bittersweet_hun: I don't have company, nag-iisa ako. :shy: I work as an Independent Software Developer others call freelance programmer. My customers are my bosses, sila ang nagpapasahod sa akin. Going indie gives you freedom to choose projects (SVI people, are you listening? :)) but it isn't easy. You have to know your programming tools, the application domain, computers in general and marketing pa! Sometimes you have to respond to emergencies like a doctor or fireman. Ever wondered why someone in TechToday calls himself mamangbumbero? And sometimes, you'll feel overwhelmed because of information overload. But, overall, it is satisfying. I get to join gimmicks of employees of my customers, I get to meet more people, be at more places. In essence, it's like being employed by several companies and life is much more interesting.

bittersweet_hun
Jun 6, 2001, 10:09 PM
krakista: Pangea - the firm that deals with fiber optics and broad band. hell no! i ddnt know that right away- i checked it on the web! hehe. y? what's with Pangea? yeah, am in portland right now, giving myself a good 2-month break. ;)

ako din ... we developed computer software and do consulting as well. Our office is in Legaspi Village, Makati :)
Pero meron din ako sideline. like krakista, i develop software for other companies. minsan sa mga small scale businesses like furniture shops, condos, etc. usually accounting, inventory, billing and collection systems ginagawa ko.
webpage, medyo medyo pa lang. d pa kami expert dito e.
at least diba, while earning on a regular monthly salary, earning on your own ka pa din. :)

bittersweet_hun: That's not the Pangea I'm talking about, it's the other one with a -comm. Can't talk about that further here. So you're into OOP? :)

If your "software house" includes back end and embedded systems, I'm in.

Keep it up Terry.
oooops.
Okay, I'm into web too, for now. It's not what I really wanted, I prefer hardware interface programming. But it's good to learn a new thing.
Backend database access through a securely encrypted dynamic web page. Pretty much like WAP.

*: Initially, I got attracted into going the indie route simply because a friend of mine was into it and I saw what it's like. What drew my attention was that you could build something once and sell it many times. My friend actually gave me a headstart as I inherited his source code and some clients as he later got married and migrated to the States.
Before you get started you must have ready-made base applications and a client or two who pays you monthly retainer fees. Since you will be living off your savings at the outset, having these monthly retainers should take some pressure off. If you need some programming tools and source code for applications, I can GIVE it to you. Just email me. :)
