Ever saw a job title/description that maked you scratch your head? Made you admire what they were doing, perhaps?

One title I'm curious about is the VP for Corporate Affairs. What does this person do? Seems to me like the company spokesperson? Press relations?

Title I would like for myself as an employee :D

CTO (Chief Technology Officer)
VP Engineering
Chief Architect

Of course being on the board of directors is not bad. Though I don't find myself Chairman quality

Speaking of chiefs, we have:

CEO
COO
CFO
CTO
CIO

what else?

I'm a Managing Director.

But I wouldn't mind being known as "Grand High Mufti in charge of Global Domination." :)

We used to operate Q-Zar, a laser tag game, at the Shangri-La Plaza until 1997. The name of the company is Zarq Adventures Philippines, Inc.

My title then was Chief Science Officer.

That's probably the best, title I'll ever hold in my life. It's certainly the one I love most.

Corporate Affairs usually refers to non-financial administration, and typically includes public relations, industry relations, legal, and (sometimes) human resources.

Not many CSO's locally. I usually see these in real tech companies like say, Cisco Systems. CTO's are a little more common.

Thanks for the info on Corporate Affairs.

I think that Yahoo (Or was it AOL?) has this position called Vice President of Cool. Now that's really new economy if you ask me.

Speaking of Yahoo, I believe founders Jerry Yang and (David?) Filo are both called Chief Yahoo.

I've also heard of the title Chief Knowledge Officer, who is in charge of the company's intellectual property (patent and copyright enforcement and protection) as well as licensing of technologies.

I'll check the stack of calling cards here. I think Trapik.com and Divisoria.com have different job titles, something like a Chief Tindero. I'll post it later. :)

I just remembered that Bill Joy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:SUNW) is also Chief Science Officer (Chief Scientist, actually). Which now makes me realize I am not worthy of my title.

About the only other thing Bill and I have in common is that we attended the same university (Bill is BS, Electrical Engineering, 1975). But his company is one of the largest in the technology sphere, and my company has gone down the tubes. :(

Dec 25, 2000, 12:59 AM
That wasn't my idea, but I believe that (Star Trek) is where the Q-Zar guys got the title. It's even written in the franchise agreement - every franchisee must designate a Chief Science Officer. :)

Some time ago, IBM appointed a Chief Privacy Officer.

So, how many layers are there from the top to the bottom at your organization?

I am a teacher with other hobbies that take more time than teaching. I mix drinks in parties, I play violin (more Stephane Grappelli than Itzhak Perlman), I write "praise releases" of movies in broadsheets and tabloids.

I also do my own carpentry and repainting job. I can pass as a plumber. I swim in competitions in highschool, but now I swim like a salamander. I can juggle four oranges (with disastrous results sometimes).

zimdude: i had my practicum with the corporate affairs dept. of ayala corp. the department was headed by a managing director (at that time, it was Vicky Garchitorena).

Under her were I think five more sub-departments. This included corporate communications, media relations, community relations, events, and another one which i forgot.

Corporate Affairs, in general, deals with communication activities within and outside the organization.

job titles

with the number of "new" jobs popping up, several job titles are also being created. e.g. events manager, corporate communicator, etc.

Doesn't ACTUARY have something to do with insurance products? Are you working for an insurance company? The actuarial dep't is supposed to ensure that the products of the company are competitive (for clients) and profitable (for the company). They are also in charge of coming up with new products for the company.
