Aside from your job, do you have a sideline?
A means to get extra income?

Me--i have a tutoring job aside from my Teaching Job. The Pay is good and I love it.

I am enjoying what Im doing and parang mas malaki pa yata ang kita ko sa sidelines ah..... kaya lang, I cant leave my present job and concentrate with my other personal businesses.

Tutoring job?

basically mas ok kung referal, kasi you know you can trust the person and hindi mahirap pagdating sa singilan...

and besides..there are so many kids in need of GOOD tutors ngayon. Ang dami kasing tutorial centers na crap..as in money making scheme. No Quality whatsoever..I know because I have worked in one. The tutors are overworked but underpaid ahile the owner of the center is filty rich.

cookiemonster
Jul 6, 2001, 08:00 AM
the thing is I am having a problem with getting kids to tutor eh. i tried giving out flyers before bt no one responded. usually schools have tutorial centers like you said, and parents usually get tutors from these centers because the parents feel these tutors are good since they are sorta affiliated with the school.
just wondering how you got your tutorees. do u know someone from schools who referred you or just friends who refered you to their friends' children?

I started tutoring for free, joining school orgs that put up tutorial sessions. Then, people get to know you and started to ask for special tutorials. These are the ones that really need attention on tutoring. After a while people will start referring you. ;)

Maybe you can start with one of those Tutorial Schools. They don't pay enough but you'll get credentials. Actually, you can join networks thru friends and relatives. They're the best ones who can make referrals to you. :)

Hmmmmm... seems a lot of people are tutors. :)

Why not form a PEx tutoring club? :) I know Bostsip and Yuga personally, and I know they can teach well, so I'm pretty sure if you folks banded together, even informally, you can increase your networks tremendously. :)

For instance, someone like Bostsip can teach Science, but if her students need to learn specific computer stuff, she can refer them to Yuga. Yuga, on the other hand, can refer people who need Bostsip to Bostsip. :) That's how networks grow.

Me, personally, I don't do sidelines, but I am often invited to be a "guest speaker" (read: Free) for schools and/or organizations. I used to be a teacher and now find that I have the itch to teach again, even if only informally. :D

In any case, good luck to everyone with a sideline! ;)

just wondering how you got your tutorees. do u know someone from schools who referred you or just friends who refered you to their friends' children?

I started with a referal. My mom had this friend whose daughter was having difficulty with reading. I was just in first year college then. I was after the experience and not the money. Hindi nga ako binayaran...gawd.it's so challenging to teach reading to pre-schoolers kaya!

After that, I tutored in a small time center near our house. Super small time. I was only paid 50 an hour.. and even if i tutored three kids in one hour..50 pa rin bayad..i had to quit because i was getting burnt out..

Now, my tutee was refered to me. I only accepted one tutee so i can really focus my attention on her.

aticus is right...it always starts with networking. When people discover that you are a good tutor..they'd be the one who'd really go to you and they'd even ask you to name your price. I could have easily asked more but my conscience cannot handle it ;)

Hey Aticus ..your idea is nice...
what do you think of it yuga?

yuga
Jul 11, 2001, 06:54 AM
I started tutoring when I was in first year college. Some friends who had hard time in Integral Calculus were lining up for a one-hour session every week. Then, I headed the Academics Committee in the Ateneo Dorm for two or three years. Halos every night i have students asking for tutorials ranging from Chemistry to Philosphy. That's aside from a regular classroom type tutorial that I arrange every T, Th, Sun. Yet, all these were pro bono. :)

Then I get referrals from students outside the dorm, some friends of my tutees while others are referrals from other teachers. I don't really have fixed rates but I usually get somewhere between P250 - P350 per hour. :)

The rest of my sidelines was in video editing where I only charge P100 - 150 per hour. Some are pro bono pa rin but they'll send me a cake from Red Ribbon or a box of cookies from Mrs. Fudge after that. From time to time, I also get programming projects in some depts in campus or at that time very lucrative business yung mp3 so I sell a personally-selected mp3 CDs for P250 a piece. Daming kong raket dati nuong college. Enough to sustain my allowance nga eh. :D

And until now, I do web development, consulting, multi-media and sometimes web design tutotials.

Anyways, that's a very good idea Bostsip. Maybe we can form a Club of sorts. Anybody else interested?!! :D

I'll join your club, Yuga and Bostsip, but I have very, very limited hours. :)

I can, however, help you find tutees, I think. It all depends on how we promote the whole thing. I would like to tutor people on public speaking, debate, presentation skills, and/or sales and marketing. But, like Bostsip, I think I'll limit the number of people I tutor, if ever. Too little time... :)

At the very least, you have my support in spirit, if not in actual physical presence. ;)

seems like we have a number of people who are interested to tutor. I guess we have already covered one aspect..which is networking. As long as we have a network, we can never run out of clients.

maganda sana if we could have talked about this nung summer. we could have organized a workshop of sorts for kids who might be inetersted..like a day for IT/arts/academic

what if we organize a College entrance review session????we are all professionals here..and i believe that we all came from reputable schools..

hi. i think that 6400aday@getresponse.com is worth a look. selling stuff is great for students and selling is, i think, the most important skill one has to learn. and i guess you better learn it while in school, even if they don't teach it to you!

when i was in school i sold used stuff, guitar parts, trading cards, billiard sticks, food, whatever. it was fun and it never occured to me until recently to include these things in my resume.

(i also sold stuff for other people--pets, used cars, etc., and basically networked throughout the university. i haven't even heard of referral or network marketing then!)

selling makes for good money, since you won't be spending your own. and, you're always your own boss.

Work from home and enjoy the Freedom...

LESSON 1:
Introduction To Get-Paid-For Programs

Today, there are dozens and dozens of web sites on the Internet that will pay you money to perform some type of task. That task could be as simple as clicking links on their web site, or as involved as downloading their software and running it each time you want to make money while online.

In almost all cases, the companies that pay you this money are the "middle-men" between you and advertisers. Advertisers pay these companies to reach you with their ads, then the companies pay you a portion of their profits. That's the concept behind these Get-Paid-For programs - simple profit-sharing!

As mentioned above, some of these Get-Paid-For companies require you to download and run their software to be eligible for payment. When run, their software usually displays an advertising "bar" that takes up a portion of your computer screen. This bar continuously displays ads from the company's advertising clients. Most companies pay at different rates and use different formulas to determine what you've earned. One thing they all have in common is that they are essentially "renting" a portion of your computer screen from you!

The advertising "bar" was the original method used to make money while online. From there, other companies have come up with creative ways to share their advertising profits with you. Here is a partial list of some of the other tasks companies have you perform in order to make money:

click on links in emails
simply receive emails
click the links on their search engine
use the free web-based mailbox they provide you
listen to Internet radio
use a web site's Home page as your browser's Start page
sign up for free stuff

GOODLUCK

To enhenyero and cpham, if you want to make money with a network marketing business why don't you join an all filipino network marketing company? This is better because you know that the owners are'nt just gonna leave the country after a year or so. Also, unlike in other companies the money isn't being taken out of the country to make foreigners rich since it is a local company. In fact our network company is opening branches in other countries, it already has one in Hong Kong. If you're interested just txt me at 09198546183.

hello. it is obvious that our basic salary from our job isn't enough. with this, people have taken the option to have a few sidelines here and there. it's simple, do you have a sideline? yes or no? if you want, you can say a little more than that.

my answer:
yes, and i'm earning a little more than my salary in terms of my sideline alone.

OliverWood21
Nov 1, 2004, 09:50 PM
^^ what is your sideline, then? :D

If my sideline is earning twice as much as my full time job, then that is the time that I would call it quits..

Sa ngayon, I have to admit that its really hard not to have a full time job unless you are running a good business.

i have a few sidelines. i take a few offers of 'freelance' and other businesses that might interest me. my salary isn't that big, so the difference isn't that big either. i'm not sure though if i'd like to quit my job if i'm earning way more than my current salary. i would like to see what else the world has to offer me-- work to learn basically. a job's a job, full time or not, time management is key if there are sidelines involved.

i'm just interested in how you can be a voice talent? My friend really wants to do that kind of work but we don't know where to start. I hope someone can help, at least a contact number would be great. :) Thanks

Ako kasi very entrepreneurial from the start eto po naging mga sideline ko

1. Selling of snacks - mga chips cookies candies and some fud stuff
2. Renting out of vhs - uso pa noon dati puro XXX ang malakas saka yung scandal ng isang model basta puro audult movies ang hinihiram sakin.
3. Insurance - nagbenta po ako nito but not very successful
4. Multilevel marketing - tried selling alternative functional foods
5. Dollar exchange - Malapit kasi kami before sa isang hotel and sa akin sila nagpapapalit ng dollar to peso

it's a protocol po for breeders to have the papers ready bago pa man ilabas ang tuta sa kennel...

also, the vaccines should always be included. pero syempre, if you will get the pups as early as 3 months, may mga vaccines na kailangan mo ituloy.

based from experience ko na rin, its better to have the succeeding vaccines kapag nasa bahay na ng next owner. kasi dun na mismo yung magiging environment nya.

local husky pups range from 15k (male) to 17k (female). those with really good pedigree, mostly 30k up.

:)

PS
lahat ng images na napaste mo, galing sa wikipedia right? naalala ko lang sila nung nagreresearch pa ako about sibes.

and about pagiging "mahal", law of supply and demand na rin po siguro. saka if you want to be a dog owner, kahit askal pa yan, dapat ready ka sa gastos. lalo na kung susundin mo lahat ng diet regimen, vet appointments, maintenance...

:)

Meron kang ibang breed? Dachshund o kaya chowchow?

chowchow? yan ba yung "asong bear"?

Full-time yan pag nagkataon. :D

Or better yet, gawin mong business ang parties, i.e. party hosting, mascots, tables, chairs, food, balloons, etc. *okay*

buy and sell items online...most of the selling sites are free, just post away.. Either 2nd hand items or brand new, basta anything you can possibly sell. Baka may mga items ka sa house niyo na you don't need..if there's none, maybe you can ask relative or closest friends if they have items they want to sell through you..(anything!) ask for 10 to 25% share if the items is sold. ok na ok na yun! ;)

Try Ebay or set-up a multiply account.

im a preschool teacher. after work, i tutor kids. its actually a nice sideline considering that a teacher's salary is low. i can't let go of my full time job though because its fun. Tutoring is easy but there are times that it can be tiring especially if the kid is so slow. There are also times that you are not in the mood anymore to tutor after work. Btw, rate of tutors today is 350 per hour ;)
