Hello... sa mga HR practitioners dito... may question lang ako...

Kasi I'm currently looking for a new job. And kapag may interviews ako (phone or appearance), I'm getting uncomfortable kapag tinatanong ako kung how much ang current salary ko and/or kung ano ang expected salary ko.

I don't think they are asking this soleley for general info purposes. Parang they are using this to compute for your salary offer. Tama ba?

Is it even ethical/legal that they ask such questions? Especially yun current salary? Hindi ba dapat confidential yun? Narinig ko pa na yun ibang companies they are asking for the payslip... parang nakaka invade ng privacy.

I mean, it might be just me, pero the way i see it, the company should make an offer based on qualification, job description and potential. Not based on what I earned last time.

Do I have the right not to answer the questions regarding current/expected salary and/or refuse to present my most recent payslip? Paano ko siya sasabihin sa interviewer without arousing resentment?

If ever wala akong choice but to answer naman, how do you think should I answer it? directly or indirectly?

Share your thoughts naman guys... would really appreciate it. thanks!

well, it is simply a probing question. they would like to know your salary expectations and also by your answer you can show them that you really researched about the company. plus point kasi sa iyo iyon if maipakita mo that before the interview you did try to know the company and its policies, etc, etc. more or less most industries have their own salary ranges per position kaya you can really find out before applying naman para di rin masayang ang effort mo kung yung i- offer sa iyo will fall below your expectations. mas mainam if you can answer the question and you can do so at the same time highlighting your positive points para lalong maibenta mo sarili mo. remember, the interview is the time that you should make the most to show your skills, abilities and other positive ek-ek that you are the most qualified. researching will show them that you know your market value (if me work experience ka na). you can say, based on my research, I believe any offer would be a fair one. kasi "fair" would relay your intentions. then sundan mo ng pag-highlight mo ng qualities mo that are a match to the job that you are applying.example.. I believe my skills are a perfect match for the job so I expect ( name of the company ) can match it with a fair compensation too. unless pressed do not specify an amount but rather share your general expectations and you can also try ending your statement with a question like what is the company's salary range for the position. it will show them that you are negotiable. got the drift? need lang na i- phrase mo ang sagot mo in a positive way and always smile.

I specifically asked this question during the interview. The company needs to determine if the candidate's salary range fits with the company's range for the open position.

Providing a lower amount does not mean that the company will offer lower salary.

I asked the candidate to justify the big difference if the asking salary is 25% or more of existing salary. He/she may still be considered depending on his/her justification.

Main point, know your market value and stand by it. Do not accept a salary that is below your expectation.

BTW, i do not consider candidates who quote a salary below their existing salary. This just means that the candidate does not believe in his capabilities and is desparate to accept a lower salary no matter what.
