Will this affect the influx of US Outsourcing in the Philippines, and the rest of the world? How will this affect the growing industry of call center in the country?

It seems like he's more on the anti-outsourcing side if we are going to base it in one of the articles written.

What do you think?

Definitely Obama is anti outsourcing. He needs to play that card to get elected. But based on his flip-flopping record, he might reconsider it because if these types of jobs are brought back to America they will get low quality (not even high school graduates) workers like short tempered and lazy afro americans or industrious but semi-literate Mexicans.

Hindi lang naman kasi call center type jobs ang ina-outsource. Americans also outsource manufacturing jobs and I think ito ang priority nilang ibalik sa America. White collar type outsourced jobs are still expensive to use in America compared to blue collar jobs which they can replace with robots and Mexican labor.

It's a scary thought. Imagine all US accounts to pull out from all call centers here in the country.

Definitely the unemployment rate in the country would sky-rocket to a million.

But of course, it's just at the back of my mind.

I just hope this won't push through. I mean, this would put the country in real jeopardy, at least for the thousands of yuppies who are employed in this industry.

Obama may be playing the anti-outsourcing card to get votes but Obama really has no power over what businesses do (of course as long as it is legal). Obama cannot make outsourcing illegal because it will cause prices to soar tremendously thus killing the already in recession US economy. The US currently cannot afford to pay the US rate wages for the jobs they outsource not unless they want goods and services to be very expensive. The only thing Obama can do is offer more tax breaks and other incentives for jobs to remain in the US. Whether he likes it or not, outsourcing is here to stay as long as countries like the Philippines, India, China etc. offer dirt poor wages for the service the US needs.

to be honest, even if obama wins, he really can't dictate what big businesses do with outsourcing processes. if he gives incentives to these big businesses to place jobs in the US, it should be a very big incentive. we know that outsourcing is one way for a company to reduce costs by eliminating the overhead for technology and staff to run these processes (be it business process or call center outsourcing). these businesses know they would not get the same quality of workers they have in other countries with the workers that they can get in the US. third world countries are definitely have lower wages to offer so it is an attractive deal for these businesses. i wouldn't really worry about obama unless he runs the US under martial law or he becomes the anti-christ...that will really make me very afraid.

I like Obama.

But if he wins, then it would smell trouble for the CC industry particularly in the account I handle (Healthcare Insurance).

Obama? this are just some of his politically motivated tactics just to convince voters specially the ethnic minority. its very very cost efficient for the US clients to have their businesses outsourced and i would like to think that the outsourcing industry will still continue to grow.

It's merely the Democratic party line; if I remember correctly, Clinton also had this as his line, but nothing happened to it.

^^ On the contrary, anti-outsourcing is primarily a conservative line usually expected from a Republican candidate. Clinton primarily used this line due to furor from blue-collar workers over NAFTA being ratified during his administration.

Obama is towing this line as well since the electorate find him to be too left-leaning liberal and this is his way of trying to move more to the middle. Notice that he did not categorically state that he is against outsourcing as this would put his foreign policy platform in jeopardy.

The effect that this has on BPO's is minimal at best. The IT industry is actually expecting more jobs to leave US shores in 2009. (http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9110329) Call centers will probably follow this trend.

The US economy, and to a lesser degree, the Philippine economy, will still be the main factor in moving business here.

tama ka dyan....ska it depends on the company kung preferred nila magoutsource sa asia kc sa cost ng manpower + quality of work.
