Recently, there were talks about a long holiday break ( am actually surprised that nobody has started a thread about it yet) what are your thoughts about the pending Dec. 24 - Jan. 2holiday break?

As far as i know, government employees will be entitled to the long break but for private employees, it really depends on their employer.

Your Thoughts?

Well, if I'm going to think about my own personal well-being, I'd go for the long vacation.... I mean, for regular employees who get paid during holidays, who wouldn't want this?

However, we also have daily-paid employees and my heart goes out for them. Everyone badly needs money during the season, and it would not do these employees any good if they will not get paid for the long holidays.... Somehow I could understand the situation they're in.

If an employee's schedule will allow him/her to have a long vacation during Christmas, then they can file a leave application anyway, and enjoy a long vacation. However, for those who want to earn during the vacation, they should be given the option to be able to do so....

President GMA announced during the All Saints day holidays that she is thinking of making December 26 to December 31 a week holiday.

If you are going to think of it, the monthly earners will benefit on this proposal since they will receive their full salary. On the other hand, let us not forget the daily wage earners who practice the "no work no pay" policy in their respective employers.

According to the President, this is the time when family can get together and enjoy the yuletide season. At the same time promote tourism.

But, how can a typical Filipino family enjoy the holidays if they don't have enough money on hand? Do you think they will enjoy the week? Okey, they have the money to spend, but right after the new year, what comes next?

I need to solicit your opinions on this issue.

Well, personally yes, but we've lots of daily-paid employees, and if they don't work, they won't get paid.... so for them I'd rather not have this long vacation....

Personally, I would want a long vacation, but I can always apply for a vacation leave so I can go on vacation if my schedule permits, but how about the others? During Christmas season, the daily-paid employees need the money, as much as we do, so I feel bad for them. :(

I agree with Fairy_nd_meadow. The long holiday break by December/January would mean a nice time going home in the province and spend the season with the family and friends. :)

But its not complete since most of the laborers today have daily rates and have to attend work throughout the week if possible.

At the same time, there's that news that some employers cannot able to give the primary benefit of being employed - the 13th month pay bonus.

Let's hope for a merry christmas to all the Filipino workers...

rains_delight - i actually merged your thread with mine, we usually merge the newer one to the old one :) sent you a pm.

For pay per day employees, having no work during the holidays is going to be hard, even with the factory owners, they actually have to know now, if it's required coz am sure during Christmas they do a lot of rush production.

With the tourism thing, last November the President did this already and i think it was a good idea, but with Christmas...it seems like we're pushing it too much.

I personally would like to have a vacation, but...ah...i don't have anywhere to go yet.

okey lang sa akin siguro if she will declare december 26 as a non working holiday para naman maka rest ang mga tao and january 2 for the same reason. Pero yung one week, its really a no no to me. I have a lot of deadlines during year ends.

If this is true then... inggit ako! :(

I work for a company that's online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and as such, everyone here goes on shifting. Hindi kami apektado ng holidays, we can't and don't go on those breaks. *sigh* :depressed:

On second thought, if this IS going to be declared as non-working special holidays, then I'd at least be thankful to be getting holiday premiums for the whole break. Yippeeee! :toofunny:

One thing that's good with my schedule is I have flexi-time. That means i can just off-set any absences with longer hours or extra days. And since we have a TAS (Timekeeping Authorization Slip), I can basically have free days as long as I can give an account of how I spent my time.

So for the Christmas break, I can say I did ocular, I pulled-out clothes etc.

Oh, parties can become photo-shoots, both of the party itself and the food. :D

Hmmm...does anyone know of major parties that will happen? I really need photos for next year's Christmas issue. :D

heard the news...
it's been declared...
2 long weekend holidays
december 22 to 25 and december 29 to january 1.

i dunno if im going to be happy about this but im sure december 26 up to the 28's going to be really hectic for me since im in the banking industry.

the underdogs here are really going to be the daily wage earners though. how can they happily celebrate christmas and new year when they would still have to think about where to get the dough to buy food for their families? :(

President Arroyo declared December 24, and December 31 as non working holidays.

It's okey. Kawawa naman kasi yung mga daily earners eh. :(
