Do you believe in volunteer work, full time or part time? Are you willing to devote your time, talent, skill...to be of service to others? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of others?

Kindly post here any volunteer work you know, may it be full time, part time - for a day or every weekends. Please include a brief description of the volunteer work, the names of the contact persons and their contact numbers. Thanks :)

Maybe the The Working Filipino regulars would like to pursue this kind of noble endeavor

I will watch this thread. I have been wanting to do volunteer work for some time now. It's just a question of which one and where it is.

I'm sure a lot of TWF regulars (and irregulars :D ) would love to help out din...

Yup. Me too. I'd love to do some volunteer work after my class every Saturday.... I haven't done volunteer work ever since I graduated from College, so I would like to devote some time helping others.

I hope the others would post some kind of volunteer work that we can participate in. :)

Hi everyone!

I would like to respond to this post by saying that I know of an organization that really needs volunteer workers. :)

The Organization is called the Philippine Institute for the Deaf. They are a school that teaches the deaf to speak, as in orally and verbally. No hand signs.

Right now, they are in the process of creating textbooks and workbooks and other educational materials. They need artists to work on illustrations, some people to do some encoding, and other jobs that are required in the production of such materials.

Also, they are preparing for their Christmas program and later on their annual recital/play which they perform with other celebrities.

I know they also need people to do social work (because they have indigent students)...

I guess I've mentioned a lot here, so for further information you may contact: Christine at the Philippine Institute for the Deaf. Telephone numbers: 564-0156/26.

Thanks in advance.

Rachel

Hey guys, wanna form a Volunteer Group? This is was suggested to me by another PExer, orcom_dude. He wanted to make it into a club. But I think he's kinda busy so I haven't received the detailed proposal yet. :) Maybe someone else wants to be his co-head or something?

I was able to talk to someone from DAWV, it's an NGO for women. They need volunteers, especially those who can train these women for their small businesses. I'll try to look for the contact details so that I can post it here.

I do the financial audit of the cooperative. My duties include cash count, performing the bank reconciliation, checking all accouting documents. One of the messengers of the cooperative do bring all the documents to be checked and I do it at home. Every Saturday before I go to my personal clients, I spend at least 2 hours for the report. Although I have a staff there, but I see to it that all auditing procedures are being performed.

My father became one of the members of the board of directors in that cooperative. My mom became head of a commitee.

You can't believe this guys, they all started in 1961. Since then, the officers are all volunteers. The efforts are fruitful, they are now earning P2,000,000.00 a month.

Hi I'd love to volunteer. If there's any pex outreach activity, please inform me.

As for those who are LaSallians here, COSCA will be holding their yearly mini-olympics for special children on February. Recruitment of volunteers for this term is on-going until Friday. Please pass by the Chess plaza if interested :)

It will definitely be an enriching experience for you.
Hope to see you there :)

I'm a volunteer at the animal shelter in Chicago. I usually work 3-5 hours a day, at least 3x a week. I wash, clean and exercise the animals. I clean their cages and fill their bowls with fresh water.

For those who wants to volunteer, here's another one from Aidababes. Again, her email add is: aidababes@edsamail.com.ph.

Aida has the biggest heart in the world. She has been doing this for years. She would really appreciate it if you can help her even just for a few hours a week.

Thanks folks......
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A HEARTFELT MESSAGE FROM AIDABABES.

Dear Friends,

I have been very busy lately with so many
activities - and I need some help. Please
read through and let me know how you can
help me in one way or the other:

1) Fund-Raising for Out-of-School Youth

Our foundation, Working Hands, was chosen
to market the Salesian's Golden Jubilee
Commemorative Album (in CD form) entitled
GOLD. This is an 18-song collection of
liturgical and inspirational songs arranged
in various musical formats from traditional/
choral to Backstreet Boys style, on a limited
edition and truly a premium collector's item.
Each CD sells at P425. Part of the proceeds
will go to our scholarship programs. It's a
perfect gift for all occasions.

2) Salesian Lay Volunteers Program (SLVP)
Our Yuppeace Community has been tasked to
help organize the SLVP. Thus, some of us
are involved in most of its multifarious
activities:

a) PUGAD - a drop-in center for streetchildren
We need volunteers who can counsel, tutor, feed,
bathe, monitor, or take care of streetchildren.
This is located at the Don Bosco Parish Center,
Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City. Right now, we have
fifteen (15) children taken out of the streets
of Metro Manila. We also accept donations.

b) EDUCATIONAL/FUN DAY with BILIBID Kids
on 18 Nov 2001

We are bringing about 50 kids, children of
BILIBID prisoners, to Luneta Park, Museo
Pambata, and the Planetarium for a whole
day of educational and fun tour. We need
volunteers to help us monitor the kids
and make the day a happy and memorable
one for them. Donations in the form of
gifts or cash will be appreciated.

c) HANDICAP DAY on Dec. 9, 2001
We are spending a day with handicapped people
or PWDs (persons with disabilities) on Dec. 9.
We need volunteers to assist the PWDs in the
program and games we have prepared for them.
This is going to be held at the Savio Park,
Don Bosco Technical Institute, Chino Roces,
Makati City from 7:30am to 5:00pm. There
will be an orientation for volunteers on
Nov. 17 and 24, same venue, from 2pm-5pm.
We need donations in the form of gifts
which we could distribute to the PWDs.

d) EDUCATION/LITERACY PROGRAM in Bicutan
We have an ongoing education/literacy
program for both adults and children
in Bicutan. We need tutors or teacher
assistants to help in whatever subject
one is adept in - kahit simpleng ABC
lang. Classes are in the evenings and
volunteers are required to assist once
a week only.

Apart from any support you can give me,
may I also request you to forward
this mail to your colleagues, friends,
and relatives and help me spread the
joy of Christmas!

Maraming salamat!

Aida

Or if not just inform me, I'll sign you up :) Just make sure to come on the date and update yourself with other important dates like the orientation.

Alert...alert: Volunteer addict in the house!!! Hey caramba!!! Wassup? I was at the Halloween Party but I didn't get to say hi because you're too busy.

Anyway, going to volunteer work, people, I work for the volunteer program of UP. I've been so addicted to volunteering for as long as I can remember. We have a number of programs here but the thing is our volunteers come from UP only.

BUT...don't worry. As caramba mentioned, I've been thinking of putting up a PEx Volts (short for volunteer) Club (see...may name na...this is really serious business guys...hehehe). The thing is work's been really really crazy especially my sked so I haven't emailed caramba the finalized details yet BUT I have a number of programs lined up already.

In fact, leelayce already sent me a PM telling me that she's interested to co-head the group or something. I suggested that we kickstart with a Christmas party for a streetkids institution since it's Christmas naman and it'll be much easier to get donations pag kids ang beneficiaries.

Whaddya guys think? I really really want to get this thing going. I just don't have the quality time to lay out the plans formally.

Comment, suggestions, reactions, please email me at ucbboy@hotmail.com

I will be posting the concept paper of the PEx Volts Club soon or I will email it to master caramba. Expect it soon, Caramba.

Take care everyone!!!

:)

Count me in guys. I've been itching to do volunteer work for the longest time but didn't know how to go about doing it. A PEx Volunteer Club is a great idea. Go for it, orcom_dude. I'm sure there are are a lot of PExers who'd support a club like this.

CaRaMBa: Hehe! Actually, leelyace (thanks!!!) sent me a PM telling me about this thread so I didn't waste any time and visited this thread asap.

Also, sorry for not introducing myself during the party. It just seemed that you were toooo busy with things when my friend and I arrived. I think the party was about to end already. Anyway, it was a great party. People looked good in their costumes and Hiraya was also great.

Ooopps, I better stick to the topic. Hey, I'd be needing your help or any Mod's help (if you're too busy...-you mentioned before Leigh was interested too, right?) in promoting the PEx Volts Club. Expect an email from me either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. SUPER SORRY!!! It's just that I've really got sooo much work!!! Ang saya-saya!!! Mwehehe!

Meiji: THANKS so much for starting this thread.

Everyone who's interested to be part of the volunteer group, we need to organize a meeting to discuss the details of our FIRST project (what project? scroll up a bit...) if ever. Please email me or post here for comments, suggestions, reactions, etc.

Take care everyone!!! It's another Monday!!!! Wuhoooo!!!

I think this is really great. To those who are interested to help out and be a volunteer, congratulations peeps! You just took the first step in making a difference in this society.

Hi guys, I started a thread for the Pex Volunteers' Club. I asked Ada where I should place it, and we agreed to post it in the Family, Friends and Society forum. If we place it in this forum people might think it's only for professionals.

We're looking for people who are willing to be part of the CORE GROUP. The members of the core group will help out in planning and organizing the different activities.

Please note that being willing to help out in the activities is different from being part of the core group. To be part of the core group one should have time and dedication, for something that will be year-long.

Anyway, hope you can visit the thread.
