Time magazine had an issue on yoga with cristy turlington -- current yoga poster girl it appears -- on the cover.
there's a diagram for the "sun salutation" exercise which is supposedly a good starting point for anyone interested.
i dont know if the issue is available online. but get a hold of it. it explains the scientific facet of yoga -- that underneath the mysticism lie physical and physiological proof that it really does your body good.
ommmmmm.............

Are there any tapes/ VCDs available for yoga? Which one is the best to buy for beginners? Where can I buy them?
THANKS!

My face still crunches up ugly in a difficult pose. Hence, all that practice. As in any other sport, the pace of your development in yoga only depends on the amount of time you put in to practice.

whew, PePs! i feel like i do need 15 years! how long have you been doing yoga? :)

nag-take ka ba muna ng beginner's yoga o diretso ka na kaagad sa Astanga Yoga?....
may book o video tapes ka ba na ginagamit n'yo sa pagyo-yoga?
:)

It's better if you attend a class rather than watch a VCD or read a book.
The teacher can correct your posture on the spot, which the book and the VCD can't do otherwise. If you don't do it right, you might hurt your lower back (very dangerous!) or even break your bones or overwork your muscles. Yoga meditation can be done alone. But "power yoga"? Methinks it should be done communally, unless you are already an expert at it.

thanks dudung and PePs ! :)

how much do have to pay to attend beginner's classes ... ano un? pay per class? kc i dont have much time to go to classes ... i got this article abt yoga from an old seventeen magazine and ive been trying to do it once in a while ... it feels good after like ive actually done work on my body but then im afraid i might be doing it wrong coz my back hurts in some of the positions ... but it could also be bcoz we have a hereditary tendency to have back problems in the family ...
hope u cud help, i really want to learn how to do yoga coz it seems to take a lot less stress than regular exercise ...
thanks in advance!

hey...the model in that article is my classmate. she's a great yoga student!
there shouldn't be any pain when you practice -- if there is pain during the session, you must be doing something wrong. get yourself to a class soon, girl!!!
about the weak back -- a weak back is just weak abs, if you work to strengthen your abs, you work to strengthen your back.
stress? yoga takes away all my stress when i do a class, plus those little naps at the end of the class will really help you re-charge!
your classmate? really? how did that happen?
well, whatever about that. i guess i should go to a class or not do yoga at all coz i might get myself hurt.
but then i really dont have time to go to a class and i thought yoga would be good exercise for me because it doesnt necessarily take much time or energy ...
-sigh-

wow! that was so informative and interesting. may I just ask which one you (peps) would recommend for getting fit?
I took yoga lessons before under an indian teacher named Dada. it was at a little place along esteban abada in QC (near Ateneo and Miriam collages). it was ok. talagang one posture after another. didn't really like it then because i wanted something more active. do you know about the lessons being held at COD? thanks, peps

Isa pang tanong, puede ka bang mag-yoga kapag may period ka? Ang pagkakaalam ko kasi sa pilates eh bawal, hindi ko lang alam sa yoga.

I love this thread. You ARE the yoga guru, peps. :D
How often should one do yoga? Advice naman, guru. I go to the gym at least 3x a week, and would like to fit yoga in at least twice a week. Is that enough?
Does anyone know any QC places that hold yoga classes? I am so interested.
I have this yoga VHS, by Karen Voight, and it's really helpful. I find improvements in doing yoga a lot more satisfying than improvements in weight-training. Galing talaga!;)

Hi, I'm interested to take yogo lessons but don't know what kind. I'd like to try the most basic yoga, if there's such a thing.
Also, can you suggest where I can have the lessons. Anywhere in Makati or Ortigas. How much, too per lesson.
Thanks! Looking forward to your replies.

How is it? So far, I'm enjoying Body Balance which i heard from one gym goer, is more forgiving than athletic yoga. Medyo mahirap day athletic yoga because the poses are held for longer periods and mas advanced ang asanas. Tama ba?
