I'd also like to know about applying for a job in HK.
There were several who I contacted, pero, they were all asking if I would be able to come for an interview. Mahirap kasi yung susugod ka nalang ng wala kang idea, maya hindi ka pala tanggap. So ayun.
Anybody who can share some ideas?:)

A colleague of mine worked here in IT and later on he was dispatched to Hong Kong even if he doesnt speak a single word of Mandarin or Cantonese. Im not entirely sure how one can apply for work in HK but as far as I know, similar to Taiwan you are required to be proficient in cantonese and mandarin, both written and oral :)

bump bump.
i am trying to get a feel of what need to be considered by somebody looking to move to hong kong.
apartment - i think apartments are not cheap. i have searched for information about Hong Kong and because i have not yet been to the place i can only guess. basically, i would like to work in the financial district and that would be in Central but would like to stay in a bigger apartment (3 bedrooms) because I have family without paying an arm and a leg. Would 10k HKD be impossible or is it ample? that basically means i will be staying far from Central so the rent would be cheaper. can somebody recommend a good area preferably not more than 45 minutes away from Central?
taxes - what is the income tax rate?
health insurance?
how much is a meal at mcdonalds?
how much is a good steak meal in a regular restaurant?
how much is a regular meal (between mcdo and a good steak restaurant?
how much is a pint of beer/ale in an irish pub?
how much do you spend if you cook a meal for 3 adults?
how much is the monthly utilities:
electricity?
gas?
water?
phone?
mobile phone?
broadband internet?
monthly transport?
thanks.

The income tax rate is a standard 16%, usually paid annually.
I don't know how much a regular Mcdo Meal cost there, but a meal in the fastfood usually cost around 20~30 dollars in average.
10k per month para sa house palang, grabe, ako nga kakagat na ko if somebody would offer me that as a job salary na there.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I have almost no idea how much would an apartment in HK cost. I based that on searching over the net and I can say 10k for a 3br apartment seems to be normal while I guess the cheaper ones will not be advertised on the net and would probably be found if one is actually in HK and searching for small apartment brokers. I have an idea on salary based on salary surveys available online (e.g., please check Robert Walters website). I think one needs to have basic ideas about "on average" costs like apartment + utilities + tax + etc. in order to gauge if the salary makes sense. I have family so I cannot share apartment nor stay in a studio type flat.

I think standard salary is around 10~15k already. Pag may special skill ka siguro more, pero ngayon mahirap na rin. But with 10k salary, buhay ka na. Unlike here, ang movie don 30 lang, ang food don, 25/meal lang. Pero dito, with 10k pesos, ang movie is 150 pesos, ang meal, 75 pesos.
If you would rent mga 10k na apartment, mag hulog na lang. I know someone binili niya unit, pero hulog hulog buwan buwan ng 10k. Tsaka it's okay if you would rather settle sa ibang places na hindi business district, ok naman po ang transportation don. :) Um sa utility I think mura lang doon.
I'd been thinking of going there rin to look for a work eh, I'm a fresh graduate and unfortunately I have no specialization. Natatakot ako kung susugod na lang ako and then look for a job, or magtitiis na lang ako dito sa pilipinas.
