Guys, have you ever had the feeling that passing through exec search agencies and the likes are just a waste of time? They don't have any real power over employment and sometimes the "secret job" they're offering you is something you wouldn't have considered if you knew what it was earlier or if ever, you already know about the opening beforehand.

well you can't blame them. dun sila kikita e. kaya nga ako i steer away from ads coming from agencies/headhunters. i'd rather skip that step come jobhunting season....

I prefer to talk with headhunters. You can specify for them your prefered job, salary, location, etc... and they can negotiate your asking salary with employers. This is the most practical way for me, given that this is a direct hire.

going thru reputable headhunters is a good option especially for those holding managerial (ie senior management - VP, etc) positions.

walang mawawala kung mag-apply ka sa kanila. dagdag din sa options yan. they can find positions that are not normally advertised in jobstreet or the newspapers.

dun pa lang sa kanila, kikilatisin ka na, so if you're really good, referrals are quick.

ongapala, they are not supposed to charge the applicant or employee any fee, ma-hire man o hindi. they bill the company for "administrative costs" and similar fees.

my 2 cents...

It depends on the headhunter din... like everything naman in life, there are good ones and bad ones... the thing is you usually find out only by experience...

In my experience, I prefer to wait for them to contact me, instead of the other way around... that instantly gives me leverage as I know they are in need and I am in "control" of the situation. I never say I'm actively looking for a job, I just mention that I always keep my doors open for any new opportunities... etc.

You can separate the good ones from the bad ones sa initial engagement mo with them... their professionalism and commitment to confidentiality (for you and their client of course) is of paramount importance to me... The good ones usually have a keen understanding of their clients' needs and can see how you (the candidate) can meet those needs.

ang good and bad ay nasa experience ng applicant.

mahirap magsabi without proof dahil baka masabit pa. :)

I know a lot of headhunters and for me its more of an advantage rather than a waste of time. Think of it as connections inside reputable companies. Normally ang nag outsource *** ng recruitment nila are big companies. Besides wala naman fee mg submit sa headhunter. You will still be considered a direct hire. Just go to your interviews and if they think you're qualified then you'll know what company you're applying for.
