I've been reading a lot of threads here lately and i noticed that most of you guys are career shifters... This question is for the IT shifters -->> meron na ba sa inyong nagsisi for trading your job to an IT career?
I'm presently working as a technical support agent and i'm about to shift to IT as well (programming, to be exact...) I do love my job but then I feel like there's something missing because i know that it's not what i really want and also, dagdag mo na dun yung ayaw ko ng mag-take ng calls. I've taken BS-IT in college because computers, programming, troubleshooting or anything that has something to do with computers has always been my passion. but after graduation, di ko agad nagrab yung mga opportunities to work as an IT professional dahil natakot akong di ko ma-meet ang mga expectations sakin or di ko magawa ng tama yung job. so i started with an easy job wich is data encoding... dun na nag-start maubos lahat ng kaalaman ko about programming.
so guys, just give me an idea if you're happy with your present career as an IT professional or would you rather go back to your previous job?
thanks in advance! *okay*

here's my situation: ;)
i worked before in an IT Dept. pioneer person for the position so chances for me to be the Network Admin is so high but i gave up the position for $$$ realizing later that i should have stayed in that company for 2-3years knowing that i love most of the things i do there.
then i moved into callcenter/bpo industry which i find not enough for me based on what i like.
Now planning to go back again based on what i've experienced and what i love to do.
Hope it would turn out good for me this time.

here's my situation:
I became technician and then ended buying the shop where i worked. I made it an internet cafe, so i became a businessman of sort. At the same time, i was making my own program/desktop application for my shops. when business went down due competition, i left probins for manila. here i started from scratch, i applied to various companies (2003-2004, including accenture and various IT companies in ortigas and makati area) but seems i was not qualified but that was my fault i was not good in any interviews.
What i did is to find internet cafes who's hiring a technician. i got a job but at the same time i made POS for the internet cafe and its canteen for free. so they promote me to Operation Manager, here again my programming skills became stagnant.
and when the shop shut down, i had saving. I bought one computer (AMD) for single purpose I had to sharpen my programming skill. but eventually this Photoshop and other video editing software(vegas 4, adobe premiere, aftereffect, Flash) attracted me. And since i have already a market for these skills I pursued it, because it gives me money and sometimes a 6-digits in just 15 days, i can't get those digit if i am a level-entry programmer. so here again, may skills became stagnant....
but time to time, i self-study new skills (ajax, c#, flex, etc) hoping that i can use it someday.
and that day came, online freelancer. but it become on-and-ff because mas malaki kinikita ko sa ibang business ko kaysa mag program at maghabol ng deadlines.
but, the point is talagang gusto ko ang pagiging programmer, ayaw lang talaga sa akin. so malabong pagsisihan ko ang panahon na nagamit ko for my programming jobs or IT jobs.

ei good vision... if you want i could help you continue being a programmer kung tumigil ka na or la ka na work... IPC needs dedicated programmers just like you*okay* PM me for details...
sa lahat ng nababasa toh kung nde kayo natanggap ng **** nyong work tandaan nyo **** nyo yun kasi "akala" nyo maganda yun pero sa totoo yung magandang work na nasa isip nyo is only created by your mind... so since utak yan dapat dagdagan nyo ng puso kasi pag utak at puso nagsama for sure maganda kalalabasan nyan anu pa mang company kayo nagttrabaho*okay*
