Mejo mahirap sagutin.I believe it depends on the person's status. If you're an average Juan dela Cruz you would feel that a higher salary is much more important than a higher position. Syempre if you have responsibilities to attend to, mouths to feed, bills to pay you do not have the luxury to aim for a position that will satisfy you rather than your pocket.
It really depends talaga. Ako personally a higher salary is much much more important to me now. I have bills to pay eh.

(sana hindi naman ... ang title ng thread.)
usually a higher position translates to a higher salary.
and usually, the younger generation goes for "experience" or "job satisfaction"
but sometimes, you can get a higher salary in another company without having the higher position. A clerk in a bank may earn more than a supervisor in a retail store.
It boils down to the needs of the person and his family. Though in these times, not many need a high position. A position doesn't feed the family.

1. love of work
2. higher salary
3. position
1 & 2 can interchange depending on how high the salary is and on how much someone enjoys the work.

hehe.. i'm sorry for the title..i was actually multi-tasking when i did this page so i was'nt able to think of a good one..*peace*
honestly, i'm somewhat confused about what to focus on. higher salary is important for me 'coz i also have to help my mother in paying bills, etc. and mine as well. just so u know, i was a call center agent before. i was well-compensated and it really met my needs. it was my decision to resign from my work before in a corporate company because what i was earning there is really not enough, though the position is very prestigious. after 9 months of working as a call center agent, i've come to realize that it does'nt really satisfy my professional needs and i'm not getting any chance to use what i've learn.(just to clarify..i'm not against being a call center agent po ha!) i'm just not fulfilled though i can say that somehow i'm also enjoying my stay there because of my friends. i decided to resign and now i'm working again in a corporate company, holding a very good position. but my salary is not that high as compared to what i'm getting in call center.
so there, it got me confused because i want to get a higher salary but i also want to be fulfilled in my career. i don't know what to prioritize..

I've been faced with this type of situation before. I've chosen SALARY over the POSITION because I need money more than prestige so to say. I believe it really depends on the situation of the person. There are instances where people I know choose the POSITION over the SALARY and think of it as an investment because after gaining the JOB TITLE, they can use it as an advantage of getting a higher pay when applying to other companies.

Being practical, I'll go for higher salary than higher position. After all, we all need money to survive (lol). Pero, when you are to be asked by that question, you have to scrutinize which company will assure you of having a stable job. It doesn't mean higher salary will assure you stable job for a lifetime. Some or perhaps more companies (except multinational companies) which are not that stable offers better pay for a regular employee than to those managers from top 1,000 corporations in the country, but you might not stop worrying on what if you'll be laid-off tomorrow and entering again to unemployed world????

It all depends on your present needs. Kung medyo kailangan mo talaga ng pera to pay bills etc., then getting a higher salary is a logical choice. On other hand, landing yourself on a higher position equates career stability (and sometimes better pay, if you're lucky). It also increases your market value should you decide to look for another company to work for.

when i was younger, i prioritized "job satisfaction" over higher salary. that goes to say na mas preferred ko yung position and yung nature ng ginagawa ko...but lately, as i matured, mas importante na sakin yung salary, it doesn't matter kung manager ako or supervisor, ang sa akin lang mataas sahod sapat na sa akin yun....after all, we are all working for the money...not the prestige, dahil sa aking pananaw, when u have money, may prestige ka.....many will contradict but thats how i see things nowadays...

Kung career driven ka at ambitous you will prefer higher position because it will be a stepping stone for higher positon and salary once you apply in a better company. But if you are the type of person who hates the responsibility - you would choose salary. Like me i want to have my own business soon so i dont want extra load on my work or extra responsibilities kasi im planning to put up a small company and maybe go back to school - so i need cash.

well actually i got ur point..naiintindihan ko na nowadays, mas prioritized ng mga tao yung higher salary over higher position..in fact, dami ko na nakikilala na mga nanggaling sa mataas na position na lumipat na ng call center na as we all know talagang very competitive ang salary and benefit packages. i just dont understand yung thought na you will exert a lot of effort, spend a lot of money, study the hardest way you can para makuha yung position na dream mo eversince and then all of a sudden you would want to leave everything behind para kumita ng mas malaki. i certainly understand yung hirap ng buhay ngayon..i just can't imagine yung sacrifice na kailangan mong gawin para lang masuportahan mo yung pangangailangan mo..hay! now i really can see life's realities..:depressed:

wow.. that's great.. sana you'll be successful sa mga plans mo.. i also want to go back to school.. i want to take up masteral course if i have the chance na. and you know the reason why? higher position pa din..hehe. i dont know why but i always wanted to become a big person someday..siguro dahil sa past ko..gusto kong magkapangalan kasi wala akong pangalan eversince :)..u know..gusto ko talagang itaguyod sarili ko..that's why kahit na gano kahirap buhay ngayon and kahit gano ko kailangan ang higher salary because of our needs, hindi mawala sakin yung mag-aim ng higher position kahit na most of the time medyo mas mababa ang earnings..actually nahihirapan akong mag-balance..it's funny kasi i always tell other people na kung san ka masaya, dun ka..u just do it if your happy with it..pero as usual, kung ano yung advice mo sa ibang tao, mahirap i-apply pag ikaw na ang namomroblema..:depressed:

Higher position by all means because it gives you the leverage instead of the other way around. It will give you an opportunity to translate potential to actual achievement. The money will take care of itself.

It goes hand in hand the higher position, the bigger the pay the more complex one's responsibilty. For you take up higher position it means that management has fulll confidence in what you can deliver, thus translating it to higher salary...
Industry standards, One company might give better salary that the other. If you are looking for higher salary choose the best among the players. If you are aiming for Higher position be the best and recognition will follow. If you are leaving a Company for something better, be it position or salary, make sure that you are more of an asset than liability. It would make yourself more bankable.
