Rules for digital TV out next week

THE National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will issue next week the revised guidelines for digital television service for the country, including the technology platform that will be adopted by the broadcast industry.

NTC commissioner Ruel Canobas said the technical working group (TWG) on digital TV, which witnessed the demonstration and propagation tests of each of the competing standards being used in other countries, will submit its final position paper in the next few days.

This, even as experts from America in Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) technology have yet to conduct a demo test broadcast of its own technology platform.

The NTC has to pick a technology standard that will be adopted by the broadcast industry in offering digital TV service.

America’s Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), Japan’s Integrated Services Digital Broadcast (ISDB) and Europe’s Digital Video Broadcast Handheld, or DVB-H, are the three technology standards being considered by the NTC to jump-start the transmission of digital television service in the country.

So far, Japanese and European experts have already conducted their respective demo tests.

“For some reason, we have yet to witness the demo test of the American technology. The NTC will either pick one technology platform or give the industry stakeholders a free hand in choosing the standard,” said Canobas.

NTC sources said American DTT experts are asking for an exemption on certain fees, which were likewise imposed on Japanese and European experts. “They don’t want to pay the necessary fees but they have to. So, we are still waiting for them to come here,” said one NTC official.

The TWG will prepare a report for each of the digital TV standards being tried out. The report will include a recommendation as to which technology is best suited to provide robust signal for both fixed and mobile receives in the country.

The members of the group include the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, Philippine Information Agency, National Economic and Development Authority, and 48 broadcasting firms. They were tasked to assist the NTC in crafting the rules to govern the conduct of implementation of DTT technology in the country.

The group’s recommendation will then be the basis of the rules governing the use of DTT technology in the country.

When the NTC issues the draft rules, a public hearing will be scheduled to get the opinion of industry stakeholders.

The NTC has received DTT applications from GV Broadcasting Systems Inc., ABS-CBN, GMA Network Inc., Associated Broadcasting Corp., National Broadcasting Corp., and Christian Era Broadcasting to offer digital TV service.

Digital TV technology allows multitransmission of programming content all at once through just one terminal, be it a TV or handheld units such as mobile phones, laptops or PDAs.

“For mobile TV, we will issue the permits to aspiring mobile TV operators after the rules are approved. After all, digital TV and mobile TV are two interrelated services,” said Canobas.

GV and Smart Communications Inc. are conducting a pilot test on mobile TV. They said the technology for mobile TV service was developed precisely to cater to people on-the-go and it is therefore inevitable that broadcast companies partner with mobile phone firms in order to provide reasonable and affordable rates.

Dingdong Dantes invites fellow actors to join basketball for a cause

Lingid sa kaalaman ng karamihan, five or 10 years ago ay napakarami nang natulungan ng young actor na si Dingdong Dantes. Pero hangga't maaari ay hindi na niya ipinapasa-publiko pa ang mga bagay na ito.



Pero kamakailan lang, nalaman ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) mula sa isang aktor na maglalaro sa isang basketball-for-a-cause sa P.M.I. (Philippine Maritime Institute) in Roosevelt, Quezon City, na ang nagtawag sa kanila para maglaro ay si Dingdong Dantes. When PEP asked Dingdong about it, hindi na nga ito nakatanggi pa and PEP even encouraged him to talk about it, dahil isang bagay ito na puwedeng maka-inspire pa ng ibang tao, especially ng mga artista rin na katulad niya.



"Kaibigan ko kasi yung taga-P.M.I. at nagtanong ako kung paano ako makakatulong by giving a scholarship. E, tamang-tama, Foundation Day raw nila sa August 20. May pa-basketball sila. So, we thought of an idea na bakit hindi na nga lang mag-compete ang team ng P.M.I. basketball sa team naman ng mga artista. Kung sino ang mananalo, yun ang makakakuha ng scholarship. Magiging for a cause yung laro, pero siyempre, kahit sino ang manalo, siguradong may bibigyan na kami ng scholarship.



"Sa ngayon, may ini-screen kami na tatlo munang puwedeng bigyan ng scholarship. Ang maganda niyan, nakapirma yung mga artistang maglalaro sa scholarship fund nila. So, kapag may nagtanong, sino nagpapaaral sa ‘yo, puwede niyang sabihin na si Ganito, si Ganyang artista."



Very thankful at ipinagmamalaki nga raw niya ang mga kaibigang artista na nang malaman kung ano ang proyekto niya ay mabilis na pumayag sa pagsali sa gawain niya.



Siyempre, kung sila ang mga maglalaro, si Dingdong naman ang all-out na magso-shoulder ng buong educational fund sa tatlong mapipili nilang i-grant ng scholarship.



Ang mga kaibigang aktor nga ni Dingdong na makikipaglaro sa team ng P.M.I. ay sina Luis Alandy, Marco Alcaraz, Alfred Vargas, Paolo Paraiso, Antonio Aquitania, JC de Vera, Marky Cielo at Arthur Solinap.



"Napakalaki ng pasasalamat ko sa kanilang lahat at hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan ang ginawa nilang ito," sabi pa ni Dingdong tngkol sa mga kasamahang artista.



Nalaman din ng PEP na bahagi na pala ng buhay ni Dingdong ang pagtulong niya sa edukasyon ng mga kapus-palad. In fact, for the past five years or so, masaya ito na animo'y isang magulang sa pagsasabing, "May mga graduates na ‘ko."



GIVING FOR HIS BIRTHDAY. Ayon kay Dingdong, maganda raw ang mangyayaring ito sa P.M.I.



"Meaningful siya, kahit tatlo pa lang sa P.M.I. yung bibigyan namin ng scholarship, kasi pinaghirapan ng walong artista. Hindi yung basta ibinigay na lang. Hindi naman ‘yan nadadala dahil sa, ‘O, sige, marami akong pera, kaya kong magbigay.' Mas masarap pa rin yung bagay na alam mong pinaghirapan mo.



"At malaking bagay pa nga yung birthday month ko ngayong August and it's something I want to give," sey nga niya na in fairness, hindi lang puro pa-pogi ang naiisip.



Hindi nga maitatangging malapit kay Dingdong ang pagbibigay ng halaga sa pag-aaral dahil for four years, siya ang ginawaran ng National Youth Commission bilang spokesperson for the Department of Education. Ini-award sa kanya yun four years ago pa at hanggang ngayon, nanatili siya sa posisyong yun.



"Advocacy ko ang education, pero marami pang iba. Yung education kasi, gusto kong ituloy ang advocacy na ito sa mga taong kailangang bigyan ng pagkakataon na makapag-aral lalo na at kung karapat-dapat talaga. Ayoko ng idea na dahil lang walang opportunity, titigil na sila sa pag-aaral," seryoso pa niyang pahayag.



IN SPIRIT. Yun nga lang, dahil sa August 20 ang foundation day ng P.M.I. "in spirit" na lang daw siya makakasama rito since nasa New Jersey pa siya sa panahong 'yon, kasama ang co-star niya sa Dyesebel na si Marian Rivera.



"Actually, nalungkot talaga ‘ko na wala ako sa mismong event. Kaya ganoon na lang din lalo yung pasasalamat ko sa mga actors na maglalaro. Wala naman akong magagawa, yung New Jersey , matagal na yun naka-schedule and it's a commitment. Excited na rin ako kasi, marami na rin nakakarating sa amin na marami na nga raw naghihintay sa amin doon.



"So, in spirit, kasama nila ‘ko sa Foundation Day and since it's for a good cause, alam kong maaalala nila ito sa mahabang panahon," ang sabi nga ni Dingdong na naka-schedule umalis papuntang New Jersey this Friday, August 15, at ang balik ay sa August 22 pa, in time naman para maghanda para sa Let's Celebrate The Dingdong & Marian Birthday Blow-Out sa Araneta Coliseum, August 27.

Close this MANILA, Philippines—Hunk actor Alfred Vargas seriously cares about his shoes.

He has them cleaned and put in boxes when not in use. Those that he wears to work daily are neatly stacked in a shoe cabinet inside his walk-in closet.

“I’ve been like this since I watched the movie ‘Alfie,’” the 26-year-old Alfred told Living Stars during a visit to his three-story house in Quezon City. “Jude Law said shoes have to be placed in boxes. He even specified that the boxes should have pictures of the shoes glued outside. I’m planning to do that, too,”

Alfred has his own tips: “Invest in basic colors. For leather shoes, buy them in black, dark brown and light brown colors. If you plan to buy sneakers, get them in white. You can match them with practically anything in your wardrobe, even with coats or blazers.”

SHOES

I prefer sneakers to leather shoes, but I also have Louis Vuitton and Paul Smith leather loafers.

I wish I have more Chuck Taylor canvasses. I love them because they’re very versatile. They never go out of style. They’re very comfortable, too.

I also own a couple of rubber shoes because I love running. (Shows his pair of Yohji Yamamotos from Adidas Y3).

My pair of Nike Zoom Lebron V 5 is my lucky basketball shoes. For some reason, maganda ang laro ko when I’m wearing it.

My Nike Plus Zoom Air counts the number of calories I shed when I run. It has a microchip that connects the shoes to my iPod. It also measures my speed. I can go online and compare my stats to others around the world. It says that I’m above average.

I like sneakers with touches of gold, silver and bronze. I match them with plain shirts. Shoes ang pinaka-accent. I don’t like wearing printed tops. It takes away the focus from my face (laughs).

SCENT

I like the smell of CK Summer by Calvin Klein. It’s young and sexy. I prefer the 2007 to the 2008 version. This is my favorite scent for now. I want people to remember me with this scent.

MEMORABILIA

My Sexiest Male Idol trophy is special to me. I got this during GMA 7’s 55th anniversary celebration. No less than Richard Gomez handed me the award. Feeling ko, it’s like he’s passing on the baton to me.

The Breakthrough Performance by an Actor Award was for the movie “Bridal Shower.” Direk Jeffrey Jeturian and Cherry Pie Picache also won awards for this film.

My other trophies were given by the province of Surigao, where my mom was born; the one from Bulacan is the Gintong Kabataan Youth Achievement Award. My dad is from Bulacan.

These two coin banks that have been with me since 2000 and 2002, respectively, are reminders of the two kids I’m sending to school. They symbolize my unofficial scholarship foundation. It started with my spare coins.

DVD COLLECTION

I have three all-time favorite movies. I like Quentin Tarantino’s attack in “Pulp Fiction.” I like its humor. I met Tarantino when he came to the Philippines last year. “The Beach” is my favorite Leonardo de Caprio movie after “The Departed.” It influenced me to become a backpacker. I’ve been in a lot of places because of this movie, just me and my backpack. I also like Robert de Niro in “Raging Bull.” I personally think this is how every actor should tackle roles.

SUITS

I wore the Joey Samson suit when I went to Las Vegas to watch a Manny Pacquiao fight. Everyone thought I bought it in the States. Ang daming pumuri.

I had my Paul Cabral suit on when I received my Breakthrough Award for “Bridal Shower.” I love black suits. Feeling ko, lumalabas ang character ko. I want a look that’s simple, clean and classical.

For two straight years, I was Makulay, the official torch bearer of GMA 7’s Kapusolympics. As the torch bearer, I get to wear this special jacket. It’s an honor to be picked as Makulay. I will keep this jacket forever.

TOPS

This is my comfy white shirt from Hammerhead. It’s stretchy. I can wear this with shorts, jeans, sometimes even with slacks and a pair of rubber shoes. Maganda pa rin.

This pink shirt makes me feel macho. Yes, even if it’s pink. I wear it once a month. That’s quite often.

SWIMWEAR

This pair of board shorts is already eight years old. This is my first pair. If you plan to buy board shorts, pick something that’s flattering to your body, preferably hipster.

Alfred is seen on the top-rating soap series “Dyesebel” and the drama series “Una Kang Naging Akin.”

August 15 ngayon, kaarawan ng mahal naming anak-anakang si Cogie Domingo. Masaya kami dahil isang taon na naman ang madadagdag sa kanyang buhay, pero nalulungkot kami, dahil matagal-tagal na panahon na rin siyang nababakante sa pagtatrabaho.

Maraming nagtatanong sa amin kung nasaan na si Cogie, ang standard naming sagot ay nandito lang siya sa Pilipinas, pero totoong pabalik-balik siya dito at sa Amerika kung saan may negosyo ang kanyang pamilya.

Maraming nanghihinayang sa talentong meron si Cogie, ang kanyang itsura ay hindi na pagtatalunan pa, dahil isa pa rin siya sa pinakaguwapong batang aktor natin ngayon.

Kung minsan talaga ay kailangan muna nating makakita ng hirap para mala*man natin ang kahalagahan ng isang bagay at ng isang nagbukas na oportunidad. Ang mga artistang may kuwento ng kahirapan ang buhay ay masisikap, gusto kasi nilang makalundag palayo sa kanilang pinagmulang buhay, ang mga artistang ganun ay propesyonal at masisikap talaga.

Pretty and talented Marian Rivera (she’s rumored to have replaced Jennylyn Mercado in the heart of young matinee idol Mark Herras) signed up last Friday for an eight–picture contract with Regal Entertainment, Inc., the country’s most prolific producer of impressive film projects.


Representing the Regal matriach, Mother Lily Monteverde, at the contract-signing held at the Centural Imperial Hotel, was Mother Lily’s daughter Roselle Monteverde-Teo. Accompanying Marian was her manager, Popoy Caritativo. Popoy is also the manager of Dennis Trillo and Gary Estrada.

After the contract-signing, Roselle couldn’t conceal her excitement with the newest addition to the Regal family’s galaxy of glittering stars. "Marian has everything it takes to succeed in the movies," Roselle said. "In addition to being stunningly beautiful, she also has tangible acting talent and the necessary, disciplined attitude towards her work."

Mother Lily, who has been discovering and nurturing showbiz icons for 40 years now, knew immediately that Marian had something special. "I handpicked all of Regal’s stars based on my gut feel," the lady producer explained. "And with Marian, I knew instantly that she has the makings of a star. The camera just loves her and men and women stare at her when she’s out in public. I’m very proud and extremely happy that she’s my newest Regal Baby, if that term is still fashionable!"

Actually, even before she signed the contract, Marian has appeared in a Regal production, the forthcoming "Pamahiin," topbilled by the multi-awarded Dennis Trillo and Iya Villania. "Pamahiin," directed by Rayhan Carlos, is slated for an April 19 opening.

After "Pamahiin," Regal has already lined up several projects for Marian, including a couple of possible entries to the 2006 Metro Manila Film Festival. Marian, by the way, is seen daily in the toprating afternoon soap "Agawin Mo Man ang Lahat."

After debuting at No. 5 on its pilot episode, ABS-CBN's new fantaserye Dyosa dropped to sixth up to eight place on the following nights. Although Dyosa relatively maintained its rating—with 25.5 percent as the highest and 23.6 percent as the lowest—it was not able to sustain its hold on the fifth position. It ranked No. 6 Tuesday (August 12), No. 8 Wednesday (August 13), and No. 7 Thursday (August 14).



Anne Curtis's Dyosa has the same timeslot as Marian Rivera's Dyesebel, GMA-7's own fantaserye, which has been consistently topping the ratings game in Mega Manila since its debut. Dyesebel posted the following ratings from Tuesday to Thursday: 40.2 percent, 38.3 percent, and 41.5 percent.



Richard Gutierrez's action-adventure series Codename: Asero maintained its second position since it began a couple of weeks ago.



Kapuso network's primetime newscast 24 Oras and romantic-comedy series Ako Si Kim Samsoon took the third and fourth spots, although the Regine Velasquez-starrer dropped to No. 5 Thursday behind The Singing Bee.



Other shows consistently occupying slots in the Top 10 are Iisa Pa Lamang, My Girl, TV Patrol World, and Pinoy Dream Academy—all from ABS-CBN.



GMA-7's new drama anthology Obra, featuring Katrina Halili on its first month, debuted with 14.1 percent; 14th overall.



In the daytime race, Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan grabbed back the lead although it tied with Eat Bulaga! yesterday, August 14, with identical 22 percent rating.



Another Kapuso afternoon soap, Magdusa Ka, was untouchable at No. 2.

and about "SOP" possibly being on replay this sunday...kung sa bagay naisip ko rin, tama lang na mag-concentrate na lang sina ignacio, lansigan, gacho and company sa PI buong araw ng linggo instead of mag-"SOP" pa sa tanghali. kumbaga, last chance na 'yun to prove na kaya nilang pagandahin ang PI (kahit na it's too late para sa maraming kapuso, who have already concluded long ago that this production group had "bastardized" the show)...

i happen to watch some performances of some PDA scholars (Laarni, Poy and Bugoy) thru YouTube and i must say, magagaling sila! to think na they came from Sultan Kudarat, Zamboanga and Camarines Sur respectively, na hindi naman ganuon ka-exposed sa anumang latest sa music scene. kaya magtataka ka kung paano nila natutunan ang ganuong istilo ng pag-awit. *okay*


is it just me or talaga lang mas magagaling pa 'ata ang mga latest discoveries ng PDA kumpara sa PI? :|

i just thought na posibleng replay ang "SOP" sa 'pinas kasi wala sa sked ng pinoytv this sunday, as i mentioned...and malamang sa malamang, this'd be because louie ignacio and the gang (perry lansigan, rommel gacho, hazel abonita, etc.) would be devoting the entire day preparing for the PI results show come nighttime...:)

She’s no princess

“Ayokong isipin na laging sinasabing princess ako [ng GMA], na ako yung ‘next big star,” Marian Rivera fesses up. “Ayokong iniisip ‘yung ganoon, kasi pag inisip ko ‘yun, wala namang mangyayari sa buhay ko. Baka lumaki pa ulo ko. At saka lagi kong sinasabi, kung nasa isip ko na ako ‘yung big star na ‘yun, hindi ako ganito magsalita sa inyo ngayon.”

It’s true -- iGMA has been interviewing Marian since her afternoon soap opera days, and she has not changed one bit. She’s still approachable, goofy, and undeniably frank. Showbiz talk isn’t ‘in’ for this girl. She says what she means, and she doesn’t care what others think.

“Gusto ko ‘yung normal lang lahat, ‘yung totoo ako sa sarili ko. At saka alam ng tao kung gaano ako ka-transparent, kung gaano ako kapalaban, kaya masaya ako na nagagawa ko ‘yung trabaho ko at nagagawa ko bilang ako – ‘yung wala akong tinatago.”

After Dyesebel
“Hindi ko alam kung pwede nang sabihin [yung next project ko],” she says. Marian hints that it’s going to be a show, and she’ll be given the chance to work with directors whom she has never worked with yet. “Pinagbigyan ako ng GMA na gawin lahat ng gusto kong role,” she imparts gratefully.

What are the roles that she has yet to portray?

“Ang hindi ko pa nagagawa, [yung] na-rape ako, [pero] actually, na-rape na rin ako pero hindi [yung] OA! [Hindi ko pa rin nagagawa ‘yung] tomboy, o [may abnormality]. ‘Yun ‘yung mga hindi ko pa nagagawa. I’m sure macha-challenge talaga ako pag ginawa ko [na ang mga ito].”

Her 'One True Love'

Marian is currently filming a movie with Dingdong Dantes and Iza Calzado under direk Mac Alejandre. Tentatively titled “One True Love,” she says it’s a very heavy drama which will ultimately push her to work harder at her craft.

“Nag-usap kami ni direk Mac noong isang araw, sabi niya, ‘Yanyan, iba’t-ibang klaseng iyak ang gagawin mo dito, ha -- may teary eyed, may nagwawala, may tahimik lang, mayroong masakit [talaga].’ Excited din ako makatrabaho si Iza kasi magaling [siyang aktres]; macha-challenge ka rin talaga.” Iza and Marian worked together for Desperadas last year, but it will be Marian and Dingdong’s first team-up on the big screen.

A singing and dancing Señorita?

It’s a well-known fact that Marian is talented not only in acting but in dancing as well. Her dance album, Marian Rivera Dance Hits under Universal Records, has already reached Double Platinum and is still a certified hit.

“Hindi ko ine-expect [yung success ng] dance album ko,” Marian admits. “Actually, noong in-offer sa akin ng Universal yun, sabi ko kay Popoy (Marian’s manager), ‘Hindi ko yata kaya. Mamaya masawi lang ako.’ Although [sa totoo], gusto ko talaga magka-dance album at hilig ko talaga sumayaw, so pinakinggan ko muna.

“Habang pinapakinggan ko yung ‘Chichiquita,’ [mas nagugustuhan ko siya]. [Tapos] habang nire-rehearse namin siya ng mga Abztract Dancers, gumaganda in fairness ang [kanta] pag paulit-ulit mong pinakikinggan! Tapos si tita Geleen Eugenio pa nagtuturo! Alam naman natin kung gaano kagaling at gaano kakikay magturo yun, di ba?

“Tapos hindi niyo napapansin, lahat ng guesting ko sa S.O.P., lahat surprise na mayroon akong Platinum or Gold [award]. Wala silang sinasabi kaya [nagugulat na lang ako!]”

So what’s Marian’s next endeavor now that she has taken over TV, movies, and the dance floor to boot?

From the looks of it, singing is the way to go! “Actually, gusto ko talaga pero alam naman nating lahat na hindi ganoong kagandahan [ang boses ko]! ‘Yun na lang ‘yung isang hindi ko nagagawa, kasi nakakaarte naman ako, nakakasayaw ako, nakakapag-comedy ako, nakakapag-drama, [at] ramp [modeling], [kaya] kanta na lang talaga hindi ko pa nagagawa.”

Ms. Geleen Eugenio confirms that Marian will be singing soon, and to her dance hits, of course! “The next project is to sing to the dance crazes that I’m going to do. I think [it’s set for] October or November,” says Ms. Geleen.

Marian refuses to reveal more details, saying that she wants to surprise her fans when the project is already finalized. “Mas maganda siguro kung surprise!”

On Wowowee’s New Jersey show & Alessandra’s homecoming

At the height of the brouhaha that the Eat Bulaga show in Las Angeles was a flop (it has since been proven untrue based on video footage and statement released by the organizer), which prompted “The Joey de Leon” to resign as columnist of a broadsheet (he’ll write again, this time in the Philippine Star, starting tomorrow), a good friend sent me an email concerning the show of its rival Wowowee in New Jersey last July 12.

While there are no accusations that such was a flop, the email, nonetheless, intrigued me because, if the detailed account of the incident is to be believed, there appeared an irregularity, especially in the selection of contestants, in its Pera o Bayong segment much to the dismay of the “real contestants.” It turned out that the winner was never on the list of the legitimate players.

The event was held at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City where Filipinos, who wanted to see their idol Willie Revillame and the rest of the stars and performers, drove to the area from as far as New York, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Delaware, Maryland and even Virginia Beach. The show stoked excitement but at the same time, frustration and disappointment. This was what happened according to the email sender, whose name is withheld upon request.

“Calla Lilly Entertainment Production staff called some ticket holders and informed them that they were going to be contestants in the show and were instructed to be at the Boardwalk Hall by 4PM and look for Rockie (person in charge of the contestants) to register their names. However, with the poor, unorganized system of both Calla Lilly Entertainment Production and Wowowee/ABS-CBN, names of a number of contestants who were called were apparently ‘omitted’ and were not on their ‘hand-written master list’ (in this age of computers – what a sad thought!). To make it even more confusing, some of the staff were saying that there were 50 contestants called, other staff members said that there were 100, but on their so-called ‘master list.’ they only had 80 contestants listed.

“Chaos then erupted inside the contestants area – one lady was even crying as she wasn’t able to sleep the night before to her excitement when she received the call, but only to find out her name was not on the list; another gentleman was frustrated with the disorganized system (‘typical Filipino production’ – he said); another gentleman was even upset as he received the call while playing in the casino and had to stop his game to register as a contestant, again, only to find out that his name was not on the ‘list.’ But lo and behold when the ‘Pera o Bayong’ portion came up, the contestants were more than 80 – about 100 or more were on stage!

“So what happened to the ‘official’ handwritten master list of 80 contestants? There was definitely a breach and a loophole in their system at the expense of the patrons! The story gets even ‘better’… the most ironic and unfair part of this contest was that the winner, a Jersey City local, was not even an ‘official contestant’ (he was not called by the staff of Calla Lilly Entertainment Production nor was his name on the list) – he was in the contestants area accompanying his friend who got the phone call informing him that he was a contestant of Wowowee (but became one of the victims of their unorganized system – as he was told his name was not on their ‘official’ handwritten list). This supposedly ‘winner’ was able to sneak himself in as a contestant with the pretence that he was one of the people called but whose name was not on the list,” part of the email reads.

Apparently, the complaints and disappointment did not end there because the organizers reportedly sold their $150 ticket at a cheap $50 as the show’s playdate got closer, purchasers of which were said to have gotten better seats as compared to those who really paid the higher price.

Now, I’m not making any judgment here because we have yet to hear from ABS-CBN. All I can say is that Filipinos deserve to know the truth behind all that has been said about the Wowowee show in New Jersey. If the Kapamilya network truly treats its viewers like family, they should clarify this issue. After all, our fellow Filipinos abroad just wanted to be entertained to ease their boredom and homesickness as they live and toil away from home to be able to support their families here.

Last Monday I learned that one of my favorite young actresses, Alessandra de Rossi, has gone back to her original home—ABS-CBN—to be part of the much-awaited Betty La Fea project with Bea Alonzo in the lead role.

Interestingly, the role given to Alex was said to be reserved for her that is why the production team waited for her to say yes before any announcement is made (which could happen tomorrow in ASAP, along with the revelation of the identity of the actor who would portray the role of Armando). But Alex’s role would just be something of a special participation because she would have another show that would cast her as one of the leads along with the most prominent names in the Kapamilya stable. Naturally, Alex is on a different high because of what is happening to her career now after she has been put in the sidelines (or a frozen delight?) in GMA 7. Her last project was Kamandag.

She was actually offered the villain role in Rhian Ramos’ upcoming soap La Lola but she declined; maybe because she and the lead star are still not in good terms. Managed by DMV Entertainment of direk Manny Valera, Alex’s “homecoming” to ABS-CBN has become easier. She used to be part of Star Circle Batch 7 along with Desiree del Valle and Jodi Santa Maria.

Being an Alessandra fanatic, I would say that like her I’m also excited and happy of what will happen to her career now. For me GMA-7 lost a jewel in Alex because her acting prowess is recognized not just in the country, but also in the international movie scene—thanks to her critically acclaimed movie Mga Munting Tinig years ago. An actress of high caliber, she was even offered to be part in a Hollywood movie that would star Brad Pitt, remember? But it didn’t materialize because the producers wanted her to portray a 30-year-old woman.

Anyhow, I really could not fathom why Alex did not get the right breaks in GMA-7 when acting-wise she is in the league of Iza Calzado and Sunshine Dizon. Is it because of her strained relationship with Rhian Ramos? Whatever is the reason, I’m just glad that the acting jewel has come home. Good luck Alex!

Personifying one of the icons that generations of Filipinos idolize, Rosa Rosal is a silver screen star with a heart of gold.

With this exclusive interview and pictorial set at 1 p.m. on that drizzling Tuesday afternoon, she arrived minutes earlier than the appointed time. Her mere presence elicited not a few glances as she walked down the halls of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel’s Garden Wing. The smile emanating from her luscious red lips and her greetings were as warm as her personality.

As the doors of the lift open, I quickly head to our well-appointed suite. There she was sitting comfortably on the couch, beckoning me to join her in a casual exchange of pleasantries over a tray of the freshest fruits in season.

A picture of class, elegance and regal bearing, indeed, sans the klieg lights and the fanfare from the celluloid world she has learned to live and love. After all, there can only be one Rosa Rosal.

In full bloom

Who could ever forget the memorable portrayals she has essayed from both the big screen and the boob tube? Oh, how we hated her as a scheming vixen who made life miserable for Celia Flor in Correctional, empathized with her as an oppressed peasant in Biyaya Ng Lupa, wept for her as a principled woman in Anak Dalita and Badjao, and eventually adored her as the kooky wife of the late Ronald Remy in ’Yan Ang Misis Ko. Needless to say, the list of meaningful lead and character roles goes on…

For someone who never thought of pursuing a showbiz career, Rosa started at the rather tender age of 16. At the time, she was working as secretary to Dr. Sixto Francisco when she chanced upon a movie being shot on location as she was walking on her way home.

Noticing Rosa’s good looks courtesy of her French-Egyptian father and an equally attractive Filipino mother, the talent coordinators of Qualitone lost no time in casting the young lady as an “extra” in Fort Santiago. Despite her minor role, her mestiza features easily stood out on the silver screen during that eventful premiere night. Sensing her potential as a future star attraction, the movie producer immediately located the secretary’s whereabouts.

“I was doubtful at first with their (tempting) offer, thinking that they were just going to test my worth. So I told them that if they really wanted me to be their talent, they better subject me first to a screen test. Whether I pass or fail it would be okay for me,” Rosa reminisces.

As it turned out, she passed it with flying colors. The rest is, as they say, part of movie history.

Long Live the Queen!

“While I was making movies with the group of Luis Nolasco for Kamagong, LVN Pictures also got me. I was also in the stable of stars of Premiere Productions. So for one year, cinema aficionados had their fill of Rosa Rosal movies shown in Dalisay Theater,” she fondly recalls.

With the influx of her blockbuster hits, Rosa confidently told her mother, “Mama, I am going to be the next movie queen!” Initially, her mom downplayed Rosa’s statement but sure enough, after a year, Rosa was proven correct.

“When I’m very focused on what I want to do, it really happens,” she affirms. “And it happened because that was the only Filipino theater at that time. I became the movie queen. After that, my projects were continuous.

“I could say that I am also the only movie actress to have merited a presidential citation when Anak Dalita won in a film festival in Hong Kong. Then President Ramon Magsaysay sent me a telegram and wrote me a letter congratulating me,” she relates.

Aside from her numerous acting awards, another feather added to Rosa Rosal’s multi-layered showbiz cap is her being the image model of the now-famous FAMAS statuette. In between sips of our chamomile tea, I was to learn from Mommy Rose that she asked Kodak Philippines to sponsor that stint. Kodak agreed on condition that she pose for that trophy.

Combining a stellar showbiz career with her various humanitarian projects while single-handedly raising a growing daughter, indeed, proved to be one Herculean task.

“I’m a very disciplined person. Even now, whenever TV networks and movie production outfits get me for their various projects, they know that I’m a stickler for professionalism. That may be the secret why I’m still around even at this time,” Rosa affirms.

“As everyone knows, the blood bank also keeps me busy these days. That certainly is my passion, having started as a volunteer for the Philippine National Red Cross 58 years ago. The energy I have for that cause is still the same. I feel good knowing that I can leave anytime,” Rosa states.

As one indefatigable lady who is not about to rest on her laurels, she has also had countless shares of awards as far as her humanitarian projects are concerned, among them being the 1999 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for Public Service.

“I am also the polio vaccine (bill) author, having the necessary papers to prove it. I fought for that cause. At that time, I was still with Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko. When I heard that (then) President Ferdinand Marcos was going to sign a bill for tuberculosis, I set a meeting with the Department of Social Welfare and Development. It was a hard fight but it was worth it.

“I stressed that a polio victim is crippled for life. Though the other party argued that it was very expensive, still, I fought for it. As soon as President Marcos affixed his signature, I was overjoyed when Rotary International sponsored it right away. I could say that right now, the Philippines is polio-free because of that bill,” she tells matter-of-factly.

Her curriculum vitae is fully packed with so many achievements and accolades that she garnered during her entire stay with the PNRC. And with so many significant things that has happened to her multi-checkered life, she couldn’t ask for anything more.

“I had a wonderful mother whom I loved and adored. I could say that whatever I am now, whatever values I have now, is all because of how she brought me up.

“In the beginning, I may have been bitter, what with all the painful trials that I’ve also encountered. But now, I have realized that God allowed all of these things to happen — including having a beautiful daughter (Toni Rose) and two wonderful grandsons (James and John). When people ask me when I am about to retire, I tell them I don’t intend to. Not until my last breath,” she concludes with conviction.

Spoken, indeed, like the true icon that she is.

Did you know that Jaya’s big hit single in the US in the late ’80s, If You Leave Me Now, is still being played across the US, particularly on FM radios and dance clubs, almost 20 years after it was released?

One top station, 103.5 KTU (The Beat of New York), plays the song regularly. One time, a disc jockey asked his partner, “Whatever happened to Jaya, I love her.” The partner replied, ‘I heard she’s back in her native Philippines where she’s a music icon.”

Filipino Reporter’s LP Pelayo said If You Leave Me Now continues to be heard in New York’s and LA’s dance clubs and is enjoyed by the current crop of clubgoers.

“They’re playing it with different remix and even extended versions, with Jaya’s voice very prominent,” says LP, who claims he had no idea before that the voice behind If You Leave Me Now is the same singer now known in the Philippines as “soul diva.” “Do you think she gets royalty? If she does, she must be making a lot of money.”

Jaya’s Filipino fans in the US said they hardly hear Jaya perform If You Leave Me Now even in her US concerts.

“She should sing it often because it’s her signature song,” said Tina Escobar of the Philippine Consulate in New York. “Doon siya nakilala sa US.”

Hindi pala pinayagan ng GMA 7 ang kanilang mga exclusive artists na
lumabas sa mga shows ng bagong TV5. Naisulat ko kasi na baka sa
binagong network magkaroon ng chance na magkatrabaho ang mga artista
ng magkalabang ABS-CBN at GMA since some of their artists were
included in some of the new shows of TV5 that were launched last
August 9. Paolo Contis, for one, has been reminded by his manager that

Dapat ay tularan ng ibang contract stars ng GMA-7 si Katrina Halili. Hindi ito ipokritang inamin sa amin na may pagkakataong halos anim na buwang walang ibinibigay na matinong assignment ang GMA-7 sa kanya noon, pero mas nanaisin daw niyang bumalik na lang sa Palawan, kaysa magbantang lumipat sa ABS-CBN.



"Binibigyan ko pa rin ng priority ang GMA-7 dahil kahit ganoon ang sitwasyon ko noon, hindi ko masasabing totally ay pinabayaan na lang nila ako. Iniisip ko na lang na darating din yung time ko, pero hindi mo maiaalis sa akin ang mag-isip,despite my loyalty, siyempre, bakit parang walang pinupuntahan?



"Hindi naman puwedeng nagtatagal ka sa sitwasyong walang growth sa career, di ba? Pero, hindi ako nag-expect ng kung anu-ano. Kasi, hindi naman mataas ang ambisyon ko, sa totoo lang. Kung ano ang ibibigay sa akin ng GMA, at kung hindi na nila ako papansinin, babalik na lang talaga ako sa Palawan," sabi pa ni Katrina nang pasyalan ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) kahapon, August 15, sa Mt. Carmel Church, Quezon City, para sa ilang huling eksenang kukunan sa pagtatapos ng Magdusa Ka.



Pero hindi ganoon ang nangyari. In a suddent twist of fate, gumanda ang takbo ng lahat sa career ni Katrina. Pagkatapos na mapansin bilang kontrabida ni Marian Rivera sa Marimar noon, pinagkatiwalaan na siya ng GMA-7 para magbida sa afternoon teleseryeng Magdusa Ka.



"Nang maramdaman kong buo ang tiwala ng GMA-7 sa akin, nag-focus talaga ako, to the point na hindi ko masyadong binibigyan ng pansin ang love life. Wala munang ganyan. Happy na ako na may friends na nagte-text-text," sambit pa ni Katrina.



PROJECTS. Definitely, mas gumaganda ang career ni Katrina sa ngayon dahil hindi lang siya pang-TV. Two weeks na lang at matatapos na ang pagsasaere ng Magdusa Ka, nakatakdang siya uli ang maging leading lady ni Dennis Trillo sa Gagambino.



"Kasama ako sa One Night Only ng OctoArts, at hindi totoong ako ang bidang-bida sa project na 'yan dahil marami kaming magkakasama. Nagkausap na kami ni Angelica [Panganiban] at ready na kaming magtrabaho para riyan. Marami pa kaming ibang kasama sa cast.



"May pagka-liberated ako sa istorya, tipong may sugar daddy. Tipong makulit ako riyan. Iba-ibang istorya ng mga babae. So, kailangang marami kami.



"Ganoon din sa Sundo, na kasama ko si Robin Padilla. Again, hindi ako ang solong leading lady riyan. Nariyan sina Rhian Ramos at Sunshine Dizon. Kaya lang si Rhian, ang role niya, sister ni Robin, iba rin ang role ni Sunshine. Parang masasabit lang ako sa istorya at magkakaroon kami ng romantic involvement ni Robin diyan.



"'Yung takbo ng istorya, parang nasabit nga lang ako, tipong sa Final Destination. Sa story, nagpapa-cute ako kay Robin," naikuwento na lang ni Katrina.



WORKS ABROAD. Mahihinto muna ang lahat ng aktibidades ni Katrina dahil nakatakda siyang lumipad patungong States for a series of events. Personal raket daw niya yun.



"Hindi na nga ako natutulog dahil dire-diretso ang shooting. Kapag ganyang aalis ako, nagkakadikit-dikit at nagpapatung-patong na ang schedule," napapailing na sabi pa ni Katrina.



"For two weeks akong mawawala. Talagang tinapos ko na lang itong Magdusa Ka. Pupunta ako sa San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, at mayroon pang isang hindi ko matandaan, pero apat na cities 'yan, e.



"Magpe-personal appearance ako, kakanta, autograph signing, mga ganoon. Bale third time ko na ito sa U.S. Noong June, first time, nagpunta ako sa New Jersey. 'Tapos, July, sa Virginia na.



"Baka sa October, mag-Dubai ako. Magsu-shoot ako ng Miss X sa Europe naman. Then, December, sa Los Angeles. Para akong balikbayan," natatawang sambit ni Katrina.



NO EXPECTATIONS. Ito nga ang maganda kay Katrina, wala siyang expectations. Sinasamantala na lang niya ang opportunities.



"Sa rami ng ginagawa ko rito, nakakapag-abroad pa ako for work pa rin. Sabi ko nga, gagawin ko na lang lahat ito, habang nariyan. At least, kung wala na, nagawa ko na ang lahat. Na-maximize ko na," aniya pa.



Yun lang ang attitude niya na dapat ay tularan ng ibang nag-iinarteng nagbabantang lumipat sa kabilang network kapag hindi nakukuha kung ano ang gusto.



"Ganoon kasi ako, kung darating, e, di darating," aniya pa. "Bakit pipilitin kung hindi naman mangyayari? Kung ano ang ibinigay sa akin, yun na yun.



"Darating at darating, kahit hindi ko hingin. Itong nangyayari sa buhay ko, hindi ko naman in-expect talaga. Kaya happy ako. Kasi, kung nag-expect ka at hindi natupad, frustrated ka, sasama ang loob mo. E, kung hindi, kung ano ang magandang dumating diyan, magiging happy ka at thankful.



"Mas maganda ang feeling nang hindi ka nangarap, 'tapos, ibinibigay sa 'yo," pagwawakas na lang ni Katrina.

i happen to watch some performances of some PDA scholars (Laarni, Poy and Bugoy) thru YouTube and i must say, magagaling sila! to think na they came from Sultan Kudarat, Zamboanga and Camarines Sur respectively, na hindi naman ganuon ka-exposed sa anumang latest sa music scene. kaya magtataka ka kung paano nila natutunan ang ganuong istilo ng pag-awit.

maraming magaling sa PDA tulad din naman sa PI. ang kaibahan nga lang natanggal agad yung mga magagaling sa PI. yung mga inaasahan mong magtatagal natanggal agad dahil sa bwisit na voting period na yan na pinalawig nung top 12 na. kung di siguro ganun malamang pasok pa rin yung magagaling kasi limitado ang oras para mag-power voting ang mga angkan ng finalists. :bop:

tingin ko pantay lang ang laban. may magagaling at may mediocre ang talents sa parehong shows. somehow magaling din yung mga natira sa PI. mas magaling nga lang yung mga naunang natanggal. :D at the end of the day, after ng contest saka pa lang magkakaalaman kung sino ang may staying power sa music industry. maraming nanalo sa contest pero wala ring nangyari kahit magaling pa sila. wish ko lang dumating ang araw na mas tingnan ng mga tao ang talent kesa sa hitsura.

Ang six confirmed Celebrity Duets contestants ay sina Joey Marquez (TV host-comedian) at ang kapatid nitong si Melanie Marquez (beauty queen), MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando (public servant), Carlene Aguilar (beauty queen), Cory Quirino (TV host and columnist), at JC Buendia (fashion designer).



Kumpleto na sana ang contestants, pero nag-backout ang entertainment columnist na si Ricky Lo at ang misis ni Manny Pacquiao na si Jinkee. Last minute na ring nag-backout ang dating Purefoods player na si Jerry Codiñera.



Bukod kay Codiñera ay may iba pang basketball player na na-consider mapasama sa Magic 8, pero hindi lang makapag-commit ang mga kinausap dahil conflict sa schedule ng taping, practice, at basketball game.

Fraser for 4th ‘Mummy’ film


When it comes to multiple sequels following the success of a blockbuster film, latter installments are usually not as well-received as the first. However for Brendan Fraser, star of the "Mummy" series on the silver screen, his star power indeed follows through.

With the hype of "The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" the China-based third film in the franchise, director Rob Cohen has revealed he’s already planning another film in the popular "Mummy" series with Brendan Fraser in the lead once more.

Cohen explained: "What I’m really happy about is that, by taking "The Mummy" out of Egypt and putting it in China, by exploring a different approach to the quest for immortality, we now have it clear that the "Mummy" franchise can travel.

Cohen told the press: "Now we know that if we want to go to Mexico or we want to go to Peru, we can because there’s a cultural truth there of the mummies and these beautiful cultures... So I think that somehow that might make the basis of a good story."


007 to get the royal treatment


The iconic character of James Bond has to be a pop-culture example of what a leading man should be. Tall dark, handsome and dangerous! Daniel Craig, the current 007 is no exception.

The world premiere of Craig’s next James Bond ‘Quantum of Solace’ film is set to be a royal affair as Britain’s Princes William and Harry will attend the special showing on Oct. 29 in London’s Leicester Square. This effort will help raise funds for two Armed Forces charities where the Royal brothers have asked for proceeds from the premiere to benefit Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion.

"Quantum of Solace" is the 22nd official film in the 007 series.

Have you ever wondered where Lea Salonga gets all that energy?

She’s everywhere — on Broadway, at the CCP, all over! — and forever on her feet, doing something, anything, everything! Doesn’t she get tired?

She’s good in everything she does. Correction, not just good but excellent! As an actress, as wife (to Robert Chien) and as mother (to Nicole).

Until the 24th of this month, Lea is on the CCP Main Theater stage, dazzling in Cinderella (in the title role), with Australian actor Peter Saide as her Prince Charming, directed by Bobby Garcia. After its Philippine run, the musical (presented by Ascorbic Acid Ceelin, with The Philippine STAR among its partners) will go on a 30-week Asian tour covering Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Korea.

A grueling schedule that requires super-human effort, strength and endurance, right?

So, have you ever wondered where Lea gets all that stamina and energy?

I did — and asked her where.

How do you keep up with your back-breaking schedule?

“I make sure that I get enough rest time in between my commitments, gigs, press events and whatever else fills my calendar. I’m not the nicest person to deal with when I’m tired, and I’m unable to perform at my best.”

How much sleep do you get per night?

“Before I had my daughter, I would easily get eight hours, maybe more if I was really tired. Now, I manage quite well with six or seven. If I need one, I also take a nap.”

What kind of diet do you follow?

“I don’t diet anymore. I’ve tried Atkins, South Beach, Fit for Life at various points in my life. Now, I just try to eat what I know will fuel me for the day ahead, making sure I include fruits and vegetables, carbs, proteins and plenty of water.”

What’s usually for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Any snacks in-between? What kind of food do you love and what kind do you avoid?”

It depends. The cook usually goes to town for this first meal. If I’m ravenously hungry, I’ll have rice, eggs, and some type of breakfast meat. Because I wake up late in the morning, it turns out to be more of brunch than breakfast. If I don’t want to eat much, a bowl of oatmeal or cereal will do the trick.”

Do you observe a special diet when you have a concert or a play?

“Now that Cinderella is in its run, I have a sandwich (usually chicken or tuna) a couple of hours before the show. I can’t eat heavy before a performance; a heavy meal would make me feel sluggish and heavy. While the show is going on, I drink plenty of water. It’s very warm on the CCP stage, and I perspire a lot.”

What vitamins do you take?

“I take a women’s multivitamin, flax oil, calcium and extra vitamin C. That’s about it.”

How much water do you take per day?

“I drink at least eight glasses a day, at least four of them during a show.”

What about soda, coffee or tea, juices?

“I’m not the hugest juice drinker in the world now, and I do try to avoid soda. However, I do enjoy coffee and green tea. My weakness with the coffee: Milk and a non-caloric sweetener.”

Do you have sweet tooth?

“Hmmm...not really, but I do like a spoonful of something after a really wonderful meal.”

How do you take care of your voice?

“I sleep or rest when I need to, use a humidifier in my hotel room and dressing room when I have to perform in drier climates and cities, and drink plenty of water. I also avoid overly spicy food. I have hyperacidity so I regularly take medicine to manage that condition. It helps to keep the acid away from my vocal cords. The meds can only be taken on the advice of a medical doctor.”

Are you not supposed to talk a few hours before the start of a play?

“Oh, I can talk just fine before a show, but not too much. Meaning, I can’t do any interviews (if I can help it) just before I have to perform.”

Are ice-cold drinks bad for the voice?

“They tend to freeze my throat and voice, so I only take cold drinks when I’m not working for longer periods of time. So at the moment, I’m avoiding anything that’s too cold.”

Do you sing Nicole to sleep? What songs suit her best?

“I sing whatever she wants me to sing, which can include anything from Sesame Street, Aladdin or Mulan. Sometimes she requests nursery rhymes or the ABC song. It’s pretty funny!”

How often do you see your doctor (for voice), dentist, dermatologist?

“I see my EENT as needed, my dentist twice a year and my dermatologist as needed. I’ll probably see my dermatologist at the end of my Manila run in Cinderella to prep my skin before I head off to China, then see her again whenever I come home.”

How do you cope with stress?

“I smell my daughter’s hair. It works! I also make time for a trip to the nearby spa for a foot reflexology massage or get together for dinner and conversation with good friends.”

Do you meditate?

“Not really. I pray a lot, though.”

Do you get a massage?

“Oh, I do as often as I possibly can. Right now, Cinderella is keeping me on my feet, either running around or dancing, which means that my body is just exhausted at the end of the work week. A massage is now a requirement, not a luxury.”

Do you listen to music, watch DVDs?

“Oh yes, I do. I listen to music while I’m doing my makeup for a show. As for DVDs, I haven’t had the time lately.”

Favorite sleepwear?

“My old Pidro (by Danny Javier) nightshirts. No one makes them anymore. I threw one out already because it was so full of holes, but the rest that I still have are so soft... nothing else compares to them.”

Do you snore, talk in your sleep or sleepwalk?

“According to my husband, I’ve talked in my sleep a few times, but I don’t snore. I don’t sleepwalk either.”

How many pillows do you sleep with? Do you like the aircon turned on full blast?

“Yes, the aircon needs to be on, but not full blast. I don’t like it too cold... just comfortable. I sleep with a pillow under my head, and one I need to hug.”

How do you take care of your skin? Are you afraid of the sun?

“I stay out of the sun not because I don’t want to get darker (I would love to be a couple shades tanner than I am now, to be honest), but I start to itch when I’m under direct sunlight for too long. I make sure I wear sunscreen with a high SPF if I’m going to spend time at the pool or on the beach. I also make sure my daily facial moisturizer has sunscreen.”

What kind of workout do you do?

“The SHOW!!! I’m exhausted after it’s over, and it’s not just from the singing. I get to dance, run around, and go up and down flights of stairs. At one point, wearing a very, very heavy gown. Whew! I also go to a dance class when I can. This is one activity I really enjoy, more than anything else.”

What part of your body needs improvement?

“My thighs and my upper arms. They’ve never really been slim, though. My abs are strong from my singing.”

What part is most vulnerable?

“My chest, I think, so I keep that wrapped and covered. Same goes for my throat and neck. My feet are also a bit weak. I’m flat-footed, and I’ve sprained my ankles a lot.”

And what part is your favorite?

“My hands and my neck. My shoulders are also starting to improve.”

Name three men you think have nice bodies.

“George Clooney is sexy, period. Can I name him two more times? Oh, okay, fine. Piolo Pascual looks great always... and Brad Pitt. Another mention must go to Gerard Butler.”

And three women who have nice bodies.

“KC Concepcion because she isn’t scrawny, she looks physically strong. Marian Rivera (I mean, every part of her looks beautiful). And Angelina Jolie. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for her. One more: Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, for looking more and more beautiful, fit and strong the older she gets. She’s unreal, and inspiring.”

Matapos ang kontrobersiyal na Bench Blackout, kung saan nagpahayag noon ng sama ng loob si Annabelle Rama dahil sa hindi raw fair na treatment na ibinigay sa anak niyang si Richard Gutierrez, na-foresee na ng karamihan na mukhang sisiklab na naman ang galit nito dahil sa pagkakasabay ng first showing day ng For The First Time na pinagbibidahan nina Richard at KC Concepcion sa birthday concert naman nina Dingdong Dantes at Marian Rivera sa Araneta Coliseum on August 27.



Kasabay ang TV showbiz news show na Cinema One, narinig ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ang mga pahayag ni Annabelle via phone last Wedenesday, August 13, hinggil sa tila bagong isyung papasukin ng matapang na ina't manager ni Richard. Although kalmado ang boses, mararamdaman mong may sama ng loob ng mga pahayag ni Annabelle.



"Hindi ako papatol sa mga isyu na ‘yan. Luma na ‘yan. Tapos na yung mga birthdays nila [Dingdong and Marian], ang tagal-tagal na. Sinasadya talaga at pinagplanuhan," sabi ni Annabelle.



Sa diretsahang tanong ng PEP kung may sama ba siya ng loob sa GMA-7 at kung may mensahe siya gustong iparating, ito lang ang binitawang salita ni Annabelle:



"Wala, okey lang sa akin yun. Natutuwa ako sa kanila, tuwang-tuwa ako. Natutuwa ako sa ginawa ninyo, hindi ko alam kung bakit ninyo ginawa ‘yan pero okey lang sa akin. Wala tayong magagawa kasi nandiyan na ‘yan. Maraming salamat sa lahat," may pagkasarkastikong litanya ni Annabelle.

Nakausap nang PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) si Say Alonzo a few days after her birthday (her actual birthday is August 6) sa isang cozy restaurant sa may C-5 Road. Kapansin-pansin na mas maganda ang aura ni Say ngayon at mukhang inspired. Pero siya na ang nagsabing, she's inspired with work right now and that she has a new manager.



SAYING BYE TO STAR MAGIC. Nag-end na nga raw ang kontrata niya sa Star Magic, so she decided na magpa-manage naman kay Rommel Gacho. Isang bagay na pinag-isipan din daw muna nila ng kanyang mommy lalo pa nga't ever since, she's with Star Magic nga naman.



"Actually, matagal na rin kasing tapos yung contract ko sa Star Magic. Napag-isip-isip ko at ng mom ko na kailangan na rin ng change. Naisip ko na siguro, kailangan na rin ng bagong manager at si Tito Rommel, sobrang magaling mag-manage and mabait...as I've heard from our common friends and other people."



Maayos naman daw ang naging pagpapaalam niya sa dating management group.



"Sobrang-sobrang okey! Kasi, noong kinausap ko yung handler ko, si Ate Gidget dela Cuesta, kinausap ko siya about it at sabi naman niya, kung saan naman daw ako masaya, they will be supporting me naman daw. Kasi, I stayed with them after PBB and I also got to talk to Tita Mariole [Alberto] sa Star Magic Ball, which was the last thing I did for them. And Mr. M [Johnny Manahan] was there too. At sabi lang nila, good luck. They will always be proud of me and I will always be a part of them.



Dugtong pa niya, "We parted ways na maganda and they know me na gusto kong mag-grow at gusto kong maging successful. At alam nyo naman na masyadong maraming artist na dumarating at marami rin naman ang umaalis. Siyempre, ako na rin mismo ang kailangang gumawa ng paraan para magkaroon ako ng place rito.



"At saka, gusto ko rin i-prove sa mga tao na marami pa naman akong puwedeng ibigay. Hindi lang po talaga ako nabibigyan ng chance."



A KAPUSO FROM THE START. Hindi ba naging mahirap sa kanya to change "home"? Especially for someone like her na masasabing produkto ng isang talent search ng ABS-CBN?



"Of course, it's gonna be hard but I think kaya naman and with the help of Tito Rommel and I have many friends naman in GMA. Alam ko na sa PBB talaga ‘ko nakilala. Pero actually, noong college days ko pa, pagkagaling ko sa States, I really started in GMA," sey niya.



"Nag-guest ako three episodes ng Click at bale sa Magpakailanman. But then, after that, sabi ko, parang mahirap yata, so, I finished my studies ‘tapos, yun nga, I joined PBB. So, going back to your question kung mahirap bang mag-change ng network? I'm not gonna say naman that I changed network because I don't have naman exclusive contract in GMA as of now, so, I can guest anywhere and do anything in any network. So, okey lang naman. And it so happened that my manager lang is more identified with GMA, and I'm happy and just excited lang."



HAPPY WITH GMA. So far daw, wala pa rin naman siyang regular show sa Kapuso network, though, for a month ay napanood siya sa Nuts Entertainment as guest and since December, marami na rin daw siyang nagiging guesting sa GMA.



"Sobrang okey silang ka-work. Ang babait nila, sobra! Sobrang accommodating. Hindi mo mapi-feel na taga-kabila ka or galing ka dun. Sobrang mabait talaga sila. Hindi ko ma-feel na iba ka, kahit konti," sey niya.



Marami raw plano ang bago niyang manager. And she's just crossing her fingers na mag-materialize lahat ng plano nito. PEP asked Say kung siya ang masusunod, ano talaga ang gusto niyang gawin?



"Gusto ko talaga mag-host. Yun talaga ang love kong gawin. At saka, siyempre, gusto ko pa rin mag-act pero yung very light lang like romantic comedy. I don't want naman yung heavy drama but I'm open to anything. And of course, singing...actually, kahit ano naman, but sana , huwag lang yung sobrang paseksi."



NOT "PA-CUTE" ANYMORE. Aware si Say na ang impression ng iba, tila hanggang pagpapa-cute lang daw siya, to which she totally disagrees. "Well, may mga naririnig ako na before, sinasabi nga nila na si Say, puro pa-cute lang ‘yan, kaartehan. Pero let's forget about that already. That was three years ago...



"I mean, PBB days...you know, what I can give is so much more than what you just saw in a reality show, because reality show is every day life, reality...but when you think about work like acting, singing, hosting...there's so much more that I can give. And sana , the people that watched me in PBB can really let go of that.



"That was three years ago, tapos na yun. So, yung mga taong nagsasabi na ito lang ang kaya niyang gawin, pa-cute, maarte... Dude, iwanan na natin yun. Sana lahat ng tao bigyan ng chance. Sana itong chance na ito na ibinibigay sa akin ni Tito Rommel, ito na talaga."

Hindi ko nagustuhan ang Final Performance Night ng Pinoy Idol! Una, *** stage akala ko naman maganda at maayos yun *** recycle lang! ang gulo-gulo ng opening, halos magsiksikan na silang lahat! at syempre dahil si louie ignacio ang director, ati-atihan na naman! Ang hindi ko maintindihan bakit kelangan pang mag-perform nina Regine Velasquez at Basil Valdez pati na rin ng Freestyle, South Border, Cueshe at Itchyworms, dapat kasi focus lang sa Top 3 *** episode ngayon kasi nga final performance tapos sisingitan ng iba. Dapat ginawa yan sa Grand Results Night at hindi ngayon! Sayang kasi *** time, sana mas mahaba *** pag-perform ng Idol Finalists pero hindi ganun ang nangyari! At ang pag-comment ng mga judges parang regular episode lang at halatang nagmamadali! Saying talaga kasi akala ko babawi na ang team Ignacio sa last 2 episodes ng Pinoy Idol pero wala pa rin nangyari! Kung magkakaron ulit ng bagong Pinoy Idol sana iba na ang director, writers, staff and crew! :bop:
