They say that when you're a teacher, salary shouldn't really matter because it's not like you can expect something big anyway. But what about people who really want to teach but want a decent life as well?
Which preschools or grade schools pay higher than minimum wage and how much exactly?

teaching is a vocation not a profession ..............

yup, unfair naman i-judge yung mga private school teachers na pera lang habol nila. Kailangan din naman ng teachers ng mga private schools, saka nagtuturo rin naman sila (at least most of them)
Sa public school, the lowest salary is for the entry level or Teacher 1, who has a salary of P9,939 per month.

Actually, may times na mas malaki sweldo ng public school teachers. dati i was getting less than 5 digits sa isang private preschool every month but balita ko na may isang public elementary school dito sa amin na 15k per month ang sweldo sa teachers. so i guess it really depends. minsan mas maraming benefits ang public school teachers kasi pag may increase in salary through some law that was passed, public usually ang affected and bihira lang affected ang private school teachers.

teaching is a vocation not a profession ..............
.
Yes, that's a good quote for people enticing teachers to subsidize the true cost of a quality education. As if when you choose teaching, you have also taken a vow of poverty, and you don't deserve to live a decent and livable life.
It is not true that the government is subsidzing the public schools, it is the public school teachers that subsidizes public education. Then some officials from DepEd & CHED will come to your school, extolling the teachers how great they are after being maltreated with low salary.
Then we try to live with catchy slogans, ang galing ng pinoy, iba ang pinoy, etc., as if magaling ang pinoy because of the system, when in fact magaling ang pinoy inspite of and despite the system. Sigh...

It's funny that our country doesn't take better care of teachers, both public and private school ones. Funny because teachers are one of the most needed professionals out there. From the age of 3 or 4 up to the age of 21 or even beyond for people who are taking MAs and PhDs, we are in constant contact with teachers. Without teachers, learning the other professions would be harder. Without good teachers during our early years, who knows if we would have developed as well as we have. Teachers are like second parents. Pero sa bagay, it's always the people who are constantly there and working extra hard to help mold the mind and the heart that are taken advantage of and not really given their due. Just take a look at housewives or mothers who stay at home. People always say na, "Housewife lang nanay ko." They don't realize that mothers have one of the hardest jobs ever. Much like teachers.

Be it a big or a small pre-school, the salary is pretty much the same. I'm a pre-school teacher working in a big pre-school (tuition fee is 70+ thousand) and my salary is less than 10k. What a sad fact. I love teaching but I cannot live with that kind of salary. That's why I'm leaving this line of work when the schoolyear ends =( Big schools pay higher because they have 40 students per class as compared to pre-schools wherein the normal teacher:student ratio is 1:16.

I've just passed the board exam for teachers last August and I was planning to get a job on the field of education next school year. Though, my parents are a bit sarcastic about the fact the I still want to enter that kind of profession even if the salary is really not that good. I can't work in public schools because I'm a public official. Someday, I'm hoping to practice this profession. But I guess for the mean time, I'll be looking for a job in the corporate setting again.

It actually saddens me for the fact that I'm leaving my job for financial reasons. If you dont teach in a big school, your salary is not enough to suffice your financial needs. Though I'm happy with what I'm doing, still we have to weigh the pros and cons. And it all boils down to one point: Happiness cant buy you money.

Yes, St. Benilde pays well compare to DLSU-Taft. Even if you teach the same subject in both schools, St. Benilde pays P100 more per hour. The rate differential is called HAZARD PAY. If you take your teaching profession seriously, baka atakehin ka sa puso.

Huwag kang maingay, I am just trying to sympathize with teachers in the elementary, high school & college level. Kasi I still prefer to teach in college & review center than in the graduate school. If only schools can pay the graduate school rates, masaya sana.
