What are the characteristics that make a "good" or ideal boss to you? Would he/she be someone who is intelligent, someone who motivates his/her staff well? What about those who likes to delegate and leaves everything up to you? What about those who are so "hands-on" that you don't have any free hand in anything you're doing? What would you like your boss to be?

i like bosses who lay their cards on the table from the get-go. they tell you the objectives of the project, what needs to be done, the deadlines and a clear cut path of what he/she wants. The problem with some managers/seniors/bosses is that they think that everybody is on the same wavelength, i think there should be an assumption that people are coming in here with a blank slate...everybody needs some kind of background along with a definite goal. Bosses should also be able to motivate and delegate the work among all the team members in a given project. I also HATE bosses/managers who play favorites..we are not in high school anymore?!??!?!
I know this may sound sexist and kinda weird coming from a woman, but i actually prefer Male bosses over Female bosses. Female bosses are just too darn b|tchy and very...hmmm...emotional. I had a manager before that was just way too bossy and b|tchy for me...ugh. hated it!!! quit the attitude!!!!!!!! on the other hand, the male managers i have worked with were very professional and will tell you the bottomline. i like that. to me, the most important thing in a project is the bottomline. no bs about this or that.

An ideal boss who will support me and defend my ideas to the top management.
He/she should be a result oriented person. I mean someone who does not interfere with my personal life. There are bosses especially the Filipinos who participate in office gossips. Fortunately I have an Australian boss who does see me as his accountant and he is only after the results of my actions. He does not mind if I came late and what I do after office hours.
He is also a friend who does not create a communication barrier between him and his subordinates.

Someone who cares and understands,
Someone who teaches everything s/he knows
Someone who doesn’t expect you to be the ideal person that you are not
Instead supports to become just that.

Know what trInIty? I feel the same way towards female bosses... and because I've experienced having female bosses in the past. Somehow I seem to have worked better with male bosses.... :p

I like a boss who is very decisive, thinks fast and if ever he makes mistakes, admits and makes up for it.
I like a boss who can delagate work but not be too "bossy".
I like a boss who also knows how to listen.
I like a boss who loves his job.

A boss who is competent, provides direction, and understands how hard I work.
I'm happy to say, that's the kind of boss I have now.

- someone i can have a good working relationship with
- someone who will motivate me, encourage me, tell me off and discipline me at the right times
- some who will encourage my career growth. yes we work to make our bosses look good, but that doesn't mean they won't do the same to us, diba? :) a good boss would see that, and do that.
- someone who is a good person at heart. my boss can be a really good businessman, but if all he/she sees is money, in the long run i wouldn't want to work with him/her. there's nothing wrong with "knowing money, and 'taking care of' money", but if that's the simple bottomline, sorry, i won't look up to you (lalo na ngayon pasko na, scrooge!). thus a good boss would be able to balance the business aspect with the more personal aspect of life... labo ba? ... oh well :)
