Hi, I'm a Filipino who recently became US Citizen. I'm planning on returning to Manila and getting a job there. I got my Computer Science degree in the States and I'm in the IT field for the past 3-4 years. I know I won't be making as much in Manila but still willing to apply there. What companies should I apply for? I'm assuming I have a better chance for the multi-national companies and the fact that I need to get a working visa. What are my chances of getting a job there... whether getting paid in Peso or Dollars? I only plan on working in Manila for about 2-4 years just for a change of lifestyle.
Any suggestions or pointers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

ivanagga,
a family friend who worked at KPMG as a consultant for 3 years decided to go back to the Philippines for good. she used to work for oracle phils b4 coming here to the US. she gave up her privilege to become a permanent resident here since she was homesick. she didn't care about money since she was doing well financially and still single at her 40s.
anyway, she never planned to work when she gets home to Pinas 'coz all she intended was to get some rest and a break. but somehow, with some networking, she ended up getting a consulting job at ADB and getting paid in dollars, from what i heard anyway, she makes $500/day or something like that. as far as i know, she gets paid very, very well. come to think of it, she's spending php. in her case, she's a local but gets paid as an expat because of her US experience.
after hearing her story, i was thinking of becoming an expat myself. :)
Why not try sending your resume to the Manila headhunters? Ward Howell is one of the most influential ones. The ex-pat jobs I've come across are usually in a supervisory role, so it would help if you have management experience. The market for Philippines-based expats is rather soft right now, but it never hurts to try. If the economy were to pick up, you'd have better chance of finding something quickly. Good luck.

I'm looking to go home permanently myself in a year or so. Expat status is my goal as well.
Q, would like to get more information (contact info, etc) on Ward Howell and other exec. recruiters. just to open the communication lines, you know.
thanks!

Hep Hep!!! Wrong move if you're comin back here for an IT field and expect to get very good compensation. Well.....there are exceptional instances - -such as $500 a day?!
Anyway, try to visit www.computerjobs.com.
There is a salary survey there that might be very helpful.
Pinas has a great pool of talent for the IT race. Although you can't expect information technology to be paid the same rates as first world countries do. Well actually, that's true for allo other jobs. Your call.....

I work for a tech company (understatement) but i'm in marketing/strategy. so i'm far from being an IT person -- 9+ years marketing experience with mba. i'm as tech savvy as betty consumer. if i go home, i can work in a management role in any industry with a few exceptions
you're right, it's my call. that's what i hate about it.
thanks for the url. will check it out.
