View Full Version : Wanna have a Working Filipino EB?

What do you guys think? We can just have an informal lunch or dinner so that we can get to know each other.

An EB sounds great, but how about something similar to what Entreprenuer magazine is doing?

They have networking night. Here, experienced business men get to meet budding entreprenuers, people get to network and guests speakers are invited to talk and answer questions.

I know that takes a lot of marketing muscle and money to pull off, but I'm confident that the PeX community, especially the moderators can pull it off.

Great idea ducksoup! We can talk about this during our first EB. Also we have to make sure that people are going to go. Thing with PEx is, most of the members still prefer to remain purely online. :)

ducksoup: that is what the Business Club is about. We've had one meeting on that last year, and it was way more serious than I expected!

If it's just a getting-to-know-you EB, surely yes, an EB is in order!

Caramba,

I'd love to go,and I'm sure a lot of Working Filipino regulars are for the idea. But, is the EB going to be a one shot sort of thing?

zimdude,

Thanks for telling me about the Business Club. Sounds interesting. Is the business club an exclusive group? Do they still have meetings? What is the Business club all about? Is it a PeX sponsored group?

And,I pretty much know what you meant when you said that the meeting was way too serious.

Meetings that involve business types can be too rigid. I once attended an 'informal' gathering of small scale businessmen and farmers. The meeting was an experience I would never forget. The company was stifling;everyone was talking about how much copra and coconut they were going to harvest.

I was there because I was told that the attendees were all passionate about new ideas. It turns out, new ideas meant adding more people to their already overworked group of farmers.

I hope the EB will give guys like me the chance to meet people who are as enthusiastic as I am in seeing new ideas push our economy towards proseprity. And old ideas are great too, provided that they do not exploit our hard working labor force.

Don't worry, zimdude. We'll have fun at the EB.:)

yipee, EB! :)

We can have it something like an EB-small networking, for now, maybe not like the Entrepreneur magazine yet...siguro small get together first :)

lalo na for the regular posters :) as far sa i know, a lot of the regular posters haven't met each other in person yet :)

Maybe, you can use this thread as a sign up sheet.

You know what would be great? Invite a few venture captitalists to the EB. That way, I can make a pitch for my anti-buni,anti-alipunga,anti-balding apricot scrub.;)

The first Business Club had the friends of nix who were passionate over what they were doing and talking about that night. I was guilty too, I prepared an overlong presentation!

So on to the never-before-held The Working Filipino EB!!

Well, if it's a light get-together, I normally wouldn't go. :) I'm the type of guy who would "network" with strangers at a friend's birthday party...

But given that it seems most of the people going are nice, friendly people, I'd be more than willing to show up. :D Besides, I think it might help this forum a lot if people started meeting each other.

Hello, aticus

It's nice to hear from you again now that we're off the virtual island. How's everything?

Nice and friendly are the hallmarks of PeX members. I've met many PeXers on these boards who have helped me with offline concerns. I've been given helpful second opinions by practicing physicians on medical related problems, business advice by succesful entreprenuers and computer related 'tips' by self-taught computer technicians.

Yep, we will all benefit from an EB. I look forward to meeting everyone who is interested in going. But, I want to make a suggestion: can we schedule the EB on a weekend? And can we have lunch instead of dinner?

I'm doing fine, ducksoup. :) I just have to get through some stuff at work, and I should be ok for the day.

Why not a Working Filipino EB in a pool? :) Like Splash Island? Or even somewhere like Subic?

Nothing makes working people happier than not working. :D At least, as long as they're not as crazy about work as I am...

Well, what's everyone's budget? :) You can find anything in Makati, but the more stuff you want, the more you have to pay. :) We can meet anywhere from the Glorietta food court to Makati Shangri-la.

May 30, 2001, 05:00 AM
It really depends on what you guys want. Let's decide on the date first, I think that's more important.

By the way, we're going to have a Makati Workers' Lunch EB tomorrow (May 30) at Salumeria, along Perea St., Legaspi Village, Makati. Please try to be there at 12NN. :)

Hi Guys and Gals,

So, you're discussing about putting up or running a business club, huh? Count me in ... let me know when & where will be the meeting/s :D Am from the IT industry.

My idea for a business club is to foster synergy among Philippine companies ... bind them together and face the stiff competition globally ... In the IT industry, we have to face India ... and so on ... :p

But, of course, the group must be open to clean fun and the likes :|

How about someplace in MegaMall? Payday weekend sucks, especially in places like El Pueblo. :) (Not that Megamall is much better, but at least there are tons of options, and people can even watch a late movie if they're really "friendly." ;)

Another alternative could be Shangri-la Mall. More "sosyal" but it's quieter and I would expect it has less people.
