Hi. Forgive me for my ignorance but
what's the thing with accenture.com and andersen.com?
Thought it was only ac.com back then.

In these matters, our fellow PExer tr|n|ty is most knowledgeable. Let's wait for her explanation.

Hi Johnny ! I think i can clarify your Q. It's a long story then but to make it short, Accenture is formerly known as Andersen Consulting (which was also known as AC and who owns www.ac.com way back 1996-dec 2000). Andersen Consulting used to be the consulting arm of Arthur Andersen (I think they've changed their name to "Andersen").
Due to some legal actions, Andersen Consulting was separated from Arthur Andersen and Andersen Worldwide. The $14 bllion arbitration case between the two companies lasted for years... Andersen Consulting won the case and paid only $1billion instead of $14billion and they were required to fully stop the use of the word "Andersen" in all their business transactions. Starting January 1, 2001, Andersen Consulting was reborn as Accenture. That's the reason why www.ac.com is now www.accenture.com. It's the same company, the same people, the same environment...
That's what basically happened. As for Arthur Andersen, I can 't speak for them why they replaced their name with "Andersen". :imu:

ac.com was the URL for accenture's website when it was still known as the firm whose name we don't mention anymore . because of the much-publicized split between the arthur andersen worldwide organization and the firm whose name we don't mention anymore, several rules were put into place by the arbitrator to outline who gets control over things the two entities developed together. the arbitrator ruled out that the name andersen consulting (oops!) belongs to AAWO, so andersen consulting cannot use andersen consulting nor the initials AC, anymore, starting january 1, 2001. prior to this date, a massive rebranding effort was made to make the public, specially our clients, aware that our organization now functions as a separate entity from AA. it was during the course of this campaign that the name accenture was born, and accessing the ac.com website will redirect you to accenture.com. :D
now, i don't see the ac.com website up. AA can still use the name andersen consulting since they own that name.

do i hear my name? :p
i will just quote this from my post at the accenture thread
uy calling all accenture and AA-SGV people!!
uy shempre napa sabak naman ako di ba?
ok ok..sheesh
Andersen Consulting now Accenture used to be the IT consulting arm of Arthur Andersen LLP. Accenture offers a range of products that are technology related including outsourcing, alliances and venture capital. Long before the Tech bust of 2000, AC was making most of the money for Arthur Andersen. Being confident about the arm's profitability, they decided to be a totally different entity from Arthur Andersen. Breaking away from the AA family, the AC group lost in its battle to keep the Andersen brand, thus the name change to Accenture. This was how i understood the whole process...not that i work for either of the two hehehehe As for Arthur Andersen(soon to be Andersen), it is a professional services firm which includes Assurance, Business consulting, Corporate finance, Human Capital, Legal services, Risk consulting and it's main thrust for Tax and Audit Consulting. It is part of what the business world calls the "big 5"(which also includes PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Ernst and Young, Deloitte and Touche, KPMG)
ayan..as for AA changing to Andersen...they needed brand equity
lemme quote the huge orange and white poster in front of me right now
"Not just a last name but a lasting name"
whatever that means :p
hope that answers your question.

i will try not to be defensive but Arthur Andersen is not purely a consulting firm, so Arthur Andersen will never be called Andersen Consulting. It will be simply called Andersen.

... there are rumors that AA will use the name Andersen Consulting on one of it's business ventures... i'm not sure if this has materialized since i'm not from AA either.

Before applying to Accenture, please think twice about it. It's not as exciting as what they advertise. There's a surplus in employees and most of us are unassigned. Walang ginagawa. As in nakakabobo na!

it's sad to hear your status angst. i've known lots of staff who have undergone your situation but they've waited for the right project and are now enjoying their jobs (mostly onshore projects)... projects kept on coming... i suggest that you should also talk with your counselor regarding your insights. i know it'll make things better. :D
for DarthScully naman, here's HR-Recruitment's address: manila.recmgr@accenture.com --just in case you're still interested. i'm not sure of the openings, just ask HR about it. :)

That's right. I'm being paid to do CBTs and surf the net. :( And I'm not happy with it.

I'm afraid this discussion is moving away from the thread starter's original intent, which was to discover the difference between AC, Andersen, Andersen Consulting, and Accenture.
If you wish to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of working at Accenture, there's a thread for that:
why/why not go to Accenture? (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php3?threadid=32021)

I went through the same thing for 3 months. Trust me, those CBTs will come in very handy once you're deployed. I've been deployed to two projects already and the CBTs I took are very, very helpful.
Patience pare. Rome wasn't built in a day.
