there are mixed opinions in this matter.
some say that we, engineers are affected by global financial crisis, but others say that we aren't.
what do you think? opinions? do you think the crisis will only affect those that are not professionals? or parepareho lang?
local and abroad...

Lahat ay apektado, directly or otherwise.

I'm an electrical engineer working in Sydney, Australia. Dito tuloy tuloy pa rin ang hiring sa mga engineers in the field of electric power transmission & distribution.

I think its better to break up what kind of "engineers" are "affected"... EE? ME? CE? ECE? IE? Comp E? CHE?
For IEs - mainstream IE's (production) not much except those in Semicon and Automotive, IE's are pretty flexible (can move around easily in diff jobs & industries) , so the impact is not much
For CHEs- depends on their industry, Cosmetics and manufacturing are still ok (except automotive & semicon)
For CE's - those overseas (especially in Dubai & ME) are hit, bigtime...some are already coming back here...as Construction took a tumble globally...project teams downsized (reduction of OH, highly paid expats/consultants)..on the local scene...so far so good
How about the others?

^^^That is correct!
Dubai scene status quo..
Nearly a thousand CE's have already been given "redundancy papers" and sent back to Phils. The Mega $$$ projects were simply canceled, or "put on hold".

ECE - semicon; oil and gas; and manufacturing are truly hard hit. Telecoms at field service na lang ang bumubuhay sa field namin.

n199as : ****? akala ko sa mfg lang nagkaka layoff these days...
pero ang projection by some analyst is by late 09 to mid of '10, magstatart ulit ang stabilization ng market or at the least makakabawi na ulit kahit konti.

ndi pati sa design company din tulad samin nagka lay-off... ang nangyari kasi nag backout yung mga investors dahil ata dun sa pagbagsak ng presyo ng mga langis.. hinold tuloy yung mga projects nila samin...
