yup, gowin. a schematic model or drawing of an invention that satifies the requirements of "novelty" and "nonobviousness" of patent laws can be patented.
a patent is a grant from government that gives an inventor the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, importing, or offering an invention for sale for a fixed period of time. after the patent ends, anyone can freely copy the invention.
a patent is a form of personal property and can be sold outright for a lump sum, or its owner can give anyone permission to use the invention (license it) in return for royaltly payments. a patent can also be transferred by gift (for example, to your favorite legal adviser), will or descent under succession laws.
