Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or P.I.D. as we call it is an infection of the reproductive tract of a woman. The infective process has reached the fallopian tubes leaking into the pelvic cavity. This causes intense abdominal pain.

The most plausible route of where the infection has entered is still the vaginal route. Vaginal hygiene is essential to prevent this to occur.

Patients with PID usually respond to intravenous antibiotic therapy. In severe cases where pus has spread in the cavity already, surgery is performed.
