Living up to high expectations, the pilot episode of Dyesebel starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes drew an amazing 44.9 percent rating to lead the primetime race last night, April 28; considering that the two young stars have yet to appear since the episode last night focused on how Dyesebel's parents (Jean Garcia and Wendell Ramos) began their love story.



Although the pilot episode of Dyesebel is very high, it was not able to surpass the 47.1 percent rating of Darna on April 11, 2005. Darna still holds the record of the highest rating for a pilot episode, followed by ABS-CBN's Pangako Sa ‘Yo with 46.5 percent.



However, Dyesebel was able to beat the pilot episode of Marimar, which also starred Marian and Dingdong. Marimar debuted on August 13, 2007 with 36.6 percent.



Also, GMA News reported power interruptions in some areas in Metro Manila during the airing of Dyesebel last night. According to Meralco, there was a problem in their power supply.



ABS-CBN's new horror series Maligno also debuted last night. Starring Claudine Barretto, Maligno, which has a later timeslot because of its matured theme, generated a 17.5 percent rating to grab the tenth place in the primetime race.



Joaquin Bordado came in second with 37.6 percent; followed by Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita, 24 Oras, TV Patrol World, The Singing Bee, The Legend, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus, and Lobo.



In the daytime race, Eat Bulaga! once again lorded over the competition with 24.5 percent. The Dramarama sa Hapon trio of GMA-7—Daisy Siete, Maging Akin Ka Lamang, and Kaputol ng Isang Awit—took the second to fourth slots.



The new game show of Ogie Alcasid, Da Big Show, beat Edu Manzano's Pilipinas, Game KNB? for the first time; 14.7 percent versus 14.2 percent.



Primetime television bid adieu to GMA-7's Kamandag and ABS-CBN's Kung Fu Kids last Friday, April 25. Kamandag starring Richard Gutierrez topped the overall race with 38.1 percent while Kung Fu Kids took the No. 6 spot with 23.3 percent—the highest among all Kapamilya shows.



The heavy drama Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita got its highest rating so far, 33.1 percent, to place second behind Kamandag; followed by Joaquin Bordado (32.8 percent), 24 Oras (26.5 percent), and the primer of Dyesebel titled Ang Daigdig Ni Dyesebel (24.7 percent).



Following Kung Fu Kids are other ABS-CBN shows: Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus, 21.9 percent; Lobo, 21.4 percent; The Singing Bee, 21.3 percent; and TV Patrol World, 21 percent.



In the daytime race, Daisy Siete dislodged Eat Bulaga! in the top position. The drama series starring the SexBomb Girls got 24 percent while the longest-running noontime show had 20.5 percent, which was only good for No. 4.



The afternoon soaps Maging Akin Ka Lamang and Kaputol ng Isang Awit took the third and fourth positions, respectively, while Kapamilya noontime show Wowowee completed the Top 5.



Eat Bulaga! regained the No. 1 position in the daytime race last Saturday, April 26, by virtue of its 23.5 percent rating. It was followed by Wish Ko Lang, Takleshi's Castle, Wowowee, and StarTalk in the Top 5.



Michael V's gag show Bitoy's Funniest Videos, meanwhile, topped the primetime race with 31 percent. Coming in second place was Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho with 28.9 percent while Pinoy Idol took the third spot with 26.4 percent.



The new superhero action series of ABS-CBN, Kapitan Boom, starring Jon Avila and Jay-R Siaboc premiered at No. 7 with 16.8 percent. This was the replacement of KC Concepcion's limited-engagement drama anthology I Am KC.



GMA-7's musical variety show SOP was the No. 1 daytime program last Sunday, April 27. The show, which featured the grand launch of Dyesebel and the movie Ploning, posted a rating of 17 percent. Its rival program, ASAP '08, which had a remote telecast in Dagupan City, got 11.7 percent.



In the battle of the showbiz talk shows, Showbiz Central regained the lead from The Buzz. Showbiz Central—which featured the first live TV appearance of Heart Evangelista and the guesting of Dyesebel's Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes—got 14.1 percent. The Buzz—which featured an interview with When Love Begins stars Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis and Pantene girls Gretchen Barretto, Ruffa Gutierrez, Claudine Barretto, and Judy Ann Santos—got 10.1 percent.



Finally, Kap's Amazing Stories led all primetime programs with 25.5 percent; followed by Mel & Joey, Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus, and All Star K.

Ratings does not a quality show make. I wanted to see for myself if it was worth paying extra to get GMA Pinoy TV here in the US. I actually took time to watch the shows of GMA. Conclusion, GMA Pinoy TV was not worth paying extra for. Shows have very bad storyline. Marimar was really boring.

First, what's with the Caps? Don't you know that means you're screaming? Second, what has Marian Rivera got to do with this? She's just one of the performers in the show. In fact, in my opinion, her beauty and talent were wasted in the show. Her popularity is being brought about, not by merits in her talent, but by the publicity gimick of GMA7. Don't you think that's unfair for her? She seems to be a good actress.

Actually, I can see why Angel Locsin became unhappy with GMA7. They were making her into a star. But what she wanted to be was an actress. When she was with GMA7 (I was still in the Philippines when Mulawin was being shown), she was a bad actress. Popular, yes, but not a good one. When she transferred to ABS-CBN, I thought she had no business going there. I thought, "How does she compare with the good actresses there?" But when I saw her in MMK, that's when I realized that she was a good actress. GMA7 just made her do all those projects without really honing her acting.

Now, I see the same thing happening with Marian Rivera. For now, she is happy with the success. But when she does project after project where only her beauty and body are showcased, then it might be different. If she really wants to be an actress, she needs to do projects that don't make her look glamorous. I think that was what she did before the Marimar brouhaha.
