Is TrendMicro Inc. a Great Company to work for?

I've been seeing their ads for quite sometime now and i would like to give it a try. I just want to know more about this company. Do any pxers work at TrendMicro? what can you say about your company? how's the work environment there?

For Trend employees-> do you enjoy working there? Want to know about the perks, salary, bosses, peers? Anything worth sharing?

some of my friends went there after graduation (98), and i think they have a nice time there as virus engineers. some of them are still there i think, so it means there's a good bet that company's ok. they send onsites too.

TrendMicro is the maker of PC-cillin, an anti-virus program. I believe most of you have heard of this anti-virus.

They have very good Anti-Virus Engineers there.

I remember when a classmate of mine went there for an panel interview, they asked him to do assembly programming on the spot (on the white board).

I don't personally know anyone working in Trend Micro, though the impression that I got during our job fair was that the work there is really technical, as in hard core programming :lol:

When I was looking for a job though, a friend suggested that I apply because he knew someone who accumulated PhP 10 million due to stock options after 3 years of working there. I didn't try to apply though, wasn't really in my line of interest.

Tough company I'd say but it's worth the risk because the benefits are great! MARYOSEP! Nakapasa ka na nga sa exam at interview eto at meron na naman isang malaking balakid!

hello...about Trend Micro, hmmm, may nakapagsabi sa akin na kapag nag-apply ka itatanong daw sa iyo kung mahilig ka sa gimiks or whatever, kasi you have to work overtime dun, parang di ka na daw makakalabas, yun para ka bang seminarian, naka-based ka lang dun. pero if you're thinking of the benefits and incentives, A-OK siya!!! SOBRA!!!!

I have a buddy who works for TrendMicro. I'm not particularly sure what his position is but I know he goes to plenty of company-sponsored business trips to the States.

I was offered a job there but I turned it down because another company offered me a higher salary. It's OK to work there. The tests are a bit hard, especially their 3-super-technical test. To prepare for their interview, I had to review. Imagine, during my first interview, the interview asked, "I have 2 workstations and 1 server. Configure a network for me." Fortunately, I passed the interview and was offered a job on the spot.

Their most popular product is PC-Cillin, but the company concentrates on coming up with antivirus solutions at the gateway level. That's why Trend holds 54% of the market in gateway antivirus software.

I learned a lot, and still am. The pay? I'll get to that later....

The test is a bit tough, although I've taken more difficult exams in other comapnies before. As for the interview, yes, you might have to code a program on the white board.

Good luck on your exam. Madali pakisamahan mga tao dito. Lahat dito nagtutulong-tulungan. As for work load, gaya nga ng sabi ko, marami-rami e. Usually hindi naco-compensate ang OT sa office. Pero give it a shot. Kanya-kanya lang namang trip yan e. Kung oks lang sa iyo *** ganoon, e di enjoy!

Oo meron... I mean technically, madaming opportunity to learn new stuff, and there are lots of equipment you can practice on. And if you feel like becoming an MCSE or taking some other certification exam, Trend will shoulder the expense if you pass.

Gusto ko lang i-point na it's not as great as it looks on the outside. Hindi kita masisisi na sabihin yung mga sinabi mo kasi ganun nga talaga ang dating kapag hindi ikaw yung nasa loob ng kumpanya. Pero pag nasa loob na, may mga bagay na hindi na kanais-nais. Maraming nag-aalisan lalo na last week - hindi lang sa Pinas, pati sa ibang site.

I'm currently based here at the Global HQ of an international PC-brand in Taipei. TrendMicro's Global HQ is also here in Taipei. It's a Taiwanese company, for all you know.

Here in Taipei, TrendMicro is not really known for giving out high salaries to its employees. In fact, it's not up to par with US-based multinational companies, not even with my company, which is also Taiwan-owned. But basically, AngryBird was right in pointing out that the pay windfall comes from the company's stock. Out here in Taiwan, TrendMicro is considered one of the stellar performers in the stock market. It's a hot issue, I tell you! ;) From what I heard, employee turnover in that company out here is also high. Of course people are aiming for higher salaries rather than the fringe benefits. The company though is known to be actively pursuing the development of its employees knowledge-wise. In terms of its organization, it's considered well managed, trying its best to be the leader in its field.

anyway, i bet trend micro is still a better place for growth and experience. its just a matter of how you see things and how you handle them. every company has its ups and downs, all you need is stick to your goals and go whererever u can be happi. :)

I find it weird though cuz i know someone who works there and seems like a really great place to work at. the whole compensation packge and benefits plus the training and all... it's probably the best company to work for in my opinion. high paid naman this person i know who works there and may increase pa upon regularization. i wanted to work there too if only IT person ako bt hindi eh. i tried applying for a non IT position; although i passed the exams, i dont think i got the job since i didnt hear from them for an interview. sniff sniff. =(

gemyl: the test is composed of three parts: the IQ test or the qualifying exam, the personality test and the technical test. sa IQ, may time yun and mahirap sya. mind boggling talaga! personality test is an essay asking you abt typical questions like ur strengths, weaknesses, goals...etc. the technical wa na ako alam since i applied for the non IT but i was told na they allow you to text so bka you can text abt the questions you dont know heheheheh. good luck ha. let me know the results. =)

Nag aaral nga ko ngayon eh, kasi nagbigay sila ng pointers for the technical! pero un IQ hmmmm.....di kaya dun ako bumagsak....hehehehe.....pero ala naman bubuti kundi ang mag aral at magpractice, anyway ala namang mawawala sa akin eh, in fact mag gain pa ko :D so whatever the result is chika ko sayo. pero sana maganda! :)

IQ test quite hard! I was surprised I even passed! As in shocked pa nga eh! =) You can study for the technical but nt for the IQ test cuz it's more like an analytical test wherein you analyze the pictures given and match it with the right figure. (it's like a puzzle, you have to choose which one yung matching pair nya); then there is the series part wherein you have to choose which figure comes next; not your ordinary series test!!! (2 parts ata of the test series test) The pulley test is a tricky one, have to guess if say ball a was turned to the right, would ball B and/or C go clockwise or counterwse..etc. unfortunately i cant seem to recall what the fifth part of the test is. :o sorry! basta i know we all came out of the testing room feeling like our IQ's so low! heheh. But thank God i passed although seems like I am not good enuf to land an interview. :(
I just resigned from my job and am currently lookin for a job actually. heheh. I find my previous job boring and no room for career growth. Bka you know anywhere that's hiring? Have been checking out newspapers and jobsites too. No luck yet. oh well.

I have lived in canada before and so has my husband so going back there would not be hard. However, I have a baby already and my in laws wouldnt want us to leave. Their first pa naman! :) If it's not God's will that I work, probably that means sa business ako. I prefer nga to have a business so I can have more time for my baby. Mga tipong sidelines ok din.

pag virus engineer ka sa trend, ang work mo is mag analyze ng viruses.. virus patterns, sysmptoms, and study ways to combat/remove the virurs. prepare data files etc. :)
programming? maybe.. but most of the time.. debugging..

hi.ive asked them the same question and they told me that they are constantly recruiting people because they are doing some expansions of some sorts..kse they have this 24 hours support team ata e..but im not sure though. ive heard some good things about them too..ok daw *** benefits..dami din daw incentives..on employees turnover??well. i think kaya madami naaslis is because d daw nila na memeet *** standards ng trend micro..whew!hope i pass the interviews!grabe me english exams pa huh.wish me luck!:)

I'm not from Trend Micro. Sorry. But I know one Pinay working there, who wanted to recruit us but we declined. The salary offer is not that yummy! ;)

I used to be an assembly language guru in college. Our project in College used a TSR that was like a FOSSIL (fido opus seadog system interface layer) that managed RAS DTMF communications. But I did not pursue assembly but rather concentrated on Data Comms because of what I mentioned...

Tol ang payo ko sa yo, i-try mo dahil maganda sa CV ang tatak ng trend. Iwasan mo lang sa antivirus department dahil patay na ang career path mo pag andun ka. Mahirap makabawi dahil konti lang AV development firms. Gusto mo ng magulo pero maraming matutunan at maganda sa CV kung aalis ka sa trend, punta ka sa MIS department. Maraming openning dun ngayon kasi umalis ako (senior engineer) at yung partner ko (second in-line sa MIS design) at aalis pa ata ibang MIS engineers dahil sa ginawa nila sa kin. Mahirap nga lang ang exam though, hindi naman sa pagmamayabang, "A" ang grade ko sa exam ko dun. So I suppose attainable naman ang exam kung alam mo lang talaga ang theories & practical applications. Email mo ako kung gusto mo ng tips sa exams ng Trend. Ako yung guinea pig ng exam na yun eh.

funny how i just dropped by a friend who was browsing through your site. yup, im here in the office right now, at the company you're all curious about.

i've been with three companies now, and let me just give you an idea:
1st company - 3 yrs. farthest that i've got? cebu.
2nd company - 1 yr. ISP (quite big too) where did they send me? marikina and antipolo. the pay? dont even ask.

this is my 3rd company right now. i'm looking at it as being the last, unless they approve my transfer to the US office, where i'll be part of the US head count.

i hope i dont sound like bragging, but that's what really is the situation with regards to the oppurtunities available to me right now.

after just 3 mos of training, they sent me to germany for 3 mos. all expenses paid. it was hard work, but heck, the per diem alone was more than sufficient. plus the experience of going abroad was more than worth it.

i got back here. after around 8 mos, they sent me to the US. for 4 mos.

got back here, then after 6 mos, they sent me to malaysia for a week (i delivered a training to resellers and partners).

got back here, then after a month, they sent me to singapore for a week again (another training).

after i got back here, they offered me two alternatives: go to the US and be part of the US office (on H1 visa) with potential green card status. OR, stay here, and assume another role(uhm, position).

and all that in a span of 2 yrs.

so, if you're concerned about oppurtunities, then that should answer your question.

you've heard about stocks? well... =) that's all ive got to say.

compensation? true, some companies can still afford to give a higher salary. big companies that is. but as far as i know, compared to the guys ive been in college with, im pretty much in a good category, salary-wise that is.

some complain about hard work. well, to each his own, i guess. some might say it's hard work, but to some, like me, that's what you call challenges.

and the gimiks? heck, i just go downstairs, walk a few meters, and im in the heart of Eastwood, THE PLACE, these days. and YES, we do have fun.

Pretselz's right, there really are a lot of opportunities in Trend especially for newly grads. You get to travel abroad, you could have stock options, free certifications and above all (Hek hek hek!), which for me is most important (Hek hek hek ulet!) is you get to learn a lot of new stuffs-- like different OS's, mail severs... etc, etc....

But of course, the employee still has the other side of the ball... Kaya kailangan pa din sipag at tyaga... :-)

after i got back here, they offered me two alternatives: go to the US and be part of the US office (on H1 visa) with potential green card status. OR, stay here, and assume another role(uhm, position).

and all that in a span of 2 yrs.

so, if you're concerned about oppurtunities, then that should answer your question.

you've heard about stocks? well... =) that's all ive got to say.

compensation? true, some companies can still afford to give a higher salary. big companies that is. but as far as i know, compared to the guys ive been in college with, im pretty much in a good category, salary-wise that is.

some complain about hard work. well, to each his own, i guess. some might say it's hard work, but to some, like me, that's what you call challenges.

and the gimiks? heck, i just go downstairs, walk a few meters, and im in the heart of Eastwood, THE PLACE, these days. and YES, we do have fun.

ano ba starting salary sa trend micro?

i took the iq exam last sat and passed the test... then went on to the technical exam. and essay exam. di ko pa alam result... pero confindent ako na papasa... :D oh btw, i applied for Jnr Sys Eng.... pero di pa ako gradudate eh... sept pa... pero thesis na lang... pwede bang mag-work sa trend na walang pang degree? kahit thesis na lang yung wala? pero syempre tatapusin ko yung thesis ko while working (kung possible heheh :D)

to cut this thread short, those who want first hand info on trend micro in philippines, I and my partner (who was a pioneer there) in Trend before, and we both have around 3 yrs at trend, are willing to drink away and chat with you. Just talk it among yourselves, set the place & date. I will ask him to come. Things we can share with you:

- negative aspects
- positive (oh yes kahit na masama loob ko meron din positive)
- entrance to technical exam (eto I can give you FIRST hand info kasi ako ang guinea pig ng exam na ito)
- and a lot of tips once you get in, take the qualification exams, pass your probi period, contracts etc

btw, I did not have a 2 1/2 years binding contract at trend.

sana naman kung mai-set ninyo, ilibre ninyo na lang kami kahit na tig-2 bote lang ng pale pilsen.

hey guys, iisa lang ba ang nag-iinterview for AV position, the same person? i want to apply ulit, nkpass nko sa tech exam b4 but nagbackout ako when i learn na halos debugging lang *** yung gnagawa nila. ndi ako ganun k-practical b4 bwiset. nkkhiya lang kc if sya rin yung magiinterview sakin.. feeling pasado pa rin ako.. :D sana lang ndi nya ko maalala, bilib din kc ako dun k mr. kevin rabago, grabe memory niya..!!

Just curious, can anyone name the salary range at Trend Micro? So many people have been asking but no amount has been specified. Kahit range lang. PM ninyo na lang ako kung ayaw ninyo pa rin i-post yung salary range...

I just finished my English proficiency exam kanina, this is the first company I applied to that has so many exams. I'm now waiting for the results of the english exam (which is supposedly the last na daw, sana...).

balita oks nmn ang Trend- multinational company- kaya siguro, di bababa ng 10K (di pa kasama and allowance/incentives)

tip lang- aral ka ng assembly language, program tracing, C++ and VD programming at debug- doon ako nakatay eh :(

But hear this, Trend gives its employees salaries that are way above the min. salary in PH.... plus the allowances. Trend doesn't give min-based salaries kasi technical yun work dito... =)

Sana may natulong tong mga pinag-sasabi ko... but, i guess ndi pa din... kasi la pa din akong binigay na figures....... hehehe! Soweeee... =)

Marami na namang ads ang trend sa Jobstreet at JobsDB pati na sa sunday edition ng Manila Bulletin. Eh nung umalis ako halos puno na ang 14th & 15th floors. Bakit kaya hiring na naman? Marami na naman bang nag-resign? Bakit maraming nag-resign? ... esep esep sa mga applikante...

Pinaka-mataas na position ng trend philippines pinatulan ang security guard ng building. Ayun nawalan ng trabaho ang kawawang sekyu. Kahit na engineer lang ako, at may kasalanan sa akin ang isang sekyu dahil na rin sa katangahan ko sa elevator, di ko siguro papatulan ang sekyu na ito na may mababang kaalaman para mawalan siya ng trabaho... naturingang manager ka pa naman tapos magpapaka-baba ka sa level ng isang sekyu??? hmmm.... kung ang manager mababaw, baka mahawa pati ang mga matitinong rank & file...

:( Oo nga- medyo uncalled for nga yun- pero, it's also a given na walang perfect organization- kahit saan ka nmn pumunta eh- may mga kup@l sa management.

Sa dati ko ngang company (before I joined Trend)- nambabato ng Manager yung may ari ng kumpanya tuwing meeting- manager na, binabato ng donut, ballpen, o kaya yung nilukot na reprt ng pobreng mababato.

At BTW- di nawalan ng trabaho yung sikyu- na transfer lang ng assignment. :)

pero may mga flaws...

one: the increase is performance based. at kung na-tiyempo ka sa "koopal" na bossing, yari na ang increase mo. and the performance basis points seem to be unfair (about 50%). tignan mo dami na namang mawawala dahil sa performance.

two: no definite accross the board increase. so kahit na 8% per anum ang inflation sa bilihin as per NSO, malamang lugi ka kasi mas mababa ang increase mo diyan. unless sipsip ka sa mga hindi-pinoy na bossing.

three: since ganun ang method, OK kung binata ka. pero once nag-asawa ka na, never mind na lang. no comment. sigurado ako hindi sapat para bumuhay ng pamilya.

four: mataas talaga ang pay nila compared with local IT firms like ISPs. but compared with international firms (like where i am right now which is my previous company before trend) eh malayo sila. ang starting sa amin dito is 2x than that of trend for the same level/position. yung suweldo nila eh katumbas lang ng technician dito. sabi nila dahil daw may stock options. eh ano kaya maipag-mamayabang ng trend ngayon ang stocks eh negative ang price niya sa offered price as per nikkei (4704) at nasdaq (TMIC)?

five: at hindi lang iyon, mataas nga sa trend pero the work... the work is... no comment na lang... itanong na lang natin kay corin at kay agee kung paano ang work:pay ratio.

I weigh mo na lang ang options- at i calculate mo ang cost-benefit ration, at risk factor. :)

Atchaka, hindi naman ng tao pare-pareho ang experience sa workplace- may iba na tra traumatize, may iba enjoy, may iba shocked.

It's a matter of paradigm and attitude :p

Basta babala lang- mahirap ang work dito, kung gusto mo ng challenge- dito ka na ;)

eniwei, it's my 5th month here at trend..masaya? hmmm, depende kung paano mo dadalhin ang trabaho mo. personally, m not happy since non-IT position ang nabagsakan ko..nawawala ang skills ko..and i have no time to study since nauubos ang oras ko sa ginagawa ko.

i have my own share of frustrations here..ang nakaktuwa na lang dito, malapit ako sa gimikan at dun ako nagpupunta tuwing break time ko sa gabi..and *** iba naman, *** P1 worth na sodas in can...;)

meron kaming openning ngayon, IT Network Group Team leader. Tignan mo na lang sa jobsdb at may ad kami duon. kaso minimum 5 years experience. less than that, sorry. Ang position na ito ay ang magiging supervisor ko. and the technical ability is very high. iniiwasan ko kasi na mas mababa siya ng technical ability kesa sa'kin because it entails a lot of network design at the international level. another requirement is the people management ability. Ang IT manager ang bahala duon. but you really have to pass the technical exam and my technical interview bago ka ipasa sa IT manager.

As for tips on technical ability, all I can tell you is that I took 2 technical exams in Trend in 1998 (the standard technical exam for engineers and a special exam made by the current regional director). I scored A in my Trend exams. The exam is here is more difficult than that of Trend.

4 months na akong naghahanap at wala pa akong napupusuan sa mga naga-apply. Maybe you can be the lucky one. The salary, name your price. And we mean it... unlike a company there in IBM plaza bldg.

Trend Micro is used to be one of the best companies to work for. They have great benefits (salary is not that high as compare to other companies like SPL, Andersen) where one can grow professionally. However, recently i heard not-so-nice-about the environment in Trend.

So yun mga gustong magapply sa Trend Micro, pagisipan nyo muna ng maigi. :rolleyes: Mahirap na kapapasok lang e, after 3 or 6 months, or even 1 year, (or kahit sabihing pang 3 years ka na sa company) pa-re-resign ka ng boss mo.

This is what i got: If it the management hates you, no matter how good you are, they will find ways to kick you out.:mad: May isang empleyado pagpasok sa office to do his/her usual work, sinabihan na boss, "this is your last day, good bye". Tama ba naman yun? wala mang lang pasabi...

Honestly, pagisipan nyo muna kung gusto nyong magwork sa TrendMicro. My friend got fired. Hindi man lang sinabi kung ano ang dahilan at pinaresign sya. :( Tama ba naman yun?

currently, may trabaho ako ngayon sa dito sa may ortigas, kaya lang kumuha ako ng test dyan sa trend dahil malaki daw sweldo dyan..
i have a 12k salary a month on my job right now.. could anyone pls tell me if it is still worth it if i would show up on my interview at trend dahil gusto ko sanang maghanap ng mas malaking salary e.
is it worth sacrificing my job now??

hmmm... the salary? well, just read the previous threads... saintluci has described the things that you have to expect from Trend with regards to salaries and benefits... and i can assure you, the pay is good.. well, at least that's for starters.. d ko alam pag nagtagal na...

all i can say now is to weigh your options... life is full of sacrifices and risks... it might not just be your job that you are sacrificing... think about it!

weigh your options.. dont shift just because of salary, think also of the job - the kind of work they are going to give you. also will they guarantee you a job for at least a year? :)

honestly, i dont think you should work at TrendMicro. They would give you nice-to-hear-benefits and fringes, pero once you are in, those benefits? -- it would be blah blah blah blah...

Do you think it's any different in other companies?

There is no "perfect" company and "perfect" management- every corporation has its flaws.

I'm sure every company has it's own "horror" story.

But the case is point here is, look at the general picture. If the risks outweigh the potential benefits- and you are willing to risk it- be my guest- otherwise- you can always join a government agency.

And- in the case of your friend- he/she might be the exception, not the rule. :p and I'm sure your friend did not tell you the entire story.

OK ba sa Trend Micro...hmmmmm?

Narinig ko lang to sa friend ko from Trend, kse binalak ko din mag apply about a month ago. Actually nung una daw, when the Company is just starting, ok na ok daw sya. Maganda ang training, then if you take certification exams such as MCSE, etc, they will pay the expense pag pumasa ka, walang dress code (ganun pa din naman ngayon e, kaya lang nde na daw pede short pants unlike noon). Salary and other benefits such as stock options ok din daw dati, pag pasok mo bibigyan ka na agad. maraming travel opps. wala din na-h-hire na contractual dati, probationary agad then regularization na, and most of all daw, dati malapit sila sa SM MegaMall. (nakakapanood daw sila ng movie during lunch time since 1 1/2 hrs ang break).

Pero ngayon..ganito na daw. unang una, malayo na sa MegaMall..stock option based sa performance na lang daw, then almost all newly hired daw ngayon are contractuals..then ang worst daw sa lahat is pag nakikita nila na tumataas na ang sweldo ng isang regular employee.. hahanapan daw ng butas para maalis sya.. (oo nga naman, yung monthly na ipinapasahod dun sa taong yung ay kasya sa monthly salary ng 2 or 3 na contractual. ).

Nung narinig ko yun, i change my mind, wag na lang kse naisip ko wala palang security pag nag work ka dun e.

yun lang ang sabi sa kin ng friend ko from there, pero kung gusto nyo ng challenge, ituloy nyo.
