Can anyone shed some light or truth to this?
We have heard of some call centres that do not even let applicants with nursing backgrounds to get past the initial exams like written or listening tests.
Kung hindi naman totoo, which call centres still accept them?
Sayang kasi there are many nursing grads who would make excellent call centre agents but are not given the chance.
Your insights please.
Thanks.

I am afraid there is some truth to this. This issue has actually been ongoing since the 2006 nursing board exam leakage broke out. Some, if not most, call centers have been on red flag when it comes to screening and accepting applicants who are nursing graduates. According to a friend who works as an HR specialist in a call center, the primary reason behind this is that these centers have experienced a higher attrition rate that is mostly from employees with nursing backgrounds, particularly the newly-licensed ones. According to my friend, these people take advantage of the V&A (Voice and Accent) training instead of enrolling in formal English classes as their review for IELTS/TOEFL. Obviously, this has been a popular strategy among the community of nursing graduates to save on tuition fees for English review sessions. With the proper English training in tow, they go on AWOL and pursue the said examinations. My friend also notes that from their evaluation, most of these graduates are far worse than the infamous call center hopper, fleeing from one call center to the next in as short as three months.
I'm not quite sure if this is still the practice of call centers or if this is still the trend among nursing graduates. It's disheartening, I know, as I'm also a nursing degree holder. But that's how it is. I guess you just have to prove yourself harder than the rest, and convince them with pride that you're the right man (or woman) for the job. I did, and this is the best career I've been in so far. Break a leg! *okay*

You can't blame din naman..gagastusan kayo for your training tapos iiwan pag nakapasa na ng boards or pag paalis na..hehe..

Thanks for the comments everyone. Keep them coming please.
What baffles me is that, these call centres (who dont hire nurses anymore), with their powerhouse legal departments have not come up with measures to protect the company from such practice.
For the call centres that still hire nurses, what have they done to turn this around and have the positive sides of nurses without getting left high and dry? They seem to have figured it out.

Some of the call centers does not hire nurses.
Some does.
I was a nursing grad. I applied to numerous call centers while waiting for the board exam result. I was blessed to be part of the company where I am with right now kasi yun yung first company na tumanggap sa akin sa five or six companies na inapplyan ko.. natatakot din ako nun na baka di ako tanggapin kasi sinasabi ko talaga na nagtake na ko ng exam nun.
However.... if you can speak good English, if you can prove yourself that you can be a top agent or good employee.. go ahead! :) kaya yan!

yung lalaking nursing grad, nag-resign on the first day sa Floor. reason? hindi daw nya kaya mag-take in ng calls! haller, bat kaya sya nag-apply sa CALL center?
yung isang babaeng nursing grad, umalis naman after another month or two (i can no longer remember) kasi hindi daw nagja-jive sa sked ng review nya yung sked sa work. hay... nakalagay naman sa requirements eh "must be willing to work on shifting schedules"
sa call center kasi, kahit kakaunti lang yung nursing grads na umaalis, the point is meron pa ring umaalis. this is something they want to prevent.
eh paggagastusan nila yung employee tapos pag nakapasa sa board eh siguradong aalis naman. parang ginagawa lang nilang pang-allowance yung sweldo sa training! hindi pa nakakabawi yung company sa mga ginastos for them!
maski ako naiinis e.

Well, some do not accept nursing student (undergrads or working student) since baka gawin lang "gatasan" yung company. mag-iipon lang and then alis na agad. Syempre, the company is looking for security of the people who will work for them.

Kasi nasa tao yan! *** iba kasi ginagawang palusot *** pagbagsak nila kesyo dahil "Nursing" daw sila kuno!

there are call centers who require their agents to be RN's... USRN's even.

Are you suggesting to have a bond in the contract to lock the employee to a certain period? That would create another complication... hindi po ganon kadali un... :-s

there are some BPOs who even prefer applicants who have medical/health background for their medical/health insurance accounts.
however, i can't blame the companies that reject nursing grads/undergrads... they are just protecting their business. History can repeat itself. It already happened in the past, several employees, that are nursing grads, who resigned because they "suddenly" thought to pursue their "career", where in fact when they were asked during the interview on how long they plan to stay and they gave a canned answer, the likes of "this is a life-long career for me..." :D
