Japanese BPO to expand in RP, eyes wider English-speaking market

MANILA, Philippines - A Japanese business process outsourcing (BPO) firm is investing P120 million in the country to finance the expansion of its local partner, Logicall, Inc.
Transcosmos, Inc., one of the biggest call centers in Japan with 22 offices and over 20,000 employees, merged with the mid-sized call center last month to reach a wider English-speaking market.
Kenji Obata, who now sits as vice-president of the Transcosmos-Logicall merger, said the Japanese firm had spoken with more than 20 companies and even considered taking the business to India before deciding to partner with LogiCall.
"We needed a partner who has an identical sense of values and mentality to be aggressive in entering the English-speaking market. Second, the equipment and facility that Transcosmos has is almost identical to the equipment and facility that Logicall is using," Mr. Obata said.
Logicall is a three-year old BPO with 300 seats at its lone office along Chino Roces Ave. in Makati City.
Logicall Executive Director Archie C. Rodriguez said the company hopes to double capacity by yearend and keep the organization growing.
The company hopes to have 3,000 seats by 2011. "We’re looking at having as many as 6,000 to 8,000 employees," he said.
He added that the merged BPO should start reaping $20 million in revenues annually by then.
Logicall is looking for new locations where it can expand in Metro Manila, while key cities like Cebu, Davao and Bacolod will be explored two years from now.
Like other BPO companies, Transcosmos-Logicall expects the local industry to continue growing.
The government earlier said the sector expects to yield $13 billion worth of revenues by 2010.

i've been part of this company but i've never felt the team spirit here.
I think recruitment is all about recruiting. just hitting the quota is all that matters. think about an agent who got you to buy a house and lot. after the agent was able to make you sign the contract and pay the down payment, he'll leave you with the documents and probably, you the buyer will just finish everything yourself until you get your title. sa madaling sabi, pinagkakitaan lang. this is what i felt here. just a business unit, but there's no team.
nevermind the imperfection. but if you really are looking for a job, it can provide you the opportunity. Be careful though. make sure your signing the right contract. make sure its not project based if you want to be regularized. You will experience kasi some disadvantages when it comes to loans. mas mahirap rates/payment terms mo pag nagapply ka ng housing mo. so make sure you consider what you're signing. if you're considering building a family, getting some property, go regular.
comparing the training experience, walang lasting mark that will be with you for a long time yung oras spent in training. the best professors, at least teach you something more than the subject matter. worst prof, doesn't understand the program itself. here, you will just remember the hahaha. yun lang.
incentives, make sure di drawing lang. if its not stated in the contract, malamang, wala ka talagang incentive.
nakakapanghinayang nga lang yung director. di siya filipino but you will feel the intent of making his fellow employees happy. the problem is he's surrounded by inefficient fellows din.
if you're a capable manager, might as well apply here. at least there's the challenge you might be looking for.
ireplace nio yung sa purchasing dept. nagpurchase ng headsets yung cheap talaga, puros sira tuloy, di ata marunong or baka kulang talaga sa experience. pati yung gas lift chairs, ang binili ba naman e yung ewan, see it yourself. di na cia gas lift, mga broken pa. much better if binili na lang mga second hand imports at least quality. mind you, ang mga warehouse e nasa p.tamo lang, di pa nakita. kinomisyon malamang kayu ng purchasing.
