

Both are good career paths which are in demand internationally. How much experience do you have as a DBA, specifically on Oracle? What role would you play on the SAP team? The majority of SAP's Install Base runs on Oracle.

DisconnectedMX: nah, i don't have my own family yet and I want to try working in asian countries like Singapore both for economic opportunity (IT people in other countries are compensated well then IT people here di ba?)as well a growth (to learn and experience new technologies not present here)

wish i could hit two birds with one stone :)
