does anyone here knows where pilates class is offered? Where and how much?

I heard kasi na it elongates d muscles, therefore muscles don't get bulky.

pilates is a very popular "workout" for models and ballerinas. i'm actually also interested. i heard my friend took a pilates class somewhere along katipunan. you can also try the manila polo club, i believe Sofia(? the only daughter of Don Jaime) Zobel has a dance school and i think they offer pilates.

i tried this workout and the results are really fast... it does involve a lot of stretching. the good thing about pilates is that you don't have to do a 100 or so repititions, the most you have to do is 10. it's very easy...and very effective :)

I started to do Pilates around five or six months ago and the results are amazing. I've got re-definition of the muscles in my lower body which had been non-existant since quitting competitive soccer and distance running which is fantastic :beam:! The increased flexibility is great as well and has made yoga classes more fun than painful!

Definitely recommend this form of exercise....you'll discover muscles you never knew you had when you stretch them .

Pilates is great for targetting those specific areas. It's really fantastic - along with some specific ab work I do with a Swiss Ball I've finally got some semblance of abs!

Try Body Studio in Renaissance. That's the closest one to the Libis area. For 8 sessions, its P3000.

anyway, does anyone if it's offered in the alabang area? i know there are schools in makati and also in the north

i'm interested because i took up advance ballet before and i know it wouldn't be hard for me to adjust :)

ive been doing pilates since forever and i have to agree with everyone here. its truly very effective, and another thing i like about it is that it makes you stronger without the bulky muscles. this is especially nice for petites like me =)

since im a student, i dont get to work out as much anymore but i try to do the matwork on my own. its risky, i suppose, but just be cautious and be very aware of your posture at all times and youll be fine. but of course, nothing beats having a one-on-one trainer.

oh, and dont forget to breathe right! =)

which is better ba yoga or pilates? i was thinking of joining a group class on either yoga or pilates but i was wondering for a newbie like me which is more recommended. i just want to tone my abs section.

i actually bought myself a "crunch fat burning yoga" to just try it out and just to get a feel before i enroll in the gym. i have to say i was sore :( but i felt good though after the workout.

i haven't tried pilates though but ive heard so much about it.

I have, since starting pilates, become quite proficient on the Reformer Machine and am able to do alot of the core-stability work with the added effort of a magic circle. If they offer Group Reformer Classes in the pilates studios in Manila, I definitely suggest that people give them a go.

I have one of those Pilates home videos, so i do Pilates at home. It's supposed to be good for the back and the abs raw. Medyo mahirap siya at first..pero after a while you get to do the hard exercises with a lot more ease. It feels good afterwards, you feel more energized, and super straight posture ka pagkatapos...

work on your balance first. most injuries arise when folks have poor balance. they tend to overwork their muscles. balance, proper breathing and smooth motion.

Hi,

Pilates is recommended for those who have scoliosis. My friend takes classes with Cecille Sicangco. Cecille used to be the lead soloist for Ballet Philippines and one of the first to be licensed to be a pilates instructor. If you enroll in a pilates class, make sure that your instructor is licensed because pilates deals a lot with your spine and it might get really ugly if your instructor is not properly trained.

Cecille Sicangco's studio is at Puso Reposo. It's along Reposo St. in Makati.

I do Pilates at home. I just don't have the machines for it. But I got the bands and ball and mat. It works pretty well for me. I also tried the vcds of diane ramirez. they're ok. the impt thing is, my midsection is toned at all times. I save money and travel time by doing this. People say I look leaner and longer. Just what I wanted. :D

hi people!

WOULD YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY THAT ELASTIC, STRETCHABLE BAND which is usually used in pilates work out? band lang sya, as in, parang rubber na stretchable. usually, nilalagay yun sa feet, tapos hihilahin mo ng arms mo, so para may pressure.

any info? thanks in advance!

Artemis
Dec 15, 2003, 05:16 AM
It's locally available at most GNC outlets. Includes 3 bands of varying resistance and an exercise tape. If you have the discipline to work out with it for around 30 mins a day, then i think it's a great buy. :)

Wow! I cannot believe people actually pay that much money for a workout, especially the one on one, very expensive. Mag-jump rope na lang??

My yoga instructor charges only $24/month twice a week pa yon. Pilates here cost $12 per session or $100/ month unlimited sessions . So if you do pilates one on one, you're looking at spending about $100 a month there in the Phils.

Yoga works better for me than pilates, I don't know why. I am more 'sore' after my yoga workout rather than when I do my pilates, maybe its the teacher? Mas masrap ang feeling ko the next day after doing yoga.
