I am just curious if your College Career Placement Office helped you one way or the other.
On a personal note, some companies called me even if i didn't apply - am sure that it was because of the placement office. They have these directories of graduates that they send out to different companies.
Tell us if it helped you get your dream job.

I actually got my job through my College Career Placement Office. I got so many interviews through them from every single top notch Financial firm on the Street and beyond. In my school, we have a website where we upload our resume and there's a list of positions and companies coming to campus and we can submit our resumes electronically. When we submit electronically, it does not neccessarily mean that we're going to be interviewed. They sift through the resumes and pick ..say 20 ppl that seem to match the qualifications. When you're picked, you're asked to choose a time for you interview with the company through the website. The website gives us updates and reminders and job descriptions for the given interview. I started interviewing as early as the middle of the first semester of Senior year. Most top companies interview early and make offers by the end of the first semester. It's not uncommon for a senior to get job offers as early as august even if graduation is in May.
As much as our Career Placement Office was somewhat helpful, a lot of the people i know curse it to hell. I had an experience where i was picked as an alternate for an Ibanking interview with Credit Suisse First Boston and they emailed me that i was already in the 20 picked to interview with CSFB. When i went to the website to sign up for the interview, i couldn't schedule my interview. I felt really bad because i wanted the job or at least, be given an interview. I know this may sound like i'm sourgraping, the guy CSFB picked from my school is an idiot who know has a beautiful apartment in Nolita and earns at least $60,000 a year!! :p what if i interviewed, right? hehehehe but i guess, i did have my choice of interviews and offers to match and i am in some sort of dream job. at least, i didn't have to worry about finding a job after graduation. i already had offers as early as december and i accepted the job offer i'm working at around end of Feb.

Yeah, our placement office helped me somehow 'cause I got my first job through our job fair. Our job fair was okay - there were a lot of companies, and a lot of industries too. But it's different now - I think the main complaint of the students right now is that there are only a few industries featured, unlike ours before.
Our placements office also organized a lot of talks. They invited representatives of different companies to give talks to the students.
Our placement office kinda yabang though, they sell the resume directory to companies for more than a thousand bucks. They're proud that companies really go out of their way to buy it, unlike other schools daw that give it for free.

When I graduated from college, i was literally swarmed with letters and telegrams (uso pa noon yon). The college placement office did a good job in distributing our names to companies. Laking pasasalamat ko, i got my first job because of this. Hay...those were the good 'ol days when a dollar costs only Php26. Ngayon...I'm virtually begging the companies to hire me.:(
Sana, they could also help alumni long after they graduated...
btw, my school is the only Royal, Pontifical, Catholic university in the philippines established in 1611, oldest in asia, older than harvard.
