Kaya dito na tayo, I'll start the ball rolling...82/81,CSA pending, 2interviews,1 rejection, 20 applied programs, lahat IM sa New York. By the way, post your messages in Tagalog or Taglish, para alam kong totoong Pinoy ka. ;)

11 kaya medyo mahirap makakuha ng visa. so far ang feedback ng mga PD na nakausap ko, konti nga daw ngayon peo mas magaganda daw ang scores. ang number ng IMG is down from as high as 14,000 in 1997 to 6,000+ last year.. ako nga pala 239/231/CSA/B1B2... so far 7 interviews, 1 rejection out of 20.. wala na akong datung eh. madami pa din naman sa NY na hospital na nangangailangan ng tao. sabi nila baka daw hindi kukuha ng Indian sa NY dahil sa gulo pero I think pareho pa din. tama ka nga jawo.. kasi mukhang 90-95% ng IMG sa NY eh indian :). goodluck sa inyong dalawa.

Good luck to all of you. It's true that there are still some programs in NYC that are taking IMGs but times are much tougher now. When I got my slot in '93, my program - internal medicine then pulmonary/critical care (UMDNJ-New Brunswick) took about 3 to 5 IMGs a year (out of over 30 slots) but now, we don't even interview IMGs unless they are exceptional.

My only suggestion would be to apply for other programs like psychiatry and anesthesia and if you don't like it, it is always easier to switch to another field when you are already in the system and have proven yourself.

Ako October pa, pero 3 replies pa out of 20. Sabi nila, August or September daw mas OK mag-apply, mas marami invitations. Pero mayroon pa raw nag-iinvite even January na.Well, there's postmatch, scramble. Hintayhintay lang Tsong, tsaka isa pa, baka hinihintay pa nila Step 2 score mo bago sila magdecide.

Salamat sa iyong reply. Dapat lumabas ang resulta ko within mga two weeks. By that time, may idea na ako kung ayaw nila sa akin at kung kailan ko magplano na sa scramble. By the way, sino ba sa atin nakastep3 na?

Salamat ulit.:D

Kamusta kayo dyan? I'm the same boat as you are...i'm trying to get a residency position this coming year but I only took step 1 (waiting for the result). I'm a fresh graduate from UERM. I already started to study for STEP 2...plan to take it on early February.
It's been getting tough to get in to residency here in states...passing the exam is not enough:( ...madaming indians nakaka 90's....very competitive. well...good luck to you all! WE CAN ALL DO IT.

Coz they eat, drink, smell, digest(but never excrete) books. Meron ako nakilala sa isang forum, Indian, he got 99 sa Step 1 coz he read Robbins..yes the Big Robbins..from cover to cover. Kaya nyo yon?He also practically memorized Snell. Right guys;)

For Step 3, well that's fine if you wanna get H1B visa. Problem is Congress is contemplating on reducing H1B visas by 2/3, so I guess mas less ang opportunities. But you can still get J1.Di naman requirement Step 3 apply for residency.

Ito ang parte ng e-mail na ipinadala:"Thank you for your application to our residency training program. Due to the limited number of positions and the large number of highly qualified applicants, acceptance has become very competitive. I regret that this response cannot be more favorable, and unfortunately no action can be taken at this time with your application.
We appreciate your interest in our program and wish you well in locating the opportunity you desire. Sincerely, etc"

Sounds like a rejection letter. Would definitely NOT count on this program.

Sounds like a rejection to me, lately they are getting more creative... I think siguro they want to keep the door open in case they don't fill all their slots during Match day.. BTW, which program is this?

Hopefully we'll all get more interviews pero considering na Dec. na baka malabo na din. Good luck guys. BTW, I have an interview coming up sa St. Vincent sa Connecticut, baka meron sa inyong pupunta doon.. Kita kits na lang tayo.

The letter came from U Texas-Galveston.

Good Luck to everyone guys.:D

kailangan natin buhayin ulit itong bagong discussion list. all the more that sinara for now ni Andreas Carl ang usmle.net dahil sa mga naggugulo doon. Ang update lang sa akin ay I still am waiting for interview invitations. 4 na rejections ko out of 30 na pinadalhan kong application. 26 no news at all. lumabas na ang step 2 ko at automatic na ipinadala sa kanila, though hindi ko alam personally kung pasado ako o hindi. i feel i passed pero i feel na mas mahirap siya kaysa step1.

that's it for now.

Got my first interview in IM in a New York hospital. Interviewed by 3 faculty members, all went pretty OK. No clinical questions, all that is being asked are questions about yourself, your plans, what you could contribute to the training. Very relaxed atmosphere. I hope other hospitals would show that kind of attitude. My advice is just be yourself, appear confident. There was one being interviewed who was having diarrhea minutes before his interview. And also try to anticipate what they would probably ask, so be prepared for questions such as your interests, strengths and weaknesses, plans, etc. Hope this helps.

what do you guys think of this? is this a preliminary screening prior to inviting you to an interview or are they inviting you na?
"Our selection Committee has identified your application as interesting and I would like to see if you are interested in potentially visiting us sometime in January. We try to talk briefly with international applicants before arranging the interview, so is there a convenient time to get in touch with you. I see your address is in the Phillipines, and I couldn't tell if the phone number was in the US or not. I may try it."
Anong palagay ninyo?

salamat.

An invitation. Call them up immediately before they might try to offer them to other applicants. Time is running out, so make your travel plans by january.

doc jawo, tama ka. time is running out. yun isa lang ang interview ko so far. got 3 new rejection dahil puno na ang skeds kaya hindi na sila nag-eentertain ng applications. they are penn state u, duke u and wake forest u. so i have 7 rejections, 1 interview and 22 unknown so far. probably most of the 22 are also rejections because of default--lack of time and slots.
pag-inoffer ako ng prematch by this one and only, kukunin ko na. pero mahirap umasa, dapat magpasalamat ako na gusto pa kaong interviewhin. thank God, university naman ito.

pag may results na, mukhang mabilis. tama ako, have been getting rejections because hindi na sila tumitingin ng applications. so far my count is, 12 rejections, 2 interviews and 16 unknown. that's it for now. merry christmas to everyone.

Happy new year sa lahat. no new interview invitations for me but a couple of waiting list to have interview slots opened because of the late release of my scores. hope everyone is doing fine. Doc Jawo, maybe you have to reinvite some of our pinoy countrymen to be active in this list. happy new year again. good luck to all.:)

Surprise, surprise. I received another invitation from Brooklyn last Jan.3. I thought they don't send invitations anymore during January.:)

that is good. you have the flexibility since you are from there. as for me, since i am flying from rp, i have no choice but deem all the "waiting" for free interview slots as being rejected essentially since I can not plan my trip in the US because of the tremendous expense. see you there this week. good luck to all.

Johnnydlc, have you tried contacting all of the programs that you applied to? Ano specialty apply mo? Sayang, medyo late na itong advise ko, but you could have tried the areas at the Mid-Atlantic, such as NY/NJ or Pennsylvania, or even Illinois, where they are more IMG friendly, especially in IM. Southern and Central states, and especially West Coast are very tough.Punta ka pa dito Tate? May sked ka na?Wish you luck!

okay lang. kung di this year then next year. called all the program up and yun nga ang mga sagot. about 8 of them have still to review my application. so the lesson of the story is apply early talaga. thanks. good luck sa lahat.
