Is it true that around 100 employees under Sales & Marketing got the "pink slip" last week due to the merging of the 2 departments. Redundancy daw ang nangyari. The big thing is this is just a start. Mandate daw ng new CEO na si Ernie Cu. Any info? I personally believe that the marketing department of Globe is just too "layered".

Globe is restructuring the current business model. Expect more...
Not just for Globe but for the rest SMART, PLDT, etc. Telecoms are not affected by the during the big wave of the global financial crisis but they striked at the tail-end

Ernie Cu used to be the CEO of SPI Technologies way back 2001 and up. Don't know when he transferred to Globe.

I used to work for SPI when Ernie was the CEO. Guess what? A lot of us got laid off during his time. Of course this is not related to Globe. Maybe a coincidence that people get laid off when he takes over? :naughty:

Are they demoted salary wise or position wise?

As far as I know, salary decrease is not allowed in the labor law.
If this is the case, Globe employees should research the law and confirm.

Sa pagbabasa ko Ernie was an entrepreneur and most likely iyong visions nya sa company ay puro always getting the best out of X number of employees. Where X is a number; the lower the better.

HP has implemented a salary cut but since it from a Global direction and HP is a foreign company then Philippine Labor Law does not effect.

For Globe a Filipino company, they should have a labor lawyer if they belong to the salary reduction.

Applying Entrepreneurship on a company with a huge profit, will entail resources in this case manpower!

they just laid off around 200 employees today. including my husband who has been working his *** off for 8 years. very sad. they dissolved the call center operations and will outsource to their existing providers, such as alorica, phub and etelecare.

^^ Maybe the company is already losing money?

Again, this could be a huge coincidence, but I steer clear of any company where Ernest Cu is the CEO.

Article Date: July 31, 2009

ANALYSTS SEE TELECOMMUnication giants Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and Globe Telecom registering better numbers in the second quarter compared to year-ago levels.

Analysts interviewed based their projections on the continued expansion of the two telcos' subscriber base and the steady rise in the demand for wireless services.

Both companies are scheduled to release their respective second quarter performance reports next week.

"They'll be posting better numbers as far as PLDT and Globe are concerned," said Prince Anthony Yeung, analyst at AB Capital online, in a phone interview.

"It (second quarter profit) should be higher than last year because of their high subscriber base," said Richard Laņeda, analyst at Citiseconline.com.

Both analysts said PLDT and Globe's foray into the wireless broadband Internet service would boost their performance to new heights, as indicated by the growing number of subscribers to this service.

PLDT and Globe had contrasting first quarter results. PLDT posted an 8-percent drop in first quarter net profit on foreign exchange losses despite an increase in subscriber base and revenue.

Rival Globe registered a 17-percent jump in net income in the first quarter from a year ago to P4 billion. This was attributed to nonrecurring gains from an equipment exchange deal and some trading gains....

or making recession as an excuse to implement such thing. problem with new management is that they are very eager to show off at the expense of the rank & file.

not only the rank and file, there were several band Bs (supervisor level) who got laid off too and even a cluster head.

in the coming months, they will be laying off still.

IT industry is actually one of the best compensated career among other professions, but the downside of it is that, it has the fastest turn-overs / lay-offs among the employments around. Their task is basically to make everything easier in an automated way, but not realizing they are killing their careers because of such developments - my opinion. Companies would not dare to lay-off employees if they perform important functions, unless their tasks can be done without human interventions....

They are still making money. In fact, they earned higher than last year. Just read my thread above (with reference). Too bad to hear, but they made a lay-off which I think for them is an excess....

According to your post above, Globe earned more than they did last year, due to nonrecurring gains. I would be interested in knowing how theis regular operations did compared to last year, if the nonrecurring gains were taken out. That night explain why people are being laid off.

Globe's 2008 net income dropped 15% from 07. Company thinks this is because of dropping ARPU.

Just compare Globe and TM's ARPU versus Smart and TNT. They're a bit far, plus the PLDT group has more subs.

@ juzzforlaugh: my bro works for globe. he's a deparmend head, band c. i asked him about this and totoo nga daw. i mentioned na grabe ang media blockout sa nangyayari sa kanila and even joked na hinohostage ba nila ang media not to report this otherwise mag pullout sila ng ad. tumawa lang siya. hehe.

I also heard about this. Such a small world. people are really affected ---probably due to the crisis. But somehow, there is a positive side to this: it is better to trim down orgnization than closing down the organization, don't you think? At least there will still be people with jobs. Besides, this is not only happening in Globe, some big, even multinationals need to close down or cut the frillls.

@clone: Question dito kasi sa post marketing lang daw affected, or lahat ng department sa Globe may tanggalan nangyayari?

Well, hopefully Globe is doing lay off only for redundant roles and not just for saving money :-)

a friend of mine--her brother was affected with the said "layoff" of Globe, he got 190k php for severance package...

With regard to the pexer who posted about HP, as it is a foreign company. FYI lang po, even a company is not 100% owned by Filipino, or it has a mother company outside the Philippines, the law is, if a business is operating in the Philippines, it is covered by the Philippine Law (Labor Code, Corporation code, etc.) so your comparison is not correct, even HP (operating in the Philippines) is under the law of the Philippines with regard to labor (employer-employee relationship).

juzzforlaugh
Aug 8, 2009, 11:06 PM
would you know if severance package is included for the new hires? if ever! :)

and by the way, a friend of mine working in HP says that indeed HP is covered under philippine law so it means, the decrease in salary is not forced. i am not sure how they did it...

Of course, PLDT is way too big than Globe, but the point is, Globe is still earning kahit bumaba ang net income nila. It is too sad to hear that they are laying-off jobs based on some postings in here. FYI, just read in an article in Philippne Star today, stating that Globe is very interested to acquire new companies anytime - may crisis ba talaga sa kanila???? No companies would do such aquisitions kung kapos sa budget. Di bale sana kung ibebenta nila ang Globe, but Globe is eager to 'buy'....

fyi, globe telecom's lay-off plans:

before

200 - sales and marketing
200 - in-house call center

in 2 weeks
200 - guess which "group"
