View Full Version : New yuppie in Makati

shybabe

Hey
I'm a fresh grad who has recently accepted a job offer from a consulting firm in Makati. Everythings gonna be new to me from commuting ( is there a shuttle I can take from the ayala station to ayala ave?), dressing (my company seems to insist on power dressing), to eating (where is the best place to eat?). Since I live and studied in QC/Pasig, I really don't know much about Makati... except when I visit the malls! :teehee: What are the things I need to know as a new yuppie in Makati?

Congrats, fellow Makati-dweller! Join the chat thread, Makati Workers Dito Tayo!! (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=25534) and see who else work in Makati.

Yes, it costs P10. It does not pass Ayala per se so you'll go down at Dela Rosa at the spot nearest to your place.

dressing (my company seems to insist on power dressing),

There's a thread on that. Calling Leigh... :beam:

to eating (where is the best place to eat?).

It's baon for me! Cheap and healthy. Check "Lunch Out or Baon?" (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=10474) and "Cheap eating in Makati CBD?" (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=25941) for more info. If you want to go out, check Must Try MAKATI - Restaurants during Lunch Hour (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=31688).

Good thing you mentioned the MRT - don't bother driving and parking unless you're in Sales and have to go around.

Hmm what else would you want to know? I've been working in Makati since 1995.

Welcome to the yuppie world! By any chance, are you working for Accenture? If you are, magka-building tayo. Let's have lunch one of these days!

Shuttle - Yep, there's a shuttle from the Ayala Station to Ayala Avenue. When you go down the stairs, turn right. The shuttle station is located at the parking area in front of Where else? Ask for the Ayala Loop shuttles - the first stop of this shuttle is Tower 1. The Legaspi Loop goes around Legaspi Village. Don't forget to ask the drivers, they don't have signs on the shuttles. This costs P10.

Dressing - There's a thread on that already. :) Try to go to Black Shop, Sari-sari and if you like girly clothes, Kamiseta. :)

Eating - If you're with Accenture, the Ayala Tower 1 caf is the way to go! Cheap but good food. :) Baon is also an option, at least you don't have to leave the office, and you don't have to spend. Food choices in Glorietta is also okay, but since it's far, I guess this is just a once-a-week thing. Try to join us our Makati Workers EB's, oki?

Would be good to have a BPI Account - there are BPI branches and ATM's everywhere! :)

Yup.. I'm a new analyst at Accenture. Cge lets do lunch.. :glee:

So do I go down sa Tower1? Is this near MSE na? :uh:

Is this the same bldg u mentioned as the 1st stop of the Ayala loop shuttle?

Thanks, Caramba... hope I'm not too makulit... :blushing:

Commuting: you can take a bus going to Buendia and it will actually stop by the MSE area. it's about 9 bucks from boni to MSE :)

Dressing: (zimdude, Leigh is here to save the day!) -
Shops that offer the Best office attire (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=23715).

Eating: Caramba and zimdude are the masters for food stuff in Makati :)

hmmm...what you need to learn about Makati? That you are near the PEX office, actually i can't think of anything right now :)

May 21, 2001, 11:40 PM
We're one floor below lang, fourth floor kami. :beam:

Tower 1 is the tall, pretty building near the fountain area - the fountain area is between Tower 1 and MSE. So medyo lampas na siya, but it's okay.

Same building for the lunch. The caf there has okay food with okay prices. The caf is on the second floor. Make sure you wear your Accenture ID so that you won't have a problem getting in.

No prob, is there anything else you wanna know?

Maverick
May 21, 2001, 11:43 PM

Ako din, new yuppie in Makati! I work in Citibank.
And I still am so lost in Makati. Where can I find cheap places to park?

CaRaMBa
May 22, 2001, 06:15 PM
Ice Burn: WALA! Hahahahaha! Sabi ni Leigh, sa Park Square, P20 for the first 4 hours, hindi ka aabot ng P80 for the whole day. Sa Gabriela Silang, P80 for the whole day. Dito talaga sa Makati better if you don't have a car eh.

Yeah I know! I found one near Citibank though, P70 for 12 hours. Pretty good deal! But I only bring a car on Fridays so pwede na.

Mikoid! That is a great idea! Sali ako diyan! :)

Di ba the Ayala Land-run parking lots have this deal for parking lots? Like, you pay around P1000 a month for parking, kahit magdamag ka doon pwede? Well, at least that's how it is sa parking lot in front of Makati Medical.

There are a lot of decent restos in Esteban St. which don't cost an arm and a foot. If you're near the place, try them out. There's also one in Valero St. which I recently tried, Pollo Negra, which is directly in front of Il Ponticello. The food is terrific, and they're priced very reasonably.

Doc, not sure pero wala yatang ganun na set up. Maybe for employees? Pero sa amin wala. :bawling:

Another good place to try in Makati, according to blair mitch, is Salumeria, which is in Perea St.

So how are you doing?
Isn't it hard to be shy in consulting? Or you're working around it...

Get your coworkers to post here! I should get mine... hmm... Leigh where's our corporate promotions program.... hey that's a topic of its own! (Won't hurt to post naman, for a good cause diba? )

Another thing to know, which I forgot to post:

The PExers who work in Makati usually plans one lunch EB per month. We had one yesterday - sorry I forgot to post it here! You might want to join us next time. :) Sabay sabay na tayong pumunta since same building naman tayo. Hmmmm are you still in the Phils?

shybabe
Jun 1, 2001, 05:18 AM
Zimdude: I just started work last mon and the various posts I read about Ac are true. I like the collegiate atmosphere but the workload is staggering! Sige I'll get my newfound friends/co-workers to post here. Oh and so far my "shyness" is not a liability coz I seem to be spending the whole day in front of the computer!

Caramba: Sure...just tell me when  It's funny how you asked if I'm still in the Phils... On my 1st day pa lang, I was informed that I'll be goin na to Chicago for training in 20 days!? Is that the company's way talaga?

Since you just started last week, I'm sure you still have a lot of things to discover and realize with life in Accenture. Yes, there will be sleepless nights (though, I doubt if they had you working that hard this early), but there will also be days of "rest and relaxation". The projects are varied, and so is the type and amount of work. Life for one Accenture employee can be different from another.

Yes, the organization typically sends its new people for training in St. Charles, Illinois. Pero, typically lang, not always.

Anyway, I hope you find your dream career in Accenture! :)

CaRaMBa: ok naman. I've been trying out various modes of transportation... On my first day, I took the Ayala loop but missed my stop. It doesn't pass by Tower1 ata ... so took a cab na lang coz I got lost. So now I just go down near Allied in dela Rosa and take the underpass. Going home, I tried taking a shuttle in the MSE parking lot but it doesn't pass by my place pala. I also tried the bus but a cockroach flew at me!?! :shedtears: So now I'm planning to take the bus but ride the MRT in Buendia. What do you think?
Me and my friends tried the caf in Tower1 on our first day. You're right the food is affordable yet appetizing. Thanks

Maverick: yes:toofunny: The company I was assigned to is into Chemicals. So far we've been having training so I don't actually know yet what I'd be doing for the project.

Chad: Thanks:*) Yes, I'm with the MSO.

:bluefish:

CaRaMBa
Jun 5, 2001, 05:11 PM
shybabe: Naku, that's the Legaspi Loop. Iba talaga daan nun. There are always two lines for the shuttles - one line is for Ayala Loop and the other one Legaspi Loop. To be sure, ask the driver kung dadaan sa "Philippine Stock Exchange". Don't say Tower 1, they might think you're going to Citiland Tower 1. (Ehehehe that happened to me before.) Promise this is really so much easier.

Favor, can you email me your celphone number at caramba@pinoyexchange.com? Maybe we can have lunch one of these days. When are you leaving for the US for training?

yup, ok dito. aside from the fact na tawid ka lang glorietta na :D, bago pa yung mga facilities, mas mabilis elevators at mas malamig. ang drawback nga lang eh medyo malalayo ka sa friends mo na naiwan sa MSE. pero i'm not complaining. maiko-compare mo yung setup dito sa 6750 sa accenture offices sa states, particularly sa dow alliance center sa southfield.

Hi Peeps,

Bakit ngayon ko lang nalaman na nag-E-EB pala kayo once a month dito sa Makati???

BTW, I can see from the posts in here that most of you peeps are working in Accenture. Well, I applied there once and told me that they have no openings that suits my previous work experience. Right now, I am already employed and working in a call center based also here in Makati.

So far, the only people I can remember here when I was still applying in Accenture is Maverick 'coz i think he's also from Mapua. Does accenture have call-center clients that I may also apply at Accenture (again)

Shybabe: walang mura sa Makati pero with the compensation being given by accenture, I think you can survive here in Makati. Ako kasi e dito sa Jupiter kumakain at dikit-dikit naman dito up to Makati Avenue.

Hi!

Looks like the TWF Gimmick on Dec. 13 (Thursday)- Streetlife at 7pm (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=70344) is it. It's for the entire The Working Filipino community. I won't make it though, since it's our office party then.

If the "Business Club" meeting would be in Makati as well, then that would be it. I'm looking between Christmas and New Year for that.
