DBA is a high salary career. It take a LOT LOT of experience before you get the ultimate price.

Looking at you as fresh grad; maybe 3-5 years before you achieve but its a challenge.

Here's a tip study SQL Programming first before going to Administration. There are many developers/programmers that take advantage of some situation that they always BLAME DBA's why there application is too slow accessing the DB. It turns out later that their apps or programs is the one causing it. If you can read those SQL program logic then you have an advantage over them.

yan tama yan... try learning Oracle oracle forms, PL/SQL
mostly ang market ng DBA sa pinas is for oracle. meron rin sybase, teradata, informix, DB2 hehehe.

pero tingin ko importante rin mag aral ka kahit minimal lang na pang front end, although oracle forms is a front end already..

pero common sa pinas ang Developer/DBA which is pangit. kasi ibang iba ang theories involved.

maraming salamat po sa mga advice.. i believe tama decision ko and siguro ngayon, magapply muna ako as DB programmer then study administration at the same time.. hope gumana plan ko and maachieve yung goal/dream ko..

question lang ulit.. lets say, naaccept ako sa isang well known company na may magandang offer pero malayo sa career path ko.. then eto naman si isang company na steady lang pero pasok sa hinahanap ko, lets say DB programmer nga.. would you rather go for the better offer or dun sa experience na hinahanap mo talga? thnkz again..:)

what type of a person are you? are you a very careful person? very detailed? most of the good dba's i know have those qualities. if you make a mistake, your company will potentially lose millions while you're recovering from that mistake. it's a very different discipline from compile-edit-compile kind of work.

programmers are common; (good) dba's are rare, and command a higher price. get started early with your dba work - you need a truck load of experience to be considered a good dba.

i'm not downplaying developers - dba's and developers need each other to survive =) if you can get a "development dba" job - where you assist in NEW projects - that's better. you'll be at the leading edge of rdbms tech. some telco's in PH offer that kind of role.
as for "operational dba" - where you do the backend stuff like backup, monitoring, etc - you might eventually be replaced by automation software =)

hope this helps
